Simple case of corporate bickering that negatively impacts consumers. Same reason Ring cameras and alarms don't work with Homekit after they promised it for YEARS!
Never bank on promises. It either supports it now and purchase it or look elsewhere. A future promise is folly considering you already paid for it now and eventually will find it hard to migrate to another option once you are settled.

Having tried both Spotify and Apple Music recently, I have to say the quality of the sound on Apple Music is so MUCH better.
Spotify has a better Ui though and play lists.
Overall, the sound quality is most important, so I think after my 3 months expires for Spotify, I will be switching.

Which is not unique to AirPlay2. The problem is, everyone has their own technology: Spotify Connect, Chromecast, AirPlay, there are others. In a consumer-centric world, there would be one all-encompassing standard. But there isn't. And let's be honest, any audio equipment worth its salt supports a bunch of them. Hell, my 10 year old budget Denon receiver does.

If you use Spotify, you already have choices within the App for casting, including multicasting. Hence my previous message: This is manufactured rage over a margin feature.
No, it’s actual rage over promised features that haven’t appeared with a peep.
This isn’t Apple delaying a free software update to enable universal control, and telling us that instead of it coming in December, it’s coming in the spring now. A small little update would be nice from Spotify.
Instead, it’s:
•AirPlay2 being released back in May 2018, Spotify saying they would support it, and almost 4 years later still nothing, despite every other competitor having it enabled.
• Spotify announcing that they would have a lossless music feature available before the end of 2021… and in January 2022 still nothing despite all of their competitors having upgraded catalogs.
• Spotify publicly complaining that Apple was restricting them from Support with the HomePod, and almost 2 1/2 years after the ability for them to have HomePod support was added, still not updating to support it.
It’s very clear why they are doing what they are doing, and it’s very clear why customers have all the right in the world to be mad about it.
If Spotify says they’ll have all these features that their competitors have eventually, then maybe some people won’t switch over their subscriptions. They just keep saying “it’s coming soon,” “it’s coming soon,” “it’s coming soon,” and there will still be those who will stick around, hoping it will maybe, one day happen.
This isn’t an “Apple Music is better because it has these advantages” situation, this is a “Spotify treating their customers like garbage” situation.

Apple really needs to up its AppleMusic game while it’s biggest competitor is disorientated. The Music app on iOS is horrible, get with the program Apple I thought you had a passion for t huh is industry.
This is so true. I pay for both services but really, really want to ditch Spotify full time but Apple just makes it hard.

  • Library management is still a huge mess in Apple Music (albums randomly splitting up, live versions in iCloud Music Library play instead of the studio versions when using Siri)

  • Deleting songs from your library removes them from any playlists. (Some people like that...most don't. It especially sucks when you want to replace an album with a deluxe reissue and all our playlists randomly lose those old songs w/o alerting you)

  • Seriously, how has Apple Music not created anything close to Spotify wrapped yet? This is a truly sticky feature that a lot of people stay with Spotify for

  • Random UI things that kill the experience. Many Atmos-mixed songs are horrible...I should be able to tap the Atmos logo IN THE PLAYER to switch from stereo to spatial. Not jump into control center, long-press on volume, then switch it off FOR EVERY SONG.

  • For the love of God, let us follow artists and get a tracker/playlist of any new songs they put out. Why do I need to rely on a 3rd party app for this when Spotify has this built-in and it works great.
Apple has such an opportunity here to take more marketshare from Spotify, who has their head in the sand trying to force podcasts down people's throats and is one of the only remaining services w/o lossless or Atmos support. Wake the hell up, Apple!

I suffer from tinnitus as well but I forget about it most of the time. I rarely go to bed without earbuds in playing something so I suspect that’s why I feel like I don’t have it anymore sometimes.

It’s maddening otherwise.
Now we’re going a bit off topic, but may I suggest setting a timer on the music when going to sleep or being really careful with the volume? Especially if using ear buds or having the sound source close to the ear.

My latest most intrusive tinnitus actually started while I was listening to music during night – something I had gotten used to to drown my other, milder sounds out when going to sleep.

So sad to get a new tinnitus sound while trying to manage the ones you already have. ?

I’ll agree with you on the volume request, if Apple made a setting to let you choose to limit volume.

I’m actually very optimistic on this front.
First there was this:
Then there was this:
So given that, just last month, Apple not only responded to a customers criticisms, but also began rebuilding parts of the macOS Music app, Give me hope that we might be seeing some big updates to the code, UI, and UX in the upcoming months.

lol so many words like "hate" ... honestly, people. MacRumors is trolling you for ad impressions and you're taking the bait. It's no one's business—no one—what music service you use. Apple Music? Awesome. Spotify? That's great. Amazon Music? Fine choice. Tidal? You rebel! Used CDs bought at Goodwill and ripped to your iPod? Old Skool!

Let billion dollar companies squabble like children. They don't need us to manufacture righteousness on their behalf.
I agree! I personally love Apple Music. I have found even very niche music is on there.

Ok maybe there is some technical explanation to this. When you listen to a developer trying to take advantage of an Apple API there are usually some woes.

Regardless I'm casting my vote on Spotify being better than Apple music on most things.

I’ll agree with you on the volume request, if Apple made a setting to let you choose to limit volume.

In iOS there’s this:

Settings –> Sound & Haptics -> Headphone Safety

But also be careful with long term sound on lower or at seemingly ”OK” volumes. I think there are too few warnings out there about that – most are about loud noise.

I have both Spotify Premium and Apple Music but Spotify gets the nod for best overall experience here.

Yes, I'm holding a glimmer of hope thanks to those stories, but I'm also fully prepared to be let down in June that iOS 16 shows a barely changed Apple Music

I jumped ship a while ago. I am too embedded in the apple eco system. Watch support would have kept me hold on to my Spotify subscription. Now I’m fully hooked through Apple One.

Marco Klobas:

AirPlay (1 and 2) is capable of ALAC (lossless) streaming up to 44.1 kHz (48 kHz for video contents).

Hi-res lossless (over 48 kHz) isn't supported via AirPlay as a protocol, regardless of Apple Music.

That said, Apple Music in its lossless form streamed via AirPlay isn't only limited to 44.1 kHz (as expected like said before): unfortunately it's turned into a lossy (AAC) stream. It has been confirmed from various sources

I left Spotify a few months ago for Apple Music after years of being with them. There is no excuse for this laziness. Apple Music has been great, so Spotify join the league of Dropbox and loss custom and Apple gain.
My favorite was Spotify not supporting Apple Watch for 6 years, but supporting Fitbit and Galaxy Gear. My Apple Music sub is a big middle finger to Spotify and I’m never going back.

Sometimes wonder what the Spotify development team actually do. Very close to dumping them for Apple Music

YES. There are barely any devices that natively support Apple. Sonos does and a small handful of others, but I have several audio components around the house that support native streaming from a variety of apps and Apple Music doesn't work with any of them. Even some of the higher-end streamers you can buy...no Apple :/
In my house, I have:

Bose Soundtouch : supports Airplay 2
Sonos speakers: supports Airplay 2
Denon AVR-S750H Receiver: supports Airplay 2
Libratone Zipp Portable speaker: supports Airplay 2

Not to mention 2 AppleTVs hooked up to my TVs that both support Airplay 2, and now with Monterey, several macs that also support it.

Only device I have that doesn't support Airplay 2 is an Echo Dot that Amazon gave me as a freebie.

The nice thing about Airplay 2 support for me is that it allows me to have a Sonos like system, across many device types and manufacturers.

Not supporting this is rather crazy IMHO.

And the Echo's all support Apple Music natively, so if you have a bunch of Echos in your house, you can group them together and play Apple Music with your voice on multiple speaker at once. (Not the same as AirPlay 2, but at least it accomplishes part of that goal for people all-in on Echo.)
