Spotify is a crap company, and if Apple would ever add native support for Echo and Sonos devices in the Apple Music app I would drop Spotify in a heartbeat.

I truly hate Spotify as a company. They're so slow and when they implement something new it is often mediocre. I really enjoy Apple Music's sound quality and intergration into the HomePod. But the ability to look up user-made playlists on Spotify, their UI and their Discover Weekly is keeping me at Spotify.

I agree, there's nothing to like about Spotify as a company. I can't support them with my business. I'm all in on the Apple Music experience.

Time for everyone to leave them they don’t deliver, Apple Music is much better

with its lossless tier and integration, since it's an apple product.

functionally it's horrifying and apple would do great things with spotify's team of UI/UX designers.

AM has been giving me grief on desktop up until the recent 12.2 beta where they are finally making the music app with....the same software kit theyve been telling everyone else to use....

And the Echo's all support Apple Music natively, so if you have a bunch of Echos in your house, you can group them together and play Apple Music with your voice on multiple speaker at once. (Not the same as AirPlay 2, but at least it accomplishes part of that goal for people all-in on Echo.)
Sure, but I only have one Echo (it came free with an Eero 3-pack)! I do use Apple music on it, but as it's not Airplay 2 compatible, I can't use it to get room to room continuity.

Why supporting HomePod? Apple doesn’t even sell it anymore. It is just a niche product.

Spotify is a great music streaming service. The number of customers is confirming that

The main new feature of AirPlay 2 is the ability to stream from an app to multiple speakers simultaneously.

Maybe they don't see it as necessary - but they clearly did when they announced that they were working to bring the feature to their app.
Well, Spotify has Spotify Connect. If you wanna stream Music on multiple speakers you can do it easily on Sonos, Bose, Teufel, B&O,…
I think they just realized that there is no need for AirPlay2. Why putting effort into it if there is no need

HomePod Mini is still HomePod and is selling well.
But HomePod Mini is like Echo Dot. It is not about listening music. It is more of a smart speaker. Maybe Spotify focuses more on Music Speaker thant small Smart Speakers

I want to. My daughter doesn't. What drives me crazy now is that Spotify skips (probably due to being stuck on Airplay 1) when playing on my homepods. it's inconsistent, but no other audio from my phone skips. If they don't address in 6 months, I'm probably switching.

Also... what about Spotify Hi-Fi tier that was also long promised?
I don't see that happening anytime soon either. I think they first mentioned the possibility of it years ago and brought it up again when Apple released theirs. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

Clearly the issue is that Spotify just doesn't have antivirus software installed.

Thanks. I didn’t ask.
Nobody asked for your opinion either, but that's how the internet works. Don't be surprised if someone replies to you in a forum made specifically for discussion.

I'm unhappy with a few things about Spotify, but I also find that they do some things better than other music streaming services.

I'm not happy with everything Spotify is doing, but they would have to f8ck up a lot more than they do to make me switch to Apple Music.
This is exactly how I feel. Spotify is extremely slow with launching updates and supporting new features. It took them far too long to support offline playback on Apple Watch. But I can't quit them just yet because their playlists and recommendations are just that much better than Apple. I also really enjoy Spotify Wrapped and wished Apple had something similar, the shortcuts trick pales in comparison. So yeah, until they royally mess something up, I'm right there with you.

HomePod Mini blows Echo Dot out of the water. I have a stereo pair of them in my office and they sounds fantastic. Not as good obviously as the vastly more expensive HomePods, but compared to an Echo Dot, it's night and day.

Apple supports only 16/44 via its obsolete Airplay 2 while it offers Hi-Res audio. As well as Apple does not have Spotify Connect analog. So what to do with it?

What would I get with AirPlay 2 inside Spotify that I don't already get when I use control centre and play to my AirPlay 2 Sonos speakers? I can use AirPlay 2 with Spotify already now.

Apple still hasn't bothered to release any version of Homepod in my country. Should I hate them as a company because of that? No, not really. They're a company. They don't care whether I love or hate them. They do whatever they want because they have their reasons and my opinions don't count for anything.

I like Spotify for many things, some of which you have listed. I haven't heard any sound quality difference compared to Apple Music - they're all more than enough for most situations people actually use them for. Like mediocre wireless (Apple or other brand) speakers, homepods and other subpar speakers. If you play with mediocre gear, don't complain about the sound quality you get out of the app. You're butchering it anyway.

Of course, there's also Siri. If I don't want to speak Murican to it it'll be more likely to call mom than play anything I want it to play. And if I do decide to switch language I cannot play any of the songs of the local bands as I can't figure out how to molest the words badly enough for it to get what I'd want it to do.

The end result: It doesn't make much difference which app I use to play based on Airplay2/Siri/sound quality, so I just concentrate on usability and there Spotify wins hands tied behind it's back. I'm sure plenty of people prefer Apple Music. That's the beauty of having multiple options. Something for everyone.

But it isn’t. And that’s the problem.

Apple doesn’t have “discover weekly”, “release radar”, daily playlists, etc. Until it has some decent smart playlists like those that help you discover new music, I’m not interested.

And Spotify Connect is pretty much flawless. Airplay? Erm… no.

I believe all of their whining and lawsuits are related to the China owned Tencent which owns 9% of them and 40% of the other billionaire company attacking apple’s ecosystem. I believe it is a concerted effort to undo Apple’s strength to allow Tencent to flourish at Apple’s expense. They are big in smartphones too

This is the problem. Spotify does some things really well, like what you outlined above, but then it does some things really bad.

The exact same is true for Apple.

This is why I am forced to use both.

My perfect service would feature:
  • A cloud music library (for my owned music not available on streaming)
  • Lossless & Hi-Res sound quality options
  • Fast, clean and intuitive UI (Seriously, Apple..why is the heart for a song not front-and-center anymore?)
  • Spotify Connect-like functionality
  • AirPlay 2 support
  • Time-synched lyrics
  • Discovery features
  • Tracking of favorite artists new releases
  • Intuitive and powerful library management

Which is not unique to AirPlay2. The problem is, everyone has their own technology: Spotify Connect, Chromecast, AirPlay, there are others. In a consumer-centric world, there would be one all-encompassing standard. But there isn't. And let's be honest, any audio equipment worth its salt supports a bunch of them. Hell, my 10 year old budget Denon receiver does.

If you use Spotify, you already have choices within the App for casting, including multicasting. Hence my previous message: This is manufactured rage over a margin feature.

It’s just another outlet for the anti-Spotify crowd to express their anger because Spotify is the leading DSP. Laughable.
