i didnt buy it for the led, i bought it for the bigger screen. the led just happened to be in the same price range. i have the 40 one at my parents house and wanted to replace the 37 with a bigger one at my place at uni. its not like im using 3 tvs at the same time, im not that crazy

you upgraded from 40" to 42" (per your original post) for the "bigger" screen?!?! wow... just wow! LOL.

yeah right ...
Gene, you won't give up on that nonsense, will you?
You forgot to mention a single reason why a significant number of people would buy an overpriced TV that can do exactly nothing else that a regular TV could do and still needs a cable box.

I'm weary of a Siri TV. Sometimes people want to watch different things; there always has to be someone with the sacred "remote control authority." Having the ability to just switch channels with your voice would be a nightmare (kids switching to their channel even when you tell them no, wife switching from the game to American Pickers, etc).

Sigh.

No more sex in the living room. When your wife cries, "Oh God!"... the Religious Broadcasting Network will appear with Pat Robertson scolding you.

this would probably be a hard sell world wide, like u cant just put netflix or hulu on a european "apple tv" so whats left is a tv that cant do anything bc of greedy companies and their licensing concerns.

Apple will rock the distribution model by offering each TV Channel as an 'app' much the same way Newspapers and Magazines are delivered on the iPhone and iPad.

There will be no more all you can eat plans.

Boom.

I was (and still am) at this conference today. Munster's info seemed to be all speculation, and much of it was out of line with Apple's track record. There was also quite a bit of Apple bashing, which follows his, and others in the financial market's MO. There were a few things he said that were correct, but they were common knowledge.

Again, being in the 10th row of the conference, it wasn't quality information.

This is so ridiculous. Give me an AppleTV version 3 with an IR blaster, iOS app store, and a microphone.

Pretty sure that $99 device covers all the functionality described by Munster. And it'll be small enough to velcro to the back of my existing TV. I'm not paying thousands of dollars to put iOS apps and Siri on my TV, but I will gladly pay $99.

So the profound prediction from this analyst is that it will fit into Apple's ecosystem and will be more expensive than comparable TVs in the market?

He didn't want to include that it would most likely have an :apple: logo on there as well?

Cant see an AppleTV working TBH. I've got an ATV box and tbh its a bit of a letdown. Whoopee, I can watch my iTunes library on my TV...its not something I'd be prepared to pay $1k+ for to be built into the TV when you can get it for $99.

Even if they added extra features, its still not a good deal, especially outside the states where the ATV is very limited on features.

What makes you think Apple cannot deliver both products.

ATV X for legacy or non Apple TV.
Apple HDTV with even better integration for those that want it all in one box.

Of course remember, regardless of how cool it is, NEVER BUY AN APPLE FIRST GEN PRODUCT.
.

Keep in mind that for your 90 minute movie, it's just an off-the-line LCD Panel. Very proven. What apple seems to be adding is the interface you use for the first ten seconds when you sit down and select your channel.

Of course, that kind of makes you wonder why you need to pay double the price for the an occasional ten seconds of added magic convenience.

Its all good until a TV presenter says "Turn off TV" :p

Why freak out at twice the price? Almost all of Apple's products are twice the price of their "normal" market sector average, but we don't care! We pay the premium for the incredible quality, fantastic designs, outstanding customer service and support ... which you probably won't get with the cheaper "solution".

$400 for a 32" normal LED Display.
$799 for a 32" Apple LED display.

I honestly wouldn't be phased at paying the additional amount, but I can't speak for others.

Uhh no they're not. The "Apple is overpriced" meme is a load of rubbish and people like you perpetuating it (even defending something that isn't true) is not helping.

I bought a phone from Apple that is a similar price to comparable phones and an all-in-one from Apple that is not only the most cost-effective all-in-one on the market (the comparable options are a joke, offering much less for only a slightly lower price) but also stacks up well when compared to Dells or HPs with similar specs (especially when given that the only comparable monitor available costs $1000).

The only thing Apple sells at the moment that I wouldn't defend the price of is the Mac Pro, and it hasn't been updated in ages.

Yes some Apple products cost slightly more but it's nowhere near double the price.

Also, does ANYONE believe that the networks will just hand all their premium content for an affordable price to Apple and let them make the big bucks? That already didn't happen for the TV content on the iTunes Store.
Networks want to sell entire packages, not just single shows, and there's no chance that Apple will be able to force them out of their business model.

I would like to see if Apple really does make TV sets. I have my doubts that Apple will sell well on this category.

oh ok. now you don't seem crazy.

sarcasm? not everyone needs 50 >
it wouldnt even fit in my room ... theres more to screen size, like internet access etc. which my original 37 samsung didnt offer. but anyway, this is slightly ot now

Blowing Smoke

I believe if the release date for such a product was as imminent as the unreliable Munster is claiming we would have heard more rumors about contractual agreements looming between such beasts as Apple and Time Warner, Cablevision, DirecTV, Dish Network for licensing and allowance to access their content and interfaces. I believe more information would be leaked based of how many people would need to be involved to get a device that intricate up and running and into distribution. Thinking about it, a device like this could cost more in production than an iMac.

This isn't some minor league production and Tim Cook is too much pragmatist to not get as much assurance from vendors as possible. In other words Our words are as good as Munster's.

5 inches, thats it?

people need to think outside the box. The apple TV box. They keep comparing an Apple Television Set to the Apple TV. Why? Because the names are similar? You think if apple makes a television set its going to be a screen with just apple tvs features built in? No its going to be so much bore. Think watching live tv with all of apples features on top of it. (without switching inputs). DVR built in. The entire guide available via siri. how would an apple tv box accomplish this? You have to switch to a seperate input to use apple tv. There is just no way for apple to completely do away with cable unless they get EVERYONE on board and tho that might be the future goal it wont happen anytime soon.

Or you and all of us are missing the point entirely. If Apple TV is really something we can expect next year i think it will be huge. TV, a game console, FaceTime, Apps, iCloud and all of this in a nice and simple UI.

If the price is right it will be one more Apple device you won't be able to live without if you already have Apple devices, because they all work together perfectly, like MAGIC.

Edit: Forgot to mention Siri and gestures.

I would like to know if this 'twice the price' he has predicted is, twice the price of normal televisions, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung etc. Or is he referring to twice the price of the premium televisions from Lowe, Bang and Olufsen etc?

Plus I believe this guy has also predicted it will have one co axle input for other devices (Proves how wrong this man is), and I would also like to see an iPod Touch like remote control included. It's not very good to ask people to stump up separately for a iToy to control the television.

I would just take the rumour with the tiniest amount of salt. When you think about it, the less you realise anyone would actually pay for it considering what we already have.
