I see your point. But for me, I own multiple Apple Watches and the plastic box is really nice to have for traveling and protecting the Watch when not in use. Ironically, these plastic boxes sell for a minimun of $20.00 on eBay in the past. The one thing I like about them, is they're very well made and I also converted one into a Charging dock.
Yeah people dig their Apple stuff lol. Even iPhone cardboard boxes sell pretty decently (or used to back when I sold stuff semi often haha).

There was a similar complaint about EarPods cases (not saying it’s the same thing but some folks were upset), though that’s one of those things that everyone with an iPhone probably has a few dozen of lol.

Personally I’m more bummed about the shortened cord, though I don’t buy stainless steel inless it’s at a steal (last year I upgraded my wife since Best Buy had them for something like $250 and was able to sell her aluminum watch for slightly less). It even had the original firmware on it so that had been sitting for the whole year!

I agree it’s a nice case but I can also very much get behind the end result of less waste overall. Now if they could just sell watches without straps pre packaged in I’d be set.

Does the charging cable for the SS models still have the metal backing or plastic like the sport models?

I saw a comparison video where it mentions the SS models still have the metal backed charging cable, and the Edition models still come with the charging dock.

I can confirm that it does still have the metal backing. That was a nice little surprise when unboxing, compared to my wife’s aluminum watch charger that was plastic on both ends. I didn’t rub it in (too much).

So what are y’all seeing for shipping times for the space black? I just ordered and it says 4-5 weeks, really hope it’s no where near that long. I’m excited about getting this one, my S2 aluminum is the gold one and nothing matches it lol especially for a guy.

I liked the watch boxes on the earlier models - as a watch collector we value a complete set of watch, box, and papers when we want to buy a nice Swiss chronometer.

Apple received praise for stepping up the presentation when the watch first came out, and now they're dumbing it down with cardboard boxes and plastic chargers, but I understand their reasoning. They want to be environmentally conscious.

Major Swiss brands have been switching to wooden presentation boxes which are valued by their customers, but I suspect that only a small number of Apple watch owners care about the presentation box. I would guess that many Apple Watch owners tossed the packaging after they knew they wouldn't be returning the watch in the 14 day trial period, and these took up space in landfills. I doubt they are biodegradable plastics.

I'd still like one, and I'd be happy if it were made of wood.

I thought I recognized that Avatar, I’ve seen you over at WUS.

I agree, a nice watch box represents the quality of the watch before you even open it. There’s something nice packaging does to add to the excitement before you even open the box to get to what you bought to begin with. I’m also one that keeps the boxes.

My wife thinks I'm crazy, taking up a whole shelf in a closet with 60 or more watch boxes.

I like the idea of a wooden box. And I didn't know that Swiss was eventually converting over to wooden boxes either. I know Apple is very environmentally conscious as they have always have been. But if they're so environmentally conscious, I'm not sure why they even decided to make the plastic boxes to begin with, when they know exactly where they could have ended up. I simply think they eliminated the plastic boxes for the sake of cost-cutting.

I do think when they launched the Apple Watch in the beginning, they wanted to set a trend and give the Apple Watch a fashion statement along with fitness. And in doing so, as the Apple Watch has grown, it seems that it still is a very trendy watch to wear, but it's focused more heavily now on the fitness side of things.

You

You own 60 watches ??? ✊ I’ve got one Apple Watch with 7 bands and still have a problem choosing which combination to wear for the day.

This is just part of my collection, not counting the ones that are insignificant, or on my wrist at the time of the shot... This is 48 of them, and I have another 10 decent ones not there, and another 10 that are crap...

Nothing wrong with that collection. And that's the thing about mechanical watches, they can hold value and have a much longer life span over a piece of technology that will become dated in less than two years. And those watches likely can be passed down to another family member or what have you.

That's the plan, to pass them down to my son and daughters and wife. My son likes them all, whether it's the Omega and Rolex watches, or my Hamilton and Victorinox and Luminox low end Swiss, or my Seiko and Citizen watches.

I told him that he'll have to share when I pass away, and we sat down and decided which ones we'd like to stay in the family most, and then they'd sell the rest and divide that up amongst the ones who got fewer watches. The firearms are in an LLC or a Trust that they can manage when I'm gone.

+1 that upgraded from the S0 to the S3. Can't call my buddy an "Apple Lemming" anymore, as I jumped on this even though my carrier likely won't support eSIM provisioning until the new year. :) I only managed a day of willpower after seeing they were in stock at my local Apple store. Ah well.

Band is red RAF NATO from CWS.

The problem is, if smartwatches become somewhat necessary over the next decade, there will be too much wrist real estate competition, and interest in mechanical watches will wane considerably.

I have both a nice ebony/gold cane and gold pocketwatch left to me from my great grandfather. I'm sure the current value is not what he expected them to be. I've personally sold off all of my mechanical watches, outside of a single Omega, and I'm sure my son's interest in it will be tepid when I pass in (hopefully) 50 years.

Nice combination. But the Watch really looks tight on your wrist. Unless you have really big wrists in general .

I had to return my SB SS today because the sports band was peeling. They don’t exchange the band for whatever reason. I had to exchange the whole unit.
Now I have to wait until mid-November for my replacement order. I’m very annoyed.
If the bands didn’t cost 59€, I would have just gotten a new band.

Really?! I can't imagine an Apple Store Manager being that unreasonable (that's certainly who you should have escalated this to, given that choice).
You could also have bought the band (the same one separately) and then returned it (the flawed one). As much as I dislike deceit, if their policies are so ridiculous, then you're still effectively doing the right thing.

But, you've already returned the watch. :(

I thought about buying a sports bands and doing that. But I don't know whether there is a serial number on this things as well. It was an Online purchase with pickup in store. And both, Online After Sales and the store manager told me I had to return the whole unit.

Oh well, what can you do. At least I did enjoy the Space Black SS watch for ten days. :)

Big company syndrome.

How did you do the return?

Because if you initiated an exchange rather than a return (you can do this online), your new one would be expedited and ship out in a couple of days.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know about that and the woman on the telephone didn’t mention this. I returned it to the local Apple store. For a refund.

I called after sales again though after I read your comment. They’ll expedit my new order and put it at the top of the line. Thanks for the info :)
