OH MY GOD. My heart is finally beating again. I still think I'm dreaming. It never ends this way for the Sox; they are always the ones where the yankees are now.

I will be quite upfront - I did stop believing after game 3. I gave the Sox no shot to win this. The fact that they did, and did it by coming back out of a 3-0 hole, is simply incredible. I'm still in shock. This kind of thing just doesn't happen to the Red Sox, you know?

How the Mighty have Fallen.

I am not Heartbroken but i am very dissapointed and , extremely pissed at how bad the Yanks choked. George Steinbrenner is going to tear down the house that Ruth built.

But as a sports fan in general I am glad that the red sox did prove that you can't win without pitching. Just like the D-backs did.

I will make no excuses for the Yanks , they blew it big time. Heads are going to roll for this one.

Here is my hit list for the off season
#1 Derek Jeter ( freaken waste of money, wait till last 2 games just to hit the ball. I say he has run his course in NY , but may go very well in a smaller market where he can't party so much and be distracted) Trade him and another player for Johan Santana since i'm sure the Twins won't pay Johan all that money come contract time.

#2 Kevin Brown ( AssH*le #1 talk about a jerk off 1st busts his hand on a wall then does nothing the rest of the year).

#3 Javier Vasquez (this guy was supposed to be our new Ace and fill the hole Pettite made when he ran to Houston with Clemens , now we find out that he can't handle the pressure of playing in a Big City. granted i don't blame him for the grand slam tonight cuz Torry put him in that position.

But you just wait for our Revenge. the yanks have sunk lower than any team is pro sports history. next year u will see the Blood in thier eyes.

Off Season prospects , Carlos Beltran , Johan Santana , Randy Johnson, Alfanso Soriano , Pedro Martinez , Nomar , Sammy Sosa (cuz he needs to get out of Chicago bad).

George Stienbrenner is the Bill Gates of Pro Sports he will take you all to the bank and sign the whole AL & NL all-Star teams if he has to.

See you in the 05' ALCS

P.S. the curse is not over yet the NL will still win no matter if the yanks or Sox had faced them.

Pedro on the Yankees? BWA HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA
That would be like Clemens going back to Boston, NEVER!

the yanks have sunk lower than any team is pro sports history
Right, except, they didn't, you know, there's this team you may have heard of, the Diamondbacks. Yeah, them. They lost more games than the Yankees won... And don't get me started on the Expos!

Is Santana's contract up? Because the Twins will not trade him for anything if it isn't.
The Yanks have nothing to offer the D-backs for Johnson; we saw that during this season. Nothing has changed since then.
I don't think they want soriano back because he was not a good postseason performer and that is very important to the yanks.
I'm not sure the Yanks would be interested in Pedro, Nomar, or Sosa. All three of them seem to have injury problems and be slipping in ability.

BUT, I definitely agree that by Friday there will be a lot of pink slips around Yankee Stadium, and Brian Cashman will be on the phone to many many teams (unless he is fired). I can't wait to see mount steinbrenner erupt! He will sign whoever he can, but many of the best players are still under contract and can't be had for any price.

You are right that the "curse" is not about beating the yankees but winning the Series. And I also agree that both NL teams look very very good. But at this point, how can you count the Red Sox out? After what they have done, no one can say they don't have some chance!

Randy Johnson and Carlos Beltran are both free agents this winter , damn i still say we should have taken Bartolo Colon when we had the chance.

Im still pissed off over this and I will never get over this one. I hope the Sox lose big. Oh and next year Pedro will be a Yankee.

If by some reason that the depths of hell open and the Red Sox win the World Series and the curse ends, it is likely that a new battle will emerge as the Sox and Yanks will battle it out for rings each year. It is possible that the 2 powerhouses of baseball will be in the AL East.

I see you've changed your avatar. Congratulations!

EDIT: Uh, now it is dumb again, because it says Red Flops.

none of your suggestions will happen for the simple reason those contracts are too big and yanks have no prospects. no one will pick up jeter's $20 million a year contract unless they get like 5 low salary prospects because it will wreck pretty much anyone's payroll.

i'm afraid yanks are stuck with most of their players on their payroll. the only way out is for them to spend even more money. and guess what? if yanks want pedro, go ahead. if yanks want nomar, go ahead. they don't address any of yanks needs. heck, adding a-rod should now be considered a circus act - just to piss off boston. he added nothing to the team but to the payroll.

what yankees need is a young, high ceiling pitching prospects because right now, they are paying like $50 million for three mediocre former all-stars: loaiza, brown and vazquez. add in year-older mussina and their rich but non-effective starting rotation is complete. i can only see lieber being better next year since he's just coming back from surgery.

you heard it here first: either yankees will have a $250 million payroll next year or they will miss the playoffs.

Isn't that pretty much what he does every season? That is why everyone outside of NY loves to see the Yankees lose.

Wow... still hard to believe, red sox beat the yankees. I know we got a world series to play, but I can hardly wait till spring training !!!!

Man that was sweet! How about Johnny Damon redeeming himself and putting up two homers and six RBIs?

Derek Lowe pitching one-hit ball-

Seeing the look on Jeter's face at the end of the game-

Seeing the look on Cashman's face-

Watching Theo Epstein pour beers over the head of Larry Luchino?

Made my year!

I will admit i didn't give the sox a chance of coming back until game 4. I really am pleased to see they did it and made history. So many of my friends doubted me when i said " Dont count them out yet.." they just looked an laughed. The one thing the sox had going for them is they have some HEAVY hitters on that team. In myopinion they are the best hitting teamin baseball. I am quite happy to see the look on Jeter's , Arod, and Joe Torey's Faces when Boston CRUSHED them at home in game 7. All i have to say is I wouldn't want to be playing the red sox in the world series. :D

could this be the year...?

it's been 18 years since 1986 and 86 years since 1918...

Enjoy your World Series appearance now because with all of your free agents going next year this is your only shot for a long time.

I wanna see Clemens rock the house at Fenway Park. :p

that's far better than having so many players locked up to untradable monster contracts that you know the only way you can improve is by spending even more money to get more heartless mercinaries.

clemens won't pitch at fenway. assuming astros make it, he'll pitch against pedro in game 3.

I agree that the Yankees contracts are too high, but if the players were good it wouldn't matter how much they are getting paid. Jeter wont be going anywhere because he is a fan favorite so he stays, Giambi is a question mark with his health, Gordon is a joke, Brown is just a fool. The bottom line is that the Yankees need pitching, better yet they need a lefty.

The big questions are, How many good years does Pedro have left, can he become a reliever, Is lowe any good anymore. How many free agents do the Red Sox keep and whoever they let go could come back and bite them next year.

here's how much yanks got tied up (not including option years):

jeter: $19 mil, until 2010
mussina: $16 mil, until 2006
brown: $15 mil, until 2005
a-rod: $14 mil, until 2010
giambi: $14 mil, until 2008
bernie: $12 mil, until 2005
vazquez: $10.5 mil, until 2007
posada: $9 mil, until 2006
contreras (yes, contreras): $9 mil, until 2006
sheff: $8.5 mil, until 2006
rivera: $8.89 mil, until 2007
matsui: $7 mil, until 2005
karsay: $6 mil, until 2005
lofton: $2.1 mil, until 2005

by the way, above totals to over $150 million... 8 position players, 3 starters, 2 relievers and one no longer with the team. and, except for perhaps matsui and vazquez, none of them are likely to get much better because either they are still (relatively) young but their numbers have flattened the last few years (jeter, a-rod) or they are quite old and will likely see declines (everone else).

no team will take any of these contracts, except matsui's, without significant portion of them being picked up by yankees.

red sox are paying wakefield, timlin and embree combined about the same amount yankees are paying contreras. geez, that sounds like wasted money to me.

guess what? for all the years yanks got away with talking trash just because they won, this winter is time for them to listen. because to be brutally honest, yankees dynasty days are over - their bubble just bursted and they really, really need to do something creative to get out of the hole they are in.

because of the way this season played out, sox got it fairly easy to figure out who to sign, who to let go. they signed ortiz during the season - for like $6 mil a year for next two years... if that's not a bargain, i don't know what is. they will resign varitek. probably cabrera. then pedro will have to lower his asking price or the management would be happy to let him go. nomar was traded so he's a non-issue. playoff heroics aside, lowe played himself out of a large contract this year so he'll go if he asks for a lot.

I like the Red Sox' look a lot better next year than the Yankees. If you read this "second guessing" page on ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=second/guessing
You'll see them explain why the outlook is not so great for new york. Now, I think they go overboard because this years team did win 101 games, and if even if they are a little worse, they would still make the playoffs easily.

But here's the Yankee's problem: all of their players make a fortune and yet are either getting old or declining in skills. Who would take Jeter, A-rod, Bernie, Giambi, Brown, or Vasquez in a trade? Very very few other teams can afford to pay 17 million to a position player, especially one whose best days seem behind him. They have nothing to trade, either prospects or major leaguers. That means that if they want Beltran and Johnson and whoever else (some lefties? a first baseman?) they will have to sign free agents. Even George has to have a limit, right? Especially with the new taxes. Is he really going to have a $250 million dollar payroll?

Sox on the other hand are in danger of losing: Pedro, Lowe, 'Tek, Cabrera. Am I missing anyone? Well, sad as it is to say, Pedro is badly in decline. The one bad part of game 7 was when pedro came in, and I knew, before he threw one pitch, that it was a terrible mistake. So if he comes back, great, but if not... well, he's not really an ace most of the time anymore, is he? Lowe was dazzling last night, but let's not forget he was bumped from the playoff starting rotation to begin with. He can be great, but he's very inconsistent. Varitek the Sox must resign - but he likes it here and I think he will. Cabrera is good but hardly amazing. He'd like to stay, and I think he will. I don't see the Sox in trouble at all next year. We may need a few starters, but with Pedro's salary freed up, that will be easy enough (he's still the highest paid pitcher in baseball). And they'll still have Shilling, Wake, and Arroyo for sure.

You shouldn't count on that happening. The Red Sox are back. Just look at how well the Patriots have done.
