It's definitely a little frustrating considering that Apple is 100% capable of getting this out sooner or broadcasting it live. (plus, I'm sure some news network would love the rights to live broadcast the event.)

Yea, this used to bother me too. I thought it was just laziness on their part.

Actually, when you figure they're going to render out the slideshows & animations that were projected live on the big screen, composite those in to the vid, choose from different cameras to keep it dynamic, & encode the qt video, 6-8 hrs starts to make some sense.

Plans for tonight:

Play WWDC on a big screen T.V. with friends and drink beer

Hard to wait...

The wait is always the hardest part.. think of all the sites, teeming with fresh footage, pictures, and descriptions of all the juiciest news from WWDC

so how long now do you think.
i heard before midnight for europe, its only 9pm here

Phew...

I just clicked my rss feed of MacRumors out of habit but luckily it hadn't updated to new information yet.

It definitely doesn't bother me anymore because the wait is sorta part of the 'fun'. But, I don't agree that the editing/rendering is a legitimate excuse for the time they take to upload it. My teeny tiny local news station has the capability to live render video and graphics, so apple certainly can, or at least start working on it during the keynote so that they can publish the stream at the end.

Apple has a huge team of people who write THE video editing program (Final Cut Pro), and they are certainly capable of hacking together a program that can live cut between video feeds and automatically advance graphics every time Jobs clicks his little remote. These keynotes are practiced and refined for days before, so it's not like they need to plan for unexpected events.

For the encoding/streaming demands, Apple has huge render/server farms that could certainly handle the load.

But, as I said before... it's not that important to me. It's just more surprising that Apple doesn't take advantage of the exposure they would get from every network dropping everything to live stream keynotes like a state of the union address :).

Unbelievable! its the second time that somebody spoils me Harry Potter in one of these spoiler-free topics! I wonder if somebody is spoiling news about Apple products on Harry Potter forums!! :D

I want to read the books someday but I don't care much about Harry Potter, don't worry ;)

I'm also in Europe 10pm. I've seen kind of all except 1 keynote spoiler free so far for the past 6 years or so. They always go online after midnight, never before, if I recall correctly.

Does anybody share the opinion that they keep getting worse? More and more "our marketshare is oh so high" and "our products are the best". I wish they'd edit out those parts and just leave the interesting stuff in.

Oh and there used to be much more Anti Windows jokes, fun and so much revolution spirit in them. Now it has become much more commercial. What will happen when Stevie is gone? I don't think Apple will be the same, the spirit is already dying with his sickness I guess, but that's just my opinion.

That's a good point. There's really no excuse. I was even thinking, if they stream the thing, then what reason do people have to buy tickets, but of course, the keynote is just the keynote of wwdc, there's still all the other reasons devs go... I'm gonna go with my first impression of laziness after all.

Cool. I do have linkophopia right now but do you have a link that I could cautiously follow?

Isn't there an Apple nerd song or something like that?

I'm also going spoiler-free for the first time. Was out all day and only just got home so thought let me wait and see what its like but its SO hard to avoid spoilers. If its not up by midnight (UK time) then I think I'll cave in and find out.

Ive barricaded myself in my office, back from a bike ride now im here til late or until apple decides to start streaming.
