Simple Thing :

With Silver SS you can buff or polish out any scratches with yourself or at an shop, While Space Black SS you cant buff it or polish it out.

I Personally Like Space black SS and been it for past 4 years. Used Gen 0 Space Black SS and now using Gen 2 SpacE Black SS

I Wear it all the time going over seas and cruise trips, And Still no scratches on it.

3. But one of the biggest reasons I decided to go SB was that with the original through Series 3, the screen and case size showed off the Silver. With the size of the S4 screen, I feel that the case is reduced and the SB actually benefits from the case/screen edge seamless blend and the Silver case won't look as good because it is reduced. The case is barely higher than the crown on the sid
I appreciate your reasoning here. From
my experience having worn both the SB and SS S4s for a few weeks, is that because the screen blends into the SB case so well, it actually looks like a larger watch, especially in thickness from the profile view. I was all in on SB but now I feel like the SS really makes the watch pop.

My biggest fear has been that one solid ding that gets through the DLC and leaves my SB with a silver scar. I know the SS will scratch (and will be a true test of my OCD), but those 100 scratches I hope will be less noticibke than that one bad scratch to the SB.

That’s the first I’ve heard of this. Does the SB shine less over time? Have others experienced this?

No. It might show fingerprints, similar to how the space gray bands do with the iPhone XS. But as a space black watch owner, there are no issues with discoloration over time. Especially with the DLC coating and protection.

I’ve posted this in a few threads discussing the longevity of the SB DLC:

That is a video of my day-1 S0 SB Watch taken a couple of weeks ago before I traded it back to Apple. It’s really hard to see the details on the Watch but as the sunlight runs down the sides you can see it is still functionally perfect and shiny even after daily wear for three years.

Thanks for this. Goods good. I’m still undecided about black or silver. Black is just edging it (at the moment!). I have more bands that’d match black.

I have had both SS and SSSB and much as I love the bling of the SS, I prefer the SB. I don't have to worry about scratched, its goes really well with far more bands than you would think and like the phone, the screen seems to blend in to the case and looks like one solid object

What about silver bands? What does it look like with those?

Couldn’t agree more!

It’s weird, when I had the gold SS I really wanted the black. I would refresh iStockNow multiple times every hour.

Now that i have the black, I miss the gold SS. Go figure! I guess the grass is always greener...

But when u find a nice band for space black it screams.
Ceramic black and gold found it on Amazon.
Leaning towards the SS gold

This is one of the reasons I went with the silver SS, because I like the contrast of the silver with the black screen. Without an Always On display, the screen is usually blank/black, so the SBSS seems too monotone to me.

OMG I'm having the same thoughts. Seeing the "Ironman" watch got me thinking about it again. Well for me it will all be decided within 8 days (what's left of my return window).

Black. Final decision (I think!?)

Space black for me. I don’t like scratches and I don’t want to see them. And I think the space black is that one Apple Watch thay really does provide ‘all around’ protection with the DLC and sapphire display. And I can match almost any band I want with it, because I like the contrast personally.

Exactly why I got SBSS.. too bad i already scratched it in multiple places. But i guess its inevitable at the gym. Will just wait 6 months and use AC+ to get another as a refresh

Something that I’ve learned during the trial period of the last three weeks is that skin tone also matters. For example, I’ve seen the silver stainless steel looking great on many people, along with all colors of bands. But as I’ve been trying it over the last few days, I don’t think it looks as good on me with my olive/tan skin as it does on other people. It’s like it’s a clash between the cool of the silver and the warmth of my skin tone. The same is true for a lot of the nicer looking bands that go with the sterling silver (blues for example) don’t complement my skin color. Black goes with just about everyone’s tone, so the SS SB works for me. Ahh - but the gold, even though I passed on it the first time, I’m now aware of how well gold goes with my skin tone. So for me I’m now between the black and gold.

The ‘grass is always greener’ comment is so true. It reminds me of buying a new car, when, in the decision making process, you chose your model of car, then narrow your choice down to 2 or 3 colours...you opt for your ‘favourite’ colour when you make the purchase, love the color of the car when you collect it, but then spend the next couple of years seeing the same model of car on the road, in the colors that you did not order & think ‘my car looks really nice in that color, maybe I should have bought the car in that color’

At least with Apple Watch, there are only 3 colors to chose from & they all look amazing, so you cannot really make a wrong decision

I just know that series 4 stainless steel has a DLC on only black. I’d avoid any colour in stainless steel though, personally, and go with aluminum. It’s lighter, cheaper, and it’s IonX display will only be as many more times prone to scratching as the stainless steel’s sapphire crystal display is to shattering. I’d rather a few scratches than a sleeve full of broken sapphire crystal any day of the week. Plus it’s lighter and way cheaper! Woohoo!

SS in black is beautiful. If you get it I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. But don’t feel like you’re cheating yourself to save the money and get the aluminum because it’s also beautiful and with a few pros unique to it as well

I don’t want to regret my choice any more than I want you to regret yours. Carefully consider what I told you about the bending vs breaking between the ion x and ss. It’s worth noting.

i had the space grey s0 since day 1, and i didn't have any scratches on the case, and the faintest scratch on the ion X that could only be seen under intense light. im not worried about shattering the sapphire glass because i take very good care of my things. i do swim a lot, and when im sharing an end lane with multiple people, i worry about scratching my watch against the pool. so having the DLC coating and sapphire glass makes sense to me.

plus, there's something to be said about exclusivity. people may deny it, but people like to show off their nice things. a shiny watch is one of those things. im not immune to it. now that im out of school and can afford it, i decided to splurge. there are very few things you will wear on a daily basis, so why not treat yourself if you can?

i dunno, i would rather have a shattered screen as at least it can be repaired/replaced via applecare. You can't repair ugly scratches. Watch faces should never be prone to scratches full stop.

Just back home after successfully reserving a SB SS in Apple Store. All set up and ready to go. So, next question; Apple Care Plus for Watch. Worth it? Anyone taken it up?

It's roughly 10% of your investment. Which honestly, in percentages, is ridiculous.. but you gotta remember that you can use it multiple times to get your moneys worth.
