"Sorry Apple, I got tired of waiting and bought a DELL XPS instead."

If I had a nickel...
You could buy a Dell as well :)

Well just 13 more days to the rumoured launch of the new Macs...

I've waited for 6 months. So I'm going to wait for another 13 more days...
That's the situation i am on now. Saved up for few years now, and waiting an extra month is like pulling teeth, but hopefully worth it.

Ransomware on Linux, or MacOS?
Linux yeah, it's possible too, haha. FairWare for example. And for Mac there's the infected transmission client one. But I was referring to probably running windows on the dell.

I've been waiting about a year and a half... I got the first gen mid 2012 15" retina. Desiring a hardware redesign + the usual round of upgrades. tick tock.

Just saw an ad for Asus ROG - 15", 6700 i7 Quad Core, 8GB RAM, 1080p, and GTX 970. For $1500, I kid you not. And it's only 0.4 lb heavier than the MBP 15".

For the same price I'll have to settle with a mid-line MBP 13" with a i5 dual core and weak iGPU...

I agree they look tempting and I'm not for a minute disputing the current gen MBPs are too expensive. :)

However with the ASUS you don't get an SSD as standard. Granted, it's easily upgradable to a SATA SSD, but they won't touch the rMBP ones. You get a 1920x1080 matte screen. You have a clumsy selection of ports. 1xUSB 2 and 2xUSB 3?

The power adapter is an absolute brick. Battery life is appalling. Build quality and support isn't nearly as good.

Non-Apple laptops can look so tempting on paper. But when you go to use them, they never match the experience you thought you'd get. It's like when you're younger and get that Christmas present you begged your parents for, that had always been advertised on television. It's never quite what you thought it'd be.

MacRumors is not Apple so addressing a post to Apple here is kind of pointless.

Unless you install some form of Linux, the only OS available is WinDoze 10.

He could install Free BSD which is based on Unix and not Linux. I'm just saying.

Good luck with installing OS X. I've done it quite a few times now, but I can't get it on an XPS.

I really, really am afraid I'll end up doing the same. My last PC laptop was back in 2009 though when Windows 7 was coming out, and it lasted about a week before I returned it.

Yeah, it's not like I am actually Tim Cook using a fake internet account to see what my customers are saying about Apple.

It would be so ridiculous for me to do such a thing really.

Lol you waited so long and now that the updates are a few days away you give up. Some people kill me :D

You made the right choice. I hate when I see people caving and buying old Apple hardware; especially when they act like its punishing Apple. That just encourages them to not update.

Protect yourself from ransomware though.
Sound advice, as you should be running a solid antivirus application, and avoid sites that have been known to infect folks of malware.

Ransomware on Linux, or MacOS?
I believe ransomware is something specific to Windows at the moment, though there's nothing technological that is preventing someone from producing an app that could run on OS X or Linux.

i have had one virus on 1998 since then nothing (no virus, malware or so).
Agreed, same here. I have a good antivirus app, and as I inferred above in my post, I don't frequent sites that could possibly cause me issues with malware.
