Maybe the starter of this thread should get a contract for free as it seems that they have generated alot of extra business for Squaretrade. :D

I would definitely agree with this. I still haven't purchased my warranty yet. I'm waiting till I get paid later this week.

I just called SquareTrade. The guy told me that I over insured my iPhone 3G 16GB. I had $699. He said get on their website and cancel the warranty and then redo at $499.

The great thing is that this time it let me use the fiftyoff coupon since it was my second transaction. The whole ordeal pretty much cut the cost in half.

The guy was really nice about it. I don't know if anyone from SquareTrade is reading this but THANKS! Excellent customer service.

have any of you ever gotten reimbursed by squaretrade in the past? just wondering, I will probably sign up for this warranty soon.

Since you pay for 3 years "up front" with this (unlike a monthly charge from the phone providers) if you make a claim for a damaged phone and they replace it (actually send you a check) does your 3yr warranty continue of do you have to pay again? That could make this 2x as expensive as everyone thinks. Example: you run over your phone with a truck or drop it in the john. The send you $499 payment for a new phone (with another 2yr contract from AT&T **IF** they even would sell you one at that price ..... maybe it's only one "early renewal price" per customer?). Does the warranty continue on the new phone you have bought?

I also still don't think $699 is under insuring as they claim because you may be forced to pay $699 for the "in contract" replacement. There may be no $499 REPLACEMENT. No one knows what ATT would charge at this time.

Just like every other extended warranty like from Sears, Best Buy, Sams Club, etc., you are only covered for up to the warranty amount. During the three years, if the cost of repairs or replacement equals to $399/$499, then their obligation is over.

You can't expect any warranty company to keep replacing the phone that you keep breaking every year for the next three years.

.

Just purchased a warranty for my 8gb, and want to say thanks for all the info and coupon codes.

By the way, neither 40% off codes worked for me, but the 30% off one worked.

Ended up being 69.98 for my 8gb, with ADH.

Thanks again.

Correct, that's exactly why that type of insurance is never recommended by anyone anywhere. More money is made on the extended warranties then on the product. Sales people get spiffs on the warranties in many cases but not on the item itself because of the huge profits. :)

I bought this insurance, but it just had me thinking.

You will probably be pro-rated a small amount right?

Is this 3 years from the point that the Apple 1 year runs out or is it 3 years from the point of purchase?

Excluding the accidental coverage portion of this, wouldn't you basically be paying for 3 years of coverage that is really only covering 2?

By this logic, buying 1 year of Apple Care is like saying you bought a 2 year warranty since the phone includes 1 year already.

The point of THIS insurance plan is for accidental coverage. You've already got 1 year if any defects occur, and if you buy this it's basically the price of applecare but WITH accidents covered. I'm not so much worried my phone will have a defect as much as I am that i might drop it/break it.

EXACTLY....

It's cool....

I went with the SquareTrade too. Put it in for the $499 for 16GB and the 30% off and now I won't worry about phone accidents. It beats Apple Care in that regard.

Had good luck with the iPhone 2g in a year but you never know.

Planning on a digital camera so the following 50% off won't hurt with that one either.

I went with 499 as well. I was only able to get the 30% off, but thats pretty damn good.

Does anyone know how we get our receipt on file? I don't want to have to worry about not having it 2 years from now!

I ended up purchasing it since an accident is the most likely scenario, however the only thing I do not like is that this plan does NOT cover loss or theft. Whereas At&t insurance does, well I am not even sure if they often insurance on the iPhone....but, they do on Blackberrys now - $125 deductible though.

AT&T doesn't offer insurance for the iphone. I asked when I bought mine and that is what thye told me.

I tried the Summer08 coupone and it didn't work so I tried the friends30 and it did work. 3 years ADH coverage. Hope it's as good as everyone says it is!

state farm $18 a year no deductable

I just called my state farm agent (I have my house and home ins with)
she said I could get a personal ins policy for my iPhone (ins value of $500)
for $18 a year. I figure an iPhone is good for two years. (as with most cell phones) I think it is well worth $40 to cover my iPhone for two years. it covers theft, accidental damage, ect with NO deductible. It either gets fixed or if they can't fix it it gets replaced.
they also cover lap tops and cameras.
I am going down on Monday to get my iPhone and macbook covered.

after my last go around. I am still going to keep it in a case!

Interesting. I'll call my agent tomorrow!

I have it through my insurance company for a number of items (mostly jewelry) But be very careful because if you make a claim it might ending up costing you more in homeowners insurance increases then what you get for the phone. It's sometimes called an Inland Marine policy. Insurance companies don't like claims.

You wrote: "well I am off to do a charge back on my credit card for the dumb thing."

Doing a credit card chargeback for a phone because you dropped & broke it and had to pay for a new one is pretty stupid. Unless you lied about what happened they will eventually deny you. BTW. If you paid for it with a credit card you are possibly covered for 90 days for just this sort of thing (I know AMEX does). A chargeback (which is for fraud, not carelessness) is ridiculous.

The iPhone's coverage with State farm and most insurance companies seems to be inconsistent. It seems to be regional, the cost of the premium varies and it could get cancelled at anytime ... just like with the insurance for everything else that you own and haved insured.

http://www.iphonealley.com/news/insurance-for-iphone

"In our region, which includes Missouri, State Farm has chosen not to continue coverage of the iphone. My iphone rider policy will be canceled August 27th. I was told State Farm considers iphone users a greater risk than Treo or Blackberry users. This evidently is a regional decision, other regions are opting to cover the iphone from what I'm hearing. Would like to hear from anyone still covered by State Farm"

"State Farm covered my iphone too for $39.00 smackers a year I live in the chicago area. And it covers everything. I purchased around July 7th as a personal property coverage along with my wifes wedding ring. all i did was fax my receipt to them "

"They will not insure the iPhone if it is under $400. That's great because I live in NH where there is no sales tax so i only paid $399. I have been a good customer for over 10 years but they would not budge for $1. Personally I think it's ridiculous. What's the point of insurance and how can it be so different from state-to-state."

"Just spoke with my State Farm Agent....
In Florida (Orlando) my cost would be $61.50 per year for a No-Deductible "Personal Articles" policy.
It covers, in full, for loss, theft, or personal accidents (like dropping it).
I think I am jumping on it. "
