"A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface.

A headphone jack, a charger, a proprietary interface!

Are you getting it? These are not three separate ports!"

You made my day! :D

I hope they'll include bluetooth EarPods, but a lighting version is ok too. As a matter of fact I prefer wired headphones since I don't have to bother about charging them, but sometimes I take calls while charging my iPhone and I won't be able to to that.
As for the adapter we'll see next week, it would be a bonus since Apple's adapters are usually expensive.
As for the 256GB option it is a good news if they just double the storage, so 32GB 128GB and 256GB at the same price

32/128/256 probably. 32/64/128 won't happen if Apple keeps $100 increments because that no longer exists in the iOS lineup. 32 and 64 are only offered together for the iPod touch and Apple TV, and in both cases there is only a $50 difference.

No way Apple will go back to charging $100 for the small increase after they already widened it.

I like your thinking. Along the lines of 16/64/128. I have a bad feeling though that 32/64/256 will tempt them as they'll see more people feeling the need for 256.

Also makes me wonder if they would potentially go to $150 spread like the iPad Pros have.

it puzzles me they call it iPhone 7, when its basically same design?
Thats quite easy really.

The 2017 iPhone won't be called iPhone 7S, iPhone 8 etc.
It'll simply be refreshed (Like they did with the iPad years ago) and call it. iPhone (Technically iPhone 8)

Or

iPhone Cucamonga!

Yesterday, Apple added a 2TB storage tier to its iCloud service, which could be tied to the impending launch of a larger capacity handset or improvements to phone camera quality. Also yesterday, Apple was granted EAEC certificates for "AirPods" - wireless in-ear headphones which may be sold separately as accessories.

Ofcourse!! First we raise the prices, time after time, and then we're gone charge the customers for a standard headphone! When do we have to pay extra for the box the phone is in?
Are they saving up to pay the EU fine? :-D

They should also include a 3.5mm to lightning dongle in order to use these earpods with the old macbooks. And also a usb-c to lightning dongle to use with the new macbooks. And also a lightning to lightning + 3.5mm in order to charge while listening to music in your office. But then we also need a lightning to 2 lightnings in order to listen to music with the new earpods, while charging.

Everything is fine guys, with 5-6 dongles the current functionality of the iphone will be maintained.

The difference there though is that Apple introduced brand new models distinct from its other offerings.

The iPhone 7 is just a repackaged 6s that will be thinner, offer a newer cpu and lack a headphone jack. The change is so minor, I can't see apple making a whole new name. I'm not privy to their internal discussions, so its quite possible that could happen but I'm of the opinion that it will be called the 7

Yeah, you're probably right. The irony being that because it's such a small update to the phone, they need a dramatic 'name' to actually sell some, even if it doesn't 'deserve' a flagship new-design number!
And 'iPhone 7' will definitely sell more than 'iPhone 6sx' or similar.

OK, you go with 7, and I'll throw my chips on 6sx as an outside 4/1 shot. :)

Well, at least now they'll have another way overpriced storage tier while keeping the ridiculous 16GB as the base.

I challenge you, Apple: why not make ALL iPhone 7s with 256GB and charge the same (base) price? Your cost would be minimal in that volume, and you'd still make obscene amounts of money.

But I guess you'll continue to make money on both sides by charging more for what consumers want and squeezing suppliers and paying less in taxes.

I feel sad.

I'll probably still get the iPhone 7 Plus because I upgrade every year selling my existing model to cover more than half of the upgrade price. But, I just feel Apple is taking the piss this time.

Largely the same design.

32, 128 and 256 GB storage. 32 is not enough and 128 is likely too much, 64GB was (is) perfect for me.

No screen improvement (resolution likely the same - based on rumours only)

Loss of headphone jack for no apparent reason. If it's for a bigger battery, then why can Samsung do both (and in a smaller footprint?)

Apple are getting lazy in my view, and greedy.

oh i heard you have lightning earphones.

now tell me more about how they are an improvement over standard jack ones.
It improves of selling more earphones, just like the lightning cable. It should prematurely breaks and start fraying like the included lightning cable. They already done that to iPhone 6 too it breaks early by design.

Or "The Pro"?

If someone walks into a store and asks for the latest iphone (as they aren't as geeky as all of us and likely won't know the exact number) and the sales person pulls out an almost identical looking 7 the shopper might be like "woah, that's the one I have already got".

Slap the Pro moniker on it however...

So, what are everyone's guesses on storage tiers? We can assume 32GB at the base, and 256GB at the top (maybe Plus only?). Will there be 4 levels for the Plus model? Or 32/64/256?

32 128 256

Apple does something in one product then does the same thing in others.

More importantly, it even mentions lightning to 3.5mm included in the box. I think it's excellent for users if Apple does include it, but I think it's a mistake for Apple as it shows there's a need for 3.5mm still and they've removed it.
There isn't a need for it. They're just letting people have the chance to use their existing headphones.

They can't win. If they include an adapter, people complain. If they don't, people complain.

I would just love if this is some massive troll by Apple haha but I also don't mind if it's true.

Really interested to see how Apple sells this! Will they face the issue directly or just avoid it? I can't imagine they can get through the whole keynote without talking about removing the headphone jack.

Honestly this looks like "Apple getting rid of 3.5 mm headphone jack" confirmed to me. :-(

yes. unfortunate.

I expect a lot of people not to bother upgrading from 6 series device. I have a work 5s which I may get upgraded as the screen is too small.

I don't see them increasing sales at all.

I'm curious to know what Apple's solution to in car GPS will be. I use my iPhone 6 often in my car with Google Maps. Works very nicely, but the huge battery drain of GPS means it must be plugged into power at all times via lightning. The audio is then routed through the headphone jack to the aux in on my car's stereo. This won't be possible on the iPhone "7" as it only has a single output - power or audio, you can't have both.

Are we going to see even more ungainly and easily lost dongles to "fix" a problem which shouldn't even exist?

I'll be hanging onto my iPhone 6 for a good while yet. When it finally starts to show its age I may well end up in Samsung or HTC land. Funny how Samsung can make beautiful phones with no side bezels, insanely high res OLED screens and include both water proofing and a headphone jack.

Totally retarded. Last thing people want is to have to carry around an adapter.

Please tell me future boy
Future boy. Thanks champ i'll take that.

I'm all for improvement of technology, and removal of obsolete technologies

You know what there captain dinosaur, I don't think you are.

Travelling, and want to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time?

Splurge for an adapter champ. I'm sure you can afford it unless you want to have a little whinge about that too.

Cant agree more with the storage. It should 64/128/256. 16 is a complete joke and 32 is somewhat of a joke. With 4k images/videos, i can't believe 16Gb is still being pushed in the 6s. I guess thats what Apples advantage is. Its controlling the market. Lets face it, majority of the world isn't tech savvy and apple takes advantage of that with its simple UI and designs. People are suckers. They don't know better and think 16GB is good so they go for the cheaper model. Pretty sad but thats life. Us users need to deal with it until people become aware of technology.

As for the screen resolution, it honestly doesnt need it. The 6s is crispy as it can get for me personally but i see them increasing it next year if OLED (or microLED) becomes the norm for them. Really no point in increasing the 7's resolution UNLESS they give us the 'one more thing' and introduce a VR headset, which is very, very unlikely.

Honestly though, I've said this in the past, does design really matter? Sure, new design = something new, therefore device is new, but honestly, lets take a look at the 4s>5 and 5s>6. What did they bring that was so great? The 5 is basically the same design but slightly thinner and increased height and people went nuts. The 6 was a big design but internally it was a crappy upgrade. I would much rather the same design (slightly tweaked) and beefier specs with new technology. Heck, i use a case so who cares what it looks like. But thats me. Hopefully we can grow out of it and enjoy new tech.

32>128>256 but the jump from 32>128 will be $150. Apple can say to 64GB owners you get 2x the storage for only $50. Anything to raise those ASPs.
