I read that yesterday. I have had mixed reactions so far. I used it for the first time working out today and my wrist tattoo didn't seem to interfere with Apple Watch getting my heartbeat. In fact, it hasn't had any problems getting my heartbeat since getting it.
I have had multiple times while wearing it where it will ask me to unlock the device although it wasn't removed. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened at least 3 or 4 times and it is slightly annoying. I can't tel if this is common with others that dont have tattoos or if it the tattoo that is causing it. I thought about just taking off the pin so i dont have to worry about it. I will give it another couple days.
Some quick thoughts to anyone interested:
The Apple Watch Sport Space Gray is gorgeous and does not look poorly made like some rare people have said on the net. It is crazy how high quality it looks and feels, but then again this is Apple and I expected nothing less. I went back and forth both before and after my pre order on if I should have ordered the other silver with white band Apple Watch Sport. I still, think it is such a great looking device, but I went with Space Gray to match my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2. The funny thing is its not really the same shade of space gray. In fact, it looks just like the iPhone 5 as it is almost black. I'm a fan of it as I missed the black iPhone 5 and the space gray in my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 is almost too light. We will see how this holds up to scratches as the new space gray in the 6 seems to be less susceptible towards scratches, but at the end of the day I'm not too worried about it.
One thing I do worry about now that I have it is hitting it against something. I never use display protectors for any of the iProducts, but I am considering ordering me a set of them from Spigen. I feel almost like I did with my iPhone 4 and 4s as it seems really fragile like if I hit it against something it is done for.
Watch OS is to be expected for a 1.0 release from Apple. It is smooth, fast, and very nice to use, but does have a couple small bugs. 3rd party apps work a lot better than most of the early reviews from the gadget blogs. Instagram is actually pretty cool, ESPN is great for scores, Evernote and Clear are great for notes, and Twitter and Twitterific are as advertised. I don't know how much I will use them a week from now, but they are nice to have for quick glances.
My favorite feature by far is being able to control music that is on my iPhone from my watch. I have a new pair of Beats Solo 2 Wireless and it is awesome to have my iPhone 6 sitting on the counter or even in the other room and being able to have access to all my music. One thing I wondered is will it work with iTunes Match and I'm happy to report that it does.
The health tracking stuff is excellent. I ran on the treadmill for a couple miles today and it was right on when it comes to calories burned, distance, and time. I was actually surprised by how close it was to the one on the treadmill. Way convenient to have this all on your wrist.
The hardware is as to be expected which like I said above it is excellent. One thing that I dont know how I feel about is the display. It is way nice and definitely retina quality. I am not a huge fan of AMOLED displays, but I totally understand why Apple went this route when wanting to save battery and the blacks are truly black which makes the display pop, but the colors are way oversaturated. Most will probably not care, but I do prefer traditional high quality LCD displays that Apple uses on all their other products. I hope they stick to LCD in the future for other products and it is not like I will be using my watch to look at any of my DSLR photos or anything so I am not too worried about it. I just thought I would mention it as almost every review Ive read praises the AMOLED display on the Apple Watch.
Battery life has been better than expected. I got it yesterday and fully charged it. Ive had it off the charged since about 6:00pm last night so close to 24 hours and have about 8% battery life left. This is with a lot of usage and a good two hour workout. So no real need to worry about battery life on this thing.
Sorry so long I will leave you with my final thought. As much as I love this thing I do find myself wishing I had sprung for the stainless steel Apple Watch. The more and more I see it the more I love it. I do worry that most bands will not look great with the space gray, but I do find myself loving the black band more than the others. I do hope Apple releases a product red band as that would look great on the space gray Apple Watch Sport. Let me know if you all have any other questions. Good luck with your orders.
