I've had my SBSS for almost a month. I've showered, scrubbed, had it hit the floor, bumped walls and my dog has even had his teeth on it. So far it still looks smooth as glass (although I am careful). It's my first SB watch so I did get AppleCare just in case.

Also, to the person who said you can't use AppleCare for scratches, etc., I have done just that in the past. You get two "no questions asked" replacements with the Apple Watch plan, for a small fee. Apple also tends to lean your way if you have problems with any of your bands. They've replaced a Leather Loop and a Mlanese Loop for me already. I like having it myself.

I've never had any scratches on my SS black glass or case from version 2, and I hit a lot of things with it. Just traded in my old watch for the 4th generation watch and got the full trade in value.

Smart. With watches I would always recommend getting AppleCare. It is a wearable with a high risk potential for damage.

I've owned the SB with matching link bracelet and while it looks amazing, it is possible to scratch it (both watch and band). Once either is scratched, you just have to live with it. That also reduces the resell value.

Now, I switched to the regular stainless steel AW4 with the link bracelet. While the shiny finish is definitely a scratch magnet, it is super easy to polish it and restore it to brand new condition.

Also, the same is true with stainless steel link bracelet. Simply use one of the refinishing pads like below and it's brand new!

So for me, it's regular SS with no coatings :)

The scratches don’t reduce the resale value with the space black or stainless Apple Watch, because the watch is already used as it is. It’s just less appealing to want to see that on a black product like the space black Apple Watch. As a space black watch owner for almost every generation Apple Watch, I have never had a scratch on the watch black casing, even though it can scratch as you mentioned, albeit, very difficult to do with the DLC coating.

Sorry, but this contradiction cracked me up.....

That’s okay. I noticed the contradiction as I wrote that. But believe it or not it was honest. I’m above average active and my hands seem to be always doing something. I install flooring and have a 1-1/2 YO Golden Doodle pup who finds my watch hand very interesting lol. But I’ve been (predictably) more careful since purchasing my new $800 Apple Watch at the same time. “Careful” might be a poor word choice tho. Perhaps I should have said “apprehensive”.

Thus the Applecare!

I thought that some who related their concerns for the durability of th SB coating might benefit from my experience.
