Although I won't be buying anything Apple releases this coming month, some excitement is building. Yawn factor high though. Wonder if there will be any 0.0005% discussion by Tim before kicking off proceedings. Looking forward to the first keynote from the super slick new campus in the new year.

While extremely overpriced, more storage is always good. But I still don't understand why they're not going the usb-c road. Even their MacBook has it, the new the new MBPs will probably too. Why not make everyones live easier and go with usb-c.

Other than, "Apple is stubborn", can somebody explain this? It's not like the usb-c port is huge in size compared to lightning.

I'd also be interested to know. It'd be great to have one charger for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Seems odd to have two different standards (Lightning and USB-C). This is true fragmentation.

This is a faked image... that's now clear.

I'm still putting my money on Apple pushing wireless headphones/earphones as the 'solution' to the loss of the 3.5 port, NOT lightning connected earphones.

The box will either contain wireless AirPods, or no earphones at all.

Bundling an adapter is not Apple's way; and lightning connected earphones is just clunky, and compromises all potential benefits that Tim will list for losing the 3.5... wireless making gym workouts easier.. no cord to get tangled or caught, etc.
I'm seeing Twitter posts pretty much confirming lightning + adapter in the box. Then Apple can upsell you to wireless.

I would just love if this is some massive troll by Apple haha but I also don't mind if it's true.

Really interested to see how Apple sells this! Will they face the issue directly or just avoid it? I can't imagine they can get through the whole keynote without talking about removing the headphone jack.

You can bet every reviewer on the planet will mention it though, and they'll mention it repeatedly. This will dent iPhone "7" review scores hugely.

I bet sales are weak too. An uninspired rehash of a 2 year old phone which is missing absolutely vital functionality for no gain. Clearly Jony Ive is now on Samsung's payroll.

I like your thinking. Along the lines of 16/64/128. I have a bad feeling though that 32/64/256 will tempt them as they'll see more people feeling the need for 256.

Also makes me wonder if they would potentially go to $150 spread like the iPad Pros have.

I really hope that isn't the case, but it'll definitely be interesting to see what they decide.

Another reason why I can't see 64 sticking around alongside 32 is because the sales of the 64 will suffer. If there is in fact 32/64/256, who would choose 64? 32 is a decent bump up from 16 at presumably the same cost, and if you're gonna pay extra for more storage, why pay $100 for a measly 32GB extra when just last gen, $100 more meant 48GB extra?

I could actually see $150 increments though if they went 32/128/256.

If Apple want to charge £150 for an increase from 32GB to 128GB in the UK, I'll stick with 32GB, which will be much lower than my current 64GB.

I'll just continue to pay 79p a month for 50GB iCloud storage instead and make better use of my £20 unlimited 4G data plan on Three UK.

I'll also remove apps that I never use and only keep my 5* songs on my iPhone.

Simples.

I expect it to be thinner which I'm not liking, but that's the apple way it seems.
Right. For me, the 6s is plenty thin enough. If they keep getting thinner I suspect they will sacrifice battery endurance and capacity and could find the phones bending or breaking a little easier. plus, I want to be able to hold on to the thing too!

Future boy. Thanks champ i'll take that.

You know what there captain dinosaur, I don't think you are.

Splurge for an adapter champ. I'm sure you can afford it unless you want to have a little whinge about that too.

All you did is reply with insults. Thanks for just reinforcing the point I made in my original post. Come on - tell me how moving to lightning and deleting the headphone jack is an improvement for the average / majority users! I'm waiting to be en enlightened.

There isn't a need for it. They're just letting people have the chance to use their existing headphones.

They can't win. If they include an adapter, people complain. If they don't, people complain.

The "win" would be in not making the decision to jettison the port in the first place. Not only will people NOT complain about this very real hassle but they also don't have to roll with the cost of including an adapter... though I still doubt they include the adapter if the included earbuds terminate in Lightning. Did they throw in the USB3C adapter when they rolled out the rMB with only that port? Did they throw in Thunderbolt to Firewire or Thunderbolt to Ethernet when they embraced that port? Why will it be different this time?

They have to introduce wireless charging in this model. I don't see how they can't if they are removing the audio jack. I have BT headphones but if for some reason they go dead and I'm on a flight I'd lose my mind if I'd had to choose between charging and listening to engine noise and crying babies.

Everything is fine guys, with 5-6 dongles the current functionality of the iphone will be maintained.

It's funny. You joke, but so many people here are quite joyful of the prospect of a new dongle proliferation era, be it for an new USB-C only MBP or a Lightning only iPhone. They remind me of 4 year olds who think they are richer than their friend because they have a piggy bank filled with 200 pennies it in and their friend's only has 2 paper dollars.

oh this is funny: for an adapter, would you rather have a lightning connector to 3,5mm port, or a lightning port to 3,5mm connector?
