If fingerprints matter that much wear gloves. I have the midnight Air and it’s fantastic looking. I have never looked for fingerprints but I am sure they are there. I also don’t look for fingerprints on my black water bottle or my black hammer.

They seem really committed to the design idea of having a black Apple logo on the darker Macs and iPhones. I wonder if that's part of what's driving the color choices.

I miss the old iPhones with an actual black back and a silver Apple logo, those looked great.
I am still waiting for the the iphone 4 colors compilation. Silver sides, pure black back and silver logo.

the wallpaper reminds me of my childhood drawings, the good ones. This painting was the lost origin of the M3 MBP wallpaper called Life of M3. Very complex and amazing drawing.

Apple must have looked at this from someone's Resume and said, "You're hired!". Tim was so stunned that he wanted a copy of this cutting-edge piece of artwork. Just the best piece of work for Apple to turn into a wallpaper. /s
You're being promoted chief designer, congrats !

Why couldn't they give us a Space Black iMac?

They did. It was called the iMac Pro. 2017 called and wanted their color back. IF we ever get an AS iMac Pro it will be this color too (or close enough to it)

Space Grey remains the most elegant, professional, non-industrial, and, dare I say it, space age color.

Silver is industrial-looking and outdated, matching the original manila envelope MBA.

Just goes to show how idiosyncratic color preferences are.

As the Romans used to say:

De gustibus non est disputandum.

The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models announced on Monday are available in a new Space Black finish when configured with M3 Pro or M3 Max chips. Notably, Apple says this finish features an "anodization seal" to "greatly reduce fingerprints."

Apple already made the MacBook Air available in a darker Midnight finish, and it is considered by many to be a fingerprint magnet. Based on hands-on videos of the new MacBook Pro models shared following Apple's event, the new anti-fingerprint seal does appear to be an improvement compared to the MacBook Air, but more testing is needed.

In the hands-on video below, The Verge's Dan Seifert said "I got like 30 seconds to touch the new Space Black model, and yeah, I guess there are fewer fingerprints on it, but we'll really have to see how it holds up in the real world."

Six Colors editor-in-chief Jason Snell said the Space Black finish is "generally more resistant to fingerprints," but he said some fingerprints are still to be expected. He also said Space Black is more like a "dark gray" instead of actual black:Another hands-on video from Brian Tong:

MobileSyrup's Patrick O'Rourke said "I have very greasy fingers and spent several minutes in the hands-on area trying to smudge the 'Space Black' colour — I couldn't."

Gizmodo's Kyle Barr said "I did have the chance to put my grubby hands on the newest M3-powered MacBook Pros, and while I didn't see many leftover smears on the surface, it didn't take long for Apple staff to swoop in with microfiber cloth in hand to remove any wayward stains," so testing will be needed outside of a controlled environment.

Still looks clunky and heavy like my MacBook Pro from 2005, hard to believe this is the design for 2023/24. Also, why did Apple create such a fingerprint-magnet surface in the first place? Surely they would have done lots of tests beforehand? I've seen the new MacBooks in a store and they are all filthy with smudges, etc. Apple's design decisions really baffle me sometimes.

The fingerprint magnet is a feature what most people dont understand. It gives the Apple Cloth a reason of existence.

but see, even if it's not BlackBook-style black, reading that comparison to the original iPhone 5 black colorway got me pretty excited. we all know that the colorway evolution from the 5 to the 5s was one of the most disappointing aesthetic decisions in iPhone's history (throw a million comments at me about the notch/Dynamic Island, I really don't care) and bringing some of that richness back in the form of an M-series MBP is nice to see.

still happy with my silver M2 Pro; confident I'll have it for a long while. thankfully I work next to an Apple Store and can ogle these pretty easily when they come out!

I don't understand the constant knocks on the Touch Bar by these influencers. Is it just a case of "that's weird, so we don't like it!"?
moreso a case of "damn, this is useless and gimmicky compared to a row of function keys" 😂

What are you talking about? Giant leaps in performance. Why is that meh?
It’s so meh I got the 40 core Max. I can’t wait to enjoy the “mediocrity” that is the new chip. Coming from the GOATed 2015, I’m sure the overall feeling of meh and disappointment is inevitable but I’ll just hang in there.

The color looks great, but I’m uninterested / have no need for a new MBP. I switched over to iPad Pro back in 2018, now on an M1 12.9”, and love it for its versatility and performance when traveling for work and its ability to be a great consumption device after hours at home. I also have to use a Surface laptop at work (which I refuse to travel with) so as much as it would be great to have a powerhouse like the 16” M3 Max MBP, I just don’t need it. I’d like to see a 15” iPad Pro, but I’d be fine with the same size if they could bump up the battery life to something close to 15 hours. It’s the one thing that I think needs improvement.
Yes, that’s why I dumped iPad Pro 12.9 with M1 chip. The battery endurance is the worst out of any  mobile devices. I work all the time. I don’t like looking at battery level.

not a fan of the black colour, don't care what the've put on it, it will be a finger print magnet, just like the midnight

Why do all these guys describe themselves as having dirty/grubby/oily hands? Just for effect given the article?

They got titchy because the escape key on the original wasn't a moving key....I kid you not 🤣
