Not a particular fan of either but I have found Apple's One family subscription a really good deal particularly if you also enjoy Apple TV+ shows (which I do).
Along with my 3,5 euro per month SkyShowtime (I believe it's Peacock/Paramount in the US) it's probably the best deal I have going on.

These services are so commoditized that anything but the price for the total package is literally irrelevant.
Of course, it's set up like this by design.

It's the same reason why Apple briefly did the Apple Music Voice plan where you could only play songs using Siri.

It's not a genuine attempt at making a solid but less expensive service but instead just a bait-n-switch style product that lures consumers with a big discount but frustrates them so much because of numerous features cuts that they are bound to switch to the full plan eventually.

This is a prime example of en****tification: The actual, attractive product that the consumer would want isn't improved or offered at a lower price, increasing its value/$. Instead, the full-size, high-value product is segmented into 3-4 lesser products to "suit difference needs".

It's really not about meeting different "needs" as the value/$ of the lesser products is a fraction of the full product and really only serves to have you overpay for no value, or to push you to over-value the full-size product and agree to paying the full price even though you viewed it as too expensive before the en****tification.

It's the same reason we have 3 different tiers of iPhones, and 5 different iPhone models in the annual line-up instead of 1-2 that meet most needs and cost <$999.

More of this, please. Give me a cheaper YouTube premium subscription without Music and a cheaper Prime membership with two-day shipping only.
The reason they don't is the total revenue from selling a bundle is likely more than if teh sold things a la carte, since you get people who only want part of it but are willing to pay the bundle price to get it. Offering separate purchasers might result in a few additional sales that may not offset the lost revenue from bundle purchasers going to lower tier offerings.

The largest non-paying subscriber base also

You mean the largest base where the customer is the product they sell to advertisers. They aren't not making money off the free tier.

This is an edge case but I use Spotify because of it’s API. I’ve been scrobbling to last.fm for almost 20 years, and Spotify does this perfectly. Neither Apple music or YouTube support this natively, the “solutions” usually involve listening to music in a browser or attempting to sync play counts on a schedule.

I would 100% switch to Apple Music if it could sync with last.fm, and there are hundreds - perhaps thousands - of people in the same boat. Not enough for Apple to care about.
I used to use last.fm, but I stopped years ago (really, around the time I started to use an iPod touch for most of my music, so around 2009 or so). Since then, I’ve more or less decided that I’m not particularly interested in sharing the music I’ve been listening to, nor is anyone else really interested in what I listen to. I hadn’t even heard or thought of the name last.fm in years. (Besides, I’ve gone back to physical media to some degree, and that, especially records, obviously cannot connect to last.fm at all.)

Clearly, you find some value in using it, but I’m curious why. I’m also surprised to find out it’s still around, so you’re clearly not the only person who finds value in it.

YouTube needs to take lessons, remove the Music piece and charge $2 less for "Premium"...not like they won't just jack up the prices 6 months later.

If YouTube Premium had a "no ads only" option for $5 a month or so, I'd buy it tomorrow. I'm not a fan of their music apps and don't want to pay for them.

As it is I just use uBlock Origin for as long as it works.

I've been enjoying the audiobooks! I think 11.99 is a good price! No complaints here.

I like them too although now that I have the option of not paying for them, I may bump down and save a buck. I don't listen to a ton of audiobooks on Spotify - it's tough for me to keep my attention focused and I end up getting lost. Each to their own!

Even 11.99 is a ripoff. I am paying 2$ for full Family Subscription via Turkey. No problems so far. People paying the full price for subscriptions imho have 0 brain cells and cant help themselves.
Glad I haven't paid fill price since 2018 ;) I was simply stating that it's a good price for those interested.

I realized that spotify and services alike are mostly useless for new underground music. Many artists post their stuff for free on Soundcloud, other songs are available on YouTube which still works perfectly with adblock. Meanwhile spotify have added 3x more ads and there are barely new songs from artists who do not rely on big labels and distributors

Call me when they have a cheaper plan without that idiot Rogan.

I hate to break it to you but …

this guy is everywhere again.

If people like Spotify, I’m happy for them. To me, it’s just another company with yet another subscription service for “just a few dollars” a month. Enough already. I’ll pass.

I have two rules these days: 1) Not one more subscription service 2) Not one more device that requires charging.

I refuse to listen and use Spotify as a music producer and composer. I use only Apple music (family package).

My rule: no Lightning devices. All my devices are now USB-C (except camera).
