I chose space gray just to have something different from the last ten years. Didn't bother to check the silver version but I'm sure it's just as nice.

Without my own personal history, coming from an almost ten year old BMP, I think I would have taken silver...

In other words, just take what you like!

__

Space gray is no where near dark or black, just darker aluminum... Best check for yourself.

Considering that the macbooks in space grey are sort of affordable and has released two years ago, and the new macbook pros in space grey are relatively new but mostly preferred over the silver models, I'd say if you are buying the space grey ones to stand out, your macbook is not going to stand out in 4 to 5 years when space grey has gone so trendy. But then again, in that time you might be looking to upgrade your half decade old laptop. So even though I know some people say it all comes down to preference, the answer really is that. Preference, haha. Space grey shows oils much more just because it is darker. Why do you think white paper, white boards, a white screen, they hardly show oils (which your hand shows a lot of). White is clean and "timeless" it's like a blank canvas where you do all your paintings. That's why the macbook pro I am ordering is going to be silver or "white" because silver is closer to white. Doesn't show the white scratches as easy as grey and doesn't show smudge as much. But I have to admit.... Space grey looks clean and blends in with the black bezels, touchbar, and keys. Especially when you are in a dark room, space grey is just like someone took parts off a satellite and made a laptop out of it. Space Grey is not a bright, blank silver color, but it's a professional color that's clean when smudges are not on it. Either way, why be choosy about the color if you contemplate on putting a skin on it. Or even worse - a hardshell case that defeats the whole purpose of apple trying to slim things down. Don't get a color because you want to be different. Get a color you're going to love for years until you can upgrade. Either way, you won't be disappointed with any of these new Macbooks because they're just so slim and clean.

I agree, is all personal preference. However here are my observations :

1. space grey shows scratches more
2. space grey looks good on timber surfaces but awful on black
3. 13" best in silver, 15" space grey [just my aesthetic judgement - and am qualified to give it]
4. silver more traditional and elegant, Space grey more slick.
5. space grey changes colour depending on the light. can look purple in some, but looks great in natural light.

Both are very beautiful, but I have to say that I don't notice any difference in the amount of smudges between my new Space Gray and old Silver MBP. If anything, I can see them more clearly on the silver one.

However, I love both colors. My advice to anyone with this dilemma is: pick one based on your first impulse and don't look back :)

Bought a Space Gray 13'' tbMBP in December and after 5-6 months I started missing the silver colour of my previous Macbooks .. The Space Gray colour is truly stunning but like others have said it gets dirty easily .. It's the same with a black painted car I guess .. It looks amazing when you take it from the car-wash but it only stays that way for a day .. Then it kind of looks dirty .. The silver colour just "hides" dust better and looks clean unless it gets really dirty ..

I am not going to replace it or anything but at the same time I felt that I should share this with others since I'm guessing that a lot of people may opt for the Space Gray colour in the future because they want something different from the "same old" silver .. If you do, just make sure you keep this in mind ..

Anyone else who feels the same ??

I bought a 15" yesterday since Adorama had an extra $75 discount for the silver so that is what I chose.
$2099 for the Silver while $2174 for the space grey made it a no brainer!

I have space grey i9 starting to think it doesnt stand up like the keys dont pop and its to dark do i change for silver?!? Its hard cos the apple store lighting is very diff to my room

From my brief experience with the space gray models i concluded that they show more sweat stains that come off your palms.

I also think that the color coating would scratch easier. Showing the silver color underneath.

I like the original aluminum silver models because of that.

A space grey MacBook looks like a normal MacBook which has become depressed

I think both are really great which makes it so difficult to decide. For a change space grey seems like a good option.

I agree. I've had both, and did not notice the space gray finish degrading at all.

I have a preference for the silver, because I personally think it looks nicer, but I have to say I think Apple did a great job with the space gray.

Space grey is a change from previous models for sure but silver is a change from the sea of space grey laptops I see at coffee shops now in the new 2016 onward design :D

Silver for me. Sg looks really good but silver seems to hold up to wear and tear much better than sg counterparts. Dings and nicks aren't as noticeable and I've heard of people w/ sg models developing 'patina' but silver is impervious to that kind of issue.
