The iPhone 7 is going to be a truly incredible device. I'm so excited!!!
Hello Tim.

This is a faked image... that's now clear.

I'm still putting my money on Apple pushing wireless headphones/earphones as the 'solution' to the loss of the 3.5 port, NOT lightning connected earphones.

The box will either contain wireless AirPods, or no earphones at all.

Bundling an adapter is not Apple's way; and lightning connected earphones is just clunky, and compromises all potential benefits that Tim will list for losing the 3.5... wireless making gym workouts easier.. no cord to get tangled or caught, etc.

Hmm. Would an extruding adapter likely cause people to damage the Lightning port? I can just see people putting too much pressure on the thing (accidently knocking it, etc) and breaking their phone.

If there is a loss of the 3.5 socket, the future has got to be Lightning connectors or - I suspect Apple would prefer this (although they win either way), Bluetooth headphones.

It's fake.

That's how Apple refers to that port: 3.5" headphone jack (all lowercase, vs "Lightning")
I'm sure they would change the case when it becomes a product/accessory name, but yes I would expect "3.5mm" to be in there somewhere. "Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter" alone just seems too informal to me.

It's fake.
agree.

shouldn't it state somewhere also the color of the phone? besides, what is that sheet of paper? is it something that usually comes in the box?

edit: ok it's the sheet that comes attached at the bottom of the box!

Due to the iPhone 7 seemingly looking to be a bit of a disappointment I bought an SE yesterday, especially as I use the 3.5mm jack a lot for work... Handy I can still sell my iPhone 6 for a decent amount too! The SE is great and a nice performance upgrade but I was really disappointed with one thing, unimportant but shows where Apple seem to be heading -

I know it doesn't seem like much but every other iPhone I've had (3G, 4, 5, 6) has had the chromed sim tray tool and now, for the first time it's very evident to me that Apple are cheaping out rather than giving us the best possible. I mean - why not just put a paperclip in the box and be done with it?

The guy in the shop said they'd had the official iPhone 7 cases arrive early (no idea why no leaks but no reason for him to lie to me) and he said based on the artwork the leaks seem accurate with the iPhone 7 looking pretty much exactly the same as the 6.

Because Apple doesn't not want to introduce a new product naming convention, i.e., they're sticking with the number/number + S convention and since the S is already out they have to use a number now
Actually, I think there's reasonable precidence for changing convention and surprising us with a new name convention..
Think 5c and SE phones.
Think the + phone when everyone was expecting a Pro name in line with MacBooks..
Think new iPad, ipad 4, iPad Air, etc

Apple have had opportunities to simplify the naming across lines several times, but have gone with other choices.

So entirely possible for iPhone 6-something.

I think that you'll find the ejector key on the left is actually cheaper to mass produce. It is just "punched" out of sheet whereas the other requires the material to be rolled, cut and then bent.

So, what are everyone's guesses on storage tiers? We can assume 32GB at the base, and 256GB at the top (maybe Plus only?). Will there be 4 levels for the Plus model? Or 32/64/256?

32/128/256 probably. 32/64/128 won't happen if Apple keeps $100 increments because that no longer exists in the iOS lineup. 32 and 64 are only offered together for the iPod touch and Apple TV, and in both cases there is only a $50 difference.

No way Apple will go back to charging $100 for the small increase after they already widened it.

Love all the apple fanboys defending taking away one of the most widely accepted standards today.
Say hello to "Apple iPhone 7 inovation" enabling a future with drm audio, lower quality sound and unnecessary clunky dongles.

A widely accepted standard that was invented when Noah built the Arc. Dude the fact that you are clearly not an Apple fan and post on an Apple forum to dis their product tells me a lot about you. Why don't you go to an (INSERT YOUR PHONE HERE) website and post positive vibes about a phone you like rather than negative rubbish about a phone you dislike. Try that and see how your life changes. In the meantime, 3.5mm needs to go. It's antiquated analogue tech. Seeya, but I wouldn't want to be ya :D

With close to 7 days to the keynote itself, it seems that it is all but certain that Apple would remove the headphone jack. Moreover, all the rumors leading up to this insinuate the same piece of information as well.

Looking forward to see both the reaction of the tech community and the general public when the news drops. What I do know is the fact that iVerge will definitely act as if this removal isn't a big deal.

I'm genuinely interested to hear the reaction in the auditorium... I'd love to hear a boo (although I find it hard to imagine that would happen) :)

The wheel is very old technology as well, perhaps that should go to.

First time ever I won't be upgrading and thats saying something! I don't want an adapter to connect to my expensive headphones. I hardly see anyone on the London tube using bluetooth or wifi headphones and its arrogant for Apple to assume the masses will rush out and ditch their working headphones just to accommodate a slimmer phone which most people don't even want in the first place.

Think 5c and SE phones.
The difference there though is that Apple introduced brand new models distinct from its other offerings.

The iPhone 7 is just a repackaged 6s that will be thinner, offer a newer cpu and lack a headphone jack. The change is so minor, I can't see apple making a whole new name. I'm not privy to their internal discussions, so its quite possible that could happen but I'm of the opinion that it will be called the 7

Seriously, these kinds of posts are just the most infuriating. I'm going to rubbish your opinion, but provide absolutely no content to backup my ridiculous comments.

Please tell me future boy - what way will we, as users / consumers of the iPhone, benefit from the removal of the headphone jack. It's not like the headphone jack has to go, in order for lightning or bluetooth to continue to improve, so what does removing the headphone jack achieve exactly?

I'm all for improvement of technology, and removal of obsolete technologies - but whilst I accept bluetooth brings advantages, I don't accept that making the lightning port the only I/O port on the phone brings any over offering both the lightning and the headphone port. Travelling, and want to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time? TOUGH. WHO NEEDS THAT DINOSAUR TECHNOLOGY ANYWAY - THIS IS MUCH BETTER.

for comparison.

curious how the last paragraph lines return differently though the content is the same.
does this make it more or less legitimate? i don't know what to believe!

i calm down now, if apple really sells stupid lightning earphones with a 1k$ device i sure hope some people start to boo at tim during the presentation.
