I looked at safeware too... loss/theft would be nice, though I've never lost a phone.
I have a couple of policies with SafeWare. Never had to file a claim so I can't be sure, but they are at least BBB A+ rated company. It's bummer their coverage on iPhone 4 16GB maxes at $400. Theft coverage is tempting, though...

Has anyone seen this, Amazon sells Squaretrade policies for a lot less, 3 yr policy for $54.99:

Well the problem is iPhone 4 is actually either $599 or $699 without subsidy. That Electronics $250-300 plan wouldn't cover the totaled price.

But you can only insure it for what you paid for the phone correct?????

Why is it when I look at squaretrade site it quotes me a price of 59.00 for a 2 yr policy???? Everyone else is saying roughly $90

It's because you don't have the ADH extended warranty selected. So basically for $59 it will cover normal failures and such but not drops, spills, or accidental damage. Just check the Accident Damage extended warranty box and you'll be all set.

Their response

Hey Everyone:
I send a support request asking their response about not covering accidental damage, and here is what they said:

Hi Garrett,

Thank you for contacting SquareTrade.

I appreciate your interest in the SquareTrade Care Plan.

Cosmetic damage, such as scratches and dents, which are not effecting the functionality is not covered under the SquareTrade Care Plan.

However, the iPhone coverage SquareTrade offer for brand new iPhones (find coverage below) comes with the ADH (Accidental Damage Handling) coverage, so if your iPhone was dropped by accident and the glass shatters (on the front and / or back), then you are more than welcome to file a claim because that would be covered under the drops and spills coverage. Keep this in mind that there is a $50 deductible for any accidental damages.

We offer extended warranties for iPhones newly purchased in the past 90 days from any Apple-authorized retailer. We also offer coverage for any previously purchased, fully functional iPhones, regardless of age, through our "Protect iPhone 4Less" iPhone app.

Our iPhone warranty offers 2 years coverage against drops, spills and normal use failures.

Any claim that's not related to accidental damage does not have a deductible.

With that said, our experience has shown us that 90% of iPhone issues are repairable and further, over 80% of those repairs are completed the same day we receive your iPhone at our one of our repair depots. Plus, we pay for overnight shipping both ways!

Visit www.squaretrade.com/iphone to learn more about the coverage for an iPhone, get a price quote and purchase a warranty.

Since over 90% of iPhone problems are repairable, in most cases, we will have you send your iPhone to one of our expert repair centers, including FREE overnight shipping both ways!

Over 80% of iPhone repairs can be completed the same day your phone arrives at our repair center. If we need to order parts and the repair takes longer, then the repairs will be completed in 5 days or your warranty is free!

In the rare event that we are not able to fix your iPhone, we will work with you to ensure you to reimburse the replacement value up to $599.

Please note for your future electronic purchases that due to different conditions and risks for item sold on eBay versus those sold by retailers such as Best Buy or Amazon, we have separate requirements for these items and different purchase procedures.

A Care Plan may be purchased on an eBay item up to 30 days from the auction close date on new, used and refurbished items. If the item was "Buy it Now", the 30 days starts when you agreed to the purchase using the Buy it Now feature. ADH coverage is not available on the majority of items purchased through eBay.

A Care Plan may be purchased on an item purchased from a retail store or a non-eBay website within 90 days of the purchase date shown on your receipt or order confirmation. Only new and refurbished items are eligible for a retail warranty; we only cover used items from eBay.

A copy of the auction is automatically stored to serve as your proof of purchase for eBay items. For all other items, we will need to see a copy of your proof of purchase before you file a claim.

Therefore, to purchase a warranty for your future electronic purchases, please visit www.squaretrade.com and click Get a Warranty, then follow the on-screen prompts. Please make sure to correctly choose Retailer or eBay at the start of the quote process, as each selection leads to a different purchase path.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at 1-877-WARRANTY (1-877-927-7268) US & Canada only, 24/7 or you can reach me directly at Ext. 1382 Mon thru Fri 8am to 5pm PST.
