I don't remember how iPhone for Life differed from iPhone Forever. Seems like the idea would be yearly upgrades no?

My understanding of that plan was simply that it was an unlimited plan at $50 a month for as long as you had an iPhone on Sprint. If you upgraded to another iPhone you still kept the same price. Both leasing and Easy Pay could be applied to it. It wasn't an actual 'upgrade' every year type plan.

That's what Easy Pay was originally intended to be. Pay off your phone, upgrade when you want.

Some math to consider:

7 x 12 = $84

As appealing as this discounted plan is, we have to remember that $15/mo is an introductory rate that requires a trade in for existing customers. So AFTER you upgrade (most likely 12mo from now) then in the end your savings end and now we've turned in a perfectly functional smartphone for a temporary savings of... $84.

iPhone Forever is GOOD for:
- New customers (trade in not required if you're new)
- Existing Easy Pay customers because you haven't paid off your phone yet
- People who plan on sticking with this phone for a long long time
- People who were planning on trading in anyway (Some Framily users had a free upgrade)
- People with a drawer full of qualifying trade in devices that they were never going to use

iPhone Forever is BAD for:
- iPhone users who could sell that thing for 3x more
- People who plan on upgrading early

For me, I'm 12mo deep on an Easy Pay iPhone 6+ which means I have $460 balance. While I could make money by buying it out and selling it, the profit wouldn't be very significant. So trading in an iPhone 6+ is a convenience.

If I had 12 months left I'd probably do it too, but I only have 17 days left. I paid outright for the 6plus on 2 year agreement. So it makes no sense for me, 84$@12 or 168$@24, right now I can get 300 and up depending on where I sell. That's roughly 2-3 times more than the discount is worth.

Anyway my question is more geared towards does Sprint consider the Samsung replenish a smartphone. I have one sitting around, I'd rather turn that in for the discount as it would be more than worth it. Currently Sprint will buyback that phone for 1$ credit, technically it's a smartphone. Sprint says "turn in any smartphone" but I can't really find any info that clarifies.

Not really a big deal, but would be a great savings. Either way I'm not turning in my 6plus which I could get 300$ or more for to get a 84$ discount. I actually plan to keep it as a backup or take to appl store for credit towards a new iPad pro or iMac/MacBook of some sort.

You should certainly try to dump that Replenish on them

Oh I'm going too, actually about to call the store now. Phone rep said they didn't know so I needed to go to a store. Hopefully I can.

If not I'll just pay the rate without the discount.

So I got my upgrade order in. There is not info on ETA or estimated time for delivery...?
Uhm…almost 10.5 hours after preorders were opened? Why would you expect any info on ETA?

Last year it took almost a week before delivery ETAs started showing up for preorders on Sprint's website. And that's all it was. ETAs! Not an actual concrete delivery date.

Delivery of Sprint "launch day" preorders didn't actually start happening until about one or two months after launch day.

May not be the case this year but I wouldn't bet anything on it.

I got 2 emails. One for the order and the other was about estimated shipping dates. Basically, we will try our best to get the phone to you by 9/25. Some mode configurations were up to 4weeks but none that I ordered.

This was for both orders I placed.

And is anyone really surprised that ships dates from Sprint's site are either "We'll try" or "in 4 weeks"?

I know some of you said it's just a phone and you can wait, but why preorder at midnight for a phone on launch day if you are ok with waiting that long? I mean in a week or two you can just walk in to an Apple/Sprint store and get one right then. Those that have four weeks to wait would still be waiting.

And who thinks that 4 week date won't slip?
One of the biggest benefits of buying the Apple payment plan vs a everyone else is availability. Apple takes a majority of supply and then unevenly distributes it among retailers and carriers. (And considering we're on the last place carrier then how much attention do you think Apple has for Sprint?)

And that is why "We'll Try" is in their shipping language. Sprint has no desire to upset that last of us on their network so they indeed will try. But if Shipment #1 doesn't show up then thats not their fault.

That said. Sprint only has a few of us rushing for this so if you did an AM order then its very possible for Christmas to come on September 25.

I have a 6+ Plus now under lease. This morning I decided just for the heck of it to see if I had an upgrade available and it let me, so we'll see what happens.

Coincidentally, I also have a 5s on my plan that I no longer use. Back when I added the 6 plus I was told I had no upgrade so they would only give me a new phone if I added a line, I was okay with that.

Back in August, I called to just cancel the 5s only to find out, they actually gave me an upgrade and the only way to cancel the 5s was to cancel my lease. They are still trying to get that sorted out, 5 phone calls to customer service and still waiting.

But we'll see what happens with this new phone, though now I wish I'd ordered the rose gold instead of the gold. :)

Someone will correct me on this if I'm wrong, but yesterday (before the 6S) I saw that iPhone Forever required an iPhone 5S to qualify for the $15/mo plan. But today it only says "a smartphone" and has no disclaimers as to which smart phone and your Replenish would be just fine.

But still. IF they really will take ANY smartphone then I wonder if something like those $10 Net10 phones would work. They really need to put up some details because it says on my email $200 fee if you don't do it right.

Don't forget to give us a working smartphone
You've signed a monthly lease agreement that is discounted by $7/mo for your lease term. To keep this pricing, you'll need to turn in a working smartphone within 30 days of activating your iPhone, or else a $200 per phone charge will be applied to your bill. A postage-paid return kit will be included in your order.

You are correct. And I acknowledge your point about supply.

However, that does not earn Sprint my sympathy. I recognize Sprint's attempts at turning things around but they are in the supply position they are with Apple because of their own actions.

So I switched to Sprint last year on their "iPhone for Life" plan. Am I able to upgrade early? It's telling me that I'm not eligible for another year. Do I need to pay off the rest of my lease?
I'm pretty sure you can just trade in your leased iPhone I was told I can upgrade any time I wanted even though the lease isn't up till 2017 and I was able to pre order as well and I made sure to ask my sprint rep and called customer care about it as well

But aren't ALL the carriers bad? In todays market everyone has the ability to leave which is great. But the reason I defend Sprint is because if I'm going to be mistreated by a carrier then at least its by one that actually cares if I walk away.

$40 - Unlimited Everything Framily Plan
+20 - iPhone Forever Plan
=60 - Latest Phone, Unlimited everything and service that is very good in my area

When Apple becomes a carrier then I don't think we'll see anything close to these prices.

$50 unlimited and upgrade every two years.

Yes. They are all bad in various ways in different places. I won't argue that.

But I've been with Sprint for 16 years and I have to say that Sprint caring about the customer is quite a new thing (if it does exist). It was proclaimed during the Hesse years but I never experienced it. Claure is claiming it and I do see an actual acting on that - now. Perhaps.

But I would argue that caring about the customer is more meant for the new customer.

For the record, I abandoned my Everything Data 1500 plan four months ago for a $140/month ($100 first line, $40 per each additional line) unlimited data family plan.

Right now it's higher than my previous plan but I also have a bunch of stuff I financed with it and a lease for new phones so it's just artificially high. I expect it to come down when the stuff gets paid off.

sbolen from S4GRU forum confirmed the $30 straight lg sunrise works. Walmart has them.

A chat rep told me she checked and I could use the Samsung replenish as long as it worked. I printed the transcript of our chat. So hopefully all is good and there is no shenanigans down the road. She did check and emphasize any smartphone in working condition.

Still can't checkout at 3:43 PM!!! Arghhhh! Anyone else?

That's crazy. I'm not sure, I feel like it was fishy that you could do orders over the phone but would have to pay shipping but online there's no shipping or taxes at least for upgrades with iPhone forever. Over the phone orders worked but the site was buggy.

I got mine through right as the rep on the phone was telling me the shipping cost. Had him stop his order real quick. Seems a bit fishy.

I didn't receive an email yet but my order currently says processing and has given me the option to cancel these items

Site allowed me to checkout at 5am Eastern. Before that, I could select my device and color, but clicking Add to Cart gave me a blank page.

Anyone able to confirm if we will be paying Sales Tax on an iPhone Forever device? Sprint usually charges that stuff up front but so far all I see is the activation fee.
