Just purchased but had a question. I didn't see any place where I had to enter my phones serial #, is this required?

Is safeware good?

I don't know. Until my iPad I never heard of either. I went with Squaretrade on my iPad, however I am strongly considering safeware for my iphone. I learned about both in the ipad fourm.

Thanks for the link I went with safeware since they cover theft/loss which squaretrade does not. My quote is 79.00 for 1 year.

Glad to be of help.

I ended up getting two Square Trade plans. Pretty good price for $160 to insure two phones for two years. I was wondering if somebody knew what I would have to do if by chance Apple replaced my phone for whatever reason. Could I transfer the warranty over, or am I SOL?

I called Squaretrade.com today and they told me that the promotion of $99 for 2 years will be going on for quit a while.

I just ordered 2 warranties THEN saw the coupon code in this thread.

Went into the my warranties section of the squaretrade site, hit the cancel button and reordered using the coupon code.

Great coverage for that price!

Couldn't pass this deal up... It looked good for $99 and even better for $80! I have been extremely careful with my first two iPhones but with all the potential drop issues I couldn't pass this up! If you are on the fence, just do it... Better safe than sorry!

Not only that, but we can choose a $5 a month option. Not a bad deal!

And with that, you can also apply the code and it's a bit cheaper. However, if you multiply it by 24 it ends up costing a lot more than $80 (~110). So it's up to you if you want to pay up front now or pay monthly and end up paying more in the long run.

Thanks for sharing OP. I haven't heard anything bad about the company, and it seems no one else here has either. Can't beat that protection for $80!

So if I was to get squartrade and let's just say I happen to break my phone. I would have to spend a total of $80 for the initial plan then $50 for a replacement fee then I would have to spend the difference if I didn't want a new plan for the 16GB so another $200? So 330 in total or is something wrong here cause that doesn't sound like that great of a deal?

Sorry, SLICKPHONE4 has expired.

Looks like the coupon code is dead! Damn wish I could have saved a few bucks more. :(

Will there be another deal soon? I need to get some coverage on my phone asap!

I would go with Safeware possibly but they dont have a monthly payments plan and I dont plan on paying the full lump sum for a insurance policy.

Any thoughts on Mobile Protect?

Thanks for both suggestions. I'm looking at safetrade, because I'm worried about theft.

This is the first year where I've bought most of my electronics brand new and not second hand(camera, laptop, and mobile phone), and since I have receipts, I figured it might be a good idea to get insurance. I was wondering if it might be better to just get renter's insurance instead of something like squaretrade or safetrade.

Check out this iPad thread on warranties. Read post 63 concerning home/renter insurance.

I was thinking about one of these warranties, but when the code expired I decided against it. While I was on their site I was doing a little more reading and I don't know if everyone realizes this or not but this coverage is to have your phone REPAIRED, and only if it CAN'T be rapaired is it replaced. You have to send them your broken phone, and then they make the determination.

Also, this part had me a little worried:

" # Accidental damage: Unless Accidental Damage from Handling Protection is purchased, we don't cover items that are accidentally damaged - such as water damage, dropped iPods, and cracked laptop screens. "

To me, that says there is some other "hidden" coverage you need to purchase, otherwise dropping/etc. isn't covered. A little too vague and potentially misleading for my taste, especially at almost 20% of the cost of an unsubsidized phone.

what about SafeWare?

I asked SafeWare CS about their iPhone 4 insurance because the website says the max payout is $400 for 16GB model. Basically that's the maximum they can pay for total loss for this particular phone.

So if you lose your phone, the cost break down would be

$87 premium for a year + $50 deductible + $257 ($657 - $400 (with CA tax)) = $394 to replace stolen/lost phone.

That's still $263 cheaper than replacing w/o insurance.

If you damage your phone, SW is pretty good, and just having *some pay-out for lost phone is a plus that ST doesn't have. Also SW doesn't have limit on claims so you are still covered if you drop and break phone once then get it stoken after that.

SquareTrade's breakdown for damaged phone will be $99 (or more discount time to time) + $50 = $149, but Apple will replace damaged phone for $199 so it's $50 cheaper than replacing without coverage. Important part is ST doesn't cover lost/stolen phone at all. ST let you cancel policy with prorated refund so per year coverage will be lower than SW if nothing happens.

I'm still thinking which way I should go.

what about SafeWare?

I looked at safeware too... loss/theft would be nice, though I've never lost a phone.

The one problem I had with safeware is that I couldn't find a SINGLE review of them and their service. Whereas squaretrade has thousands of people vouching for them... and most seem to not have any headaches getting service. In the end decided to go with squaretrade because i'm a bit sketched out about going with an insurance company that doesn't have any reviews. They seem to have been around for a while -there are some posts mentioning them back in 2004 - but that almost makes it worse... they've been around for so long and no one has used them? I'll stick with squaretrade. it's all about peace of mind, and not knowing if a company is any good kinda defeats the purpose. :p

I have a couple of policies with SafeWare. Never had to file a claim so I can't be sure, but they are at least BBB A+ rated company. It's bummer their coverage on iPhone 4 16GB maxes at $400. Theft coverage is tempting, though...

Has anyone seen this, Amazon sells Squaretrade policies for a lot less, 3 yr policy for $54.99:

Well the problem is iPhone 4 is actually either $599 or $699 without subsidy. That Electronics $250-300 plan wouldn't cover the totaled price.

Why is it when I look at squaretrade site it quotes me a price of 59.00 for a 2 yr policy???? Everyone else is saying roughly $90
