I have my trusty Monsoon iM-700 planar magnetic speakers that I bought in 1999. They still sound amazing.

Anything that takes 3.5mm input is fine, why complicate things? I use Audioengine A2 with my MBP.

Thanks for this recommendation, have just got a pair for my Mac Studio after it turned out the Soundsticks I bought were used and damaged.

I've been using HomePods with my desk setup but they're so unreliable for streaming music from the Music app and have become increasingly flaky in recent times I've decided to ditch them for something that's plugged-in with a cable and will work every time without having to do anything.

Very impressed with the sound - obviously they lack the bassy punch of the big HomePods, but the sound when playing music is very clear across the whole range. Very impressed.

I will use what I have now, the Logitech Z625 THX 2.1 system...

Unfortunately I will have to forgo the optical input & slum it with the 3.5mm jack, thanks Apple...! ;^p

Pretty unbelievable they dropped optical on the Mac mini and didn't bring it back for the studio.
I guess everyone is using usb audio interfaces nowadays though. There are some great ones for cheap. But that bit of flexibility is nice.

Studio Needs More Ports
At least a third USB-A

Not unbelievable at all- no Mac since 2016, I think, has it. Go to HDMI, buy a adaptor/dock, or do without, says Apple…Though I've not got an AS Mac yet, I've already got an adaptor so I can keep on using my Logitech Z906 set.

I found the speaker reviews and forum at Audio Science Review to be very helpful.

If you can hold out, save some money and invest your funds in some quality gear, I think you'll be happy you did.

The Audioengine systems sound good and aren't terribly expensive.

If you can save enough to grab a pair of Neumann's, or Genelec's, you'll be in musical heaven.

Good luck!

I went with Kanto Tuks, which is more than enough power for an apartment. It does take up a lot of space, more than HomePods, but the sound quality is top notch. It’s a three year old design now so I hope they don’t introduce a new model right after I got these lol

These are arguably the best compact desktop speakers in the sub-$500 price range.

I’d have a hard time living with speakers that have “iLoud” printed on the sides. Maybe I could paint them? 😂

Does anyone have one of these Logitech systems? And what do you think if you do?

I've been using the Z623s for quite some time now and they seem to work well enough. Having separate 3.5mm jacks for headphones and a microphone can, I suppose, be slightly annoying if you've got headphones with a built-in microphone as well but that's something that can be dealt with rather cheaply so I don't think it's that big of an issue.

edit: oh wait, I didn't realize that your post was from over a year ago. oops.

I’m using Yamaha HS5 studio speakers connected to a Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen audio interface.

The kefs are on sale on Amazon 29% off for anyone interested in the states. Lowest price in 30 days in all color ways

I bought the KEFs LSXII recently and they are light years ahead of the built in speaker in the Mac Studio. Highly recommended.
