I do not think that is what he had in mind, must not have read the post.
I know this thread quickly became a name throwing contest, but at least Genelec 8331 was actually used in Apple's keynote when they showed that set-built "house", lol. They even had what looks like a pair of 8341 or 8351 mounted on the ceiling in front, while the near fields including the center is the smaller 8331, which is hilariously unrealistic.

cool i didn't notice that. there is a pic of steve jobs in his home office with some genelecs.

edit: actually i do remember this, i thought it was funny how they had the two monitors in front of the center lol

Studio Display and AirPods Max, though I am curious how many people use standalone speakers and what type.
I use studio monitors: Focal Shape 65. I'd only recommend them for music production, though they are also great just for listening.

Depending on OP's budget, I think the Homepod Minis and Audioengine stuff are the best suggestions. Love me that D3020 too, though I assume OP wants a simpler setup.

Judging by the screens this set is meant to simulate a 3D surround mixing setup, typically with Dolby Atmos you wouldn't place the front ceiling LR off the sides, this looks more like Auro 3D.

Then that center near field is placed behind the dual VESA display arm lol. The saving grace is that the Genelec is coaxial, so at least the guy still has direct line of sight to the center tweeter.

Also I don't know why the larger 8351s are on the ceiling while the floor standing ones seem like 8331s, typically you either have all of them the exact same size, or you have the front 3 being the bigger ones while the surrounds one step smaller.

Lastly, there is no LFE in sight. Even if you don't need the bass extension, these DSP speakers need a central XLR switch board which usually you just use Genelec's 7xxx subwoofers.

But let's not be too hard on them, at least they didn't have the balls to put HomePod minis in stereo there.

Could I link the HomePod mini’s together?

That would be great if possible and probably the best $200 option out there.
Yes you can. I haven't heard them personally but they look like a pretty sensible option. Guessing you could probably do better in terms of pure sound quality, maybe Audioengine, ELAC, Klipsch, but for convenience and integration it's easy to imagine that the Homepods would be tough to beat.

there's also the "acoustic" foam which is next to useless for recording but serves as a recognizable visual cue for the layperson... and the reflexion filter in addition to that

it definitely isn't sufficient for pro audio, which is what the ad is trying to ape
That sort of (cheap and thin) padding seems only found in dubbing rooms for commercials and audio books. A proper room for instruments would want natural reverbs, or if specific walls or corners need correction then there are fibreglass absorbers, or bass traps, or QRD diffusers.

Come to think of it, actually I am more offended by those two floor-to-ceiling pieces of glass... are they looking for extra resonance or reflections lol.

I'm leaning toward buying another JBL Charge and hooking it up. The one I have sounds very good on the Imac.

May not fit your situation, but I've been pleased with the quality of the speakers in the Studio Display.

For sound better than any built-in monitor or TV speakers, and still at a reasonable price, this Creative Stage V2 2.1 Soundbar w/Subwoofer is what I used until this weekend. No complaints at all, it's $20 more now than when I bought it but still worth it.

Since I was still in the upgrade mood, this week I replaced the soundbar with Vanatoo Transparent Zeros. They are fairly awesome on their own, but I splurged and added a Rel Acoustics Tzero MKIII Subwoofer as well. I'm happy, wallet definitely is NOT.
