It was a matte finish and it is A LOT harder to see the "yellow" in the store but I've been able to convince everyone that's looked at it. The managers at the 2 stores I've visited have been great and very nice.

The MBP's screen is amazing, minus the yellow hue. I was just hoping that the 3rd one would have been an LG screen. Both stores have an LG on display and they are perfect.

The one I received last night was a week 25 machine. My 2 other machines were a week 22 and week 24 MBP.

The closest store to me is 90 minutes away and I can't afford to keep going back, so I'll do a refund and wait and see how everything plays out. Good luck and post back here when you get your new machine.

I will post back as soon as I get one. Hoping mine is not the Samsung as well. If I get another bad one I'm going to use my Macbook until the problem is resolved. Good luck to you

I hope so as well. Let me know. I'm using my Macbook right now as the lappy goes back tomorrow evening. I'm going to wait and see how things play out.

Hi

I received my MBP today (2.2 + 160Gb 5400rpm) after the '7 day shipping' delay. There is absolutely nothing wrong in any way with my machine, in fact its the best Mac I've ever owned (and I have had a few). No yellow / heat issues / dead pixels etc. Here's the SwitchResX data if people are still interested:

Congrats! You got the LG version. The one I've tried on 3 different occasions to get. Did you order in thru the Apple Store?

Can you tell me how you can know if it's the LG or the Samsung? I have just got my third replacement and it is darker and yellower in the bottom left corner. It's going to have to go back. This is getting stupid.
Thanks,
Sean

So no LG screens have had the yellow tint issue?

I've had two LGs now and the first one had a slight yellow tint at the bottom - especially toward the left side. The one i have now is almost perfect, but there is something going on at the bottom too, maybe just a tad darker which means that whites are a tiny bit different that higher up. I notice it, but barely.

This is all BS. Nobody should have to 'deal' with ANY yellowishness at all. The displays should be crisp, evenly illuminated, little or no light bleeding and no tints of any kind. Tha'ts what a good display is about. Anything else is unacceptable at this price range IMO.

I'm waiting for the apple store soho NYC to get some matte MBPs in stock so that I can trade my defective on in. I'm scared that the display on the new one will be bad though. It's ridiculous, but it seems it's become the the rule rather than exception to not know what one will get.

how do you know he has the LG?

9C67 = LG

9C68 = Samsung

9C60 - AU optronics

9C57: Chimei

9C56: Samsung

The last three are previous MBP displays and the first two are the ones used in current SR MBPs thus far.

PDE. I couldn't agree more! It has been VERY frustrating for me. My 3rd one goes back tomorrow and I think I'll wait a bit. Did you get your LG replacement from an Apple Store?

Were your Mattes or glossy?

I too agree with your statement that this is becoming more the rule that exception. At least with me it is. I've had some bad luck with my laps from Apple of late. They have been great about exchanging them (store)and very helpful but they are an hour drive away. I know the road well.:)

It's great that they replace, but it's not ultimately what any of us really want. I hate having to go through a new computer, set it up, transfer all my stuff to it and then discover that there's something wrong and it needs to be replaced. Also, going to the Apple store, for me at least, involved a 45 minute subway ride there, at least a 45 minute stay at the store to get it, inspect etc, and then another 45 minute home. If one has to replace several times, that time adds up and so does the frustration.

Today I picked up my gf's macbook that has been in for two issues. One of the problems was the battery that would just quit at a certain level with no warning (the other problem was a flickering display). Luckily I tested it before I left because they hadn't fixed the battery at all. If I had gone home, I would have had to come back again - all because somebody didn't bother to test after the so-called repair. I find that insulting to the customer since it forces us to make all the effort to get things fixed when something goes wrong and just wastes our time.

Anyway, not fun but hopefully we'll all be happy soon.

Hi

I order the MBP online (UK higher education discount) on the 13th June, the shipping had gone to '7 Days' about a day or so previously. It was scheduled for delivery originally for the 4th July, then 29th June but actually arrived today.

Sorry to hear about everybodys woes, I've had to return so many macs over the last few years due to poor QC, the odds were in my favour to finally get a working machine first time.

My assumption is that the 7 days delay is Apple sorting out the display issues, so if you order online BTO you are more likely to get a newer machine (this is just guesswork). Good luck & perservere with Apple.

P.S. Its the matte screen

Just curious. Was it the LG or Samsung panel?

Yes I agree, Transferring Data and all of it. I'm sitting here wanting a 15" Macbook Pro but don't Dare buy it. (well they are out of stock on glossy right now):)

SandmanTR and PDE thanks. Im new to this mac stuff. I was looking for the actual brand name. Ill be receiving my first mac ever on Friday. I hope i get the LG. seems like the LGs have less yellow tint issues.

My LG screen has a yellowish, darker bottom left quarter. It's a glossy. It's going back.

thats a shame. i didnt say all LGs are good. Justs seems that there are more samsungs with the yellow tint. Im starting to think this isnt a LCD error, but maybe a back lighting issue. If both manufacturers are having similar problems, maybe its the LED back lighting thats screwing it up. Maybe the LEDs are not up to par? giving off a yellow tint when they are too bright? im just listing other possibilities...

It sounds like this is an issue in final assembly, or LG / Samsung buy the components for their displays from the same defective supplier. Hmm... :apple:

Sean. Is the yellow just in the corner or do you have a uniform band of yellow on the bottom 1/3 of the display? Just curious.

It's just in the corner, though I think the whole of the lower half is slightly darker than the upper half.
