EU boosters celebrating their regulations is fun to watch.
Thankfully, the *actual market* (not the imaginary one in their heads) will decide.
Alt App Stores = fail. Nobody wants this besides a tiny group.
99% of the population won’t bother — it’s hard enough to get a download from the frictionless App Store. Imagine telling them they have to install a different store, provide more private info, a credit card, etc before they can even TRY to download your app 😂
So in the end, the EU has forced Apple to add in a bunch of complexity to iOS to benefit a couple of large companies. Whether they will actually benefit is an open question.
I hope you enjoy the buggier experience, because any time something like this is bolted on, it’s bound to suck. Not because Apple is breaking it on purpose, but because iOS wasn’t engineered this way. Things will likely break in weird ways.
As for all the “competition” and “freedom” arguments — I guess??
Yes, dude can now get his vape app, and porn apps can be a thing, so freedom!
Not convinced on the competition aspect — who is suddenly going to be super innovative and competitive with…Apple?… because of these rules?
