I have just arranged for my 3rd MBP to be replaced (darker, yellow screen on bottom left corner). Apple have agreed to do it but have said that if I want to send the next one back it will be a refund only, no replacement option, and I'll have to reorder if I want to get another one. Whilst I don't like the implication that I'm just returning them because I'm fussy, I'm happy with that because won't actually WANT another one if the 4th is defective!

I don't get it. You have told them three times what the problem is and no one bothers to check the next machine they send you?

I'm thinking of sending my next one if it is defective to AppleCare for repair, so at least someone is actually looking at the problem. :apple:

I got my SR macbook pro on the day they came out, how can i tell if i have these problems I cant tell if it looks yellowish. By the way it is a samsung it there a program to tell

If it doesn't bother you, don't go looking for the yellowness! If you are happy, great. Don't become paranoid and check. Most people seem to see it right away.

Agreed! If I didn't work with a LOT of whites during the business day, I'd be WAY happier with the screen. It's something I see right away.

Yeah, I wouldn't go looking for it either. It's only a problem if you notice it during your normal usage. Ofcourse, if you ever neeeeeeeeeeeed to check there's a sample gray image I posted earlier that helped me better see it and show other people it (including Apple Geniuses).

Fight the temptation to look at it though :D and enjoy your MBP.

New Software Update Just Available

**APPLE JUST POSTED A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE MACBOOK PRO**

For all MacBook Pro 2.2 and 2.4 Santa Rosas! It's called MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0

It likely addresses flicker/color issues that we're all talking about!

At least, I have no problems with my current edition MacBook Pro Glossy Santa Rosa! None so far at least.

Kudos big time to Apple for providing quality support and building an excellent product!! They stand-by their products in my experience!

Go to software update and install this update!

How do you know it addresses these issues?

How would I go about checking what display I have in my 2.2 GHz? (Meaning LG vs. Samsung, or are there other things I should know?)

Also, very off topic, but, I know Macs don't have any viruses, but what about spyware, trojans, and the like? I've been getting los of popups on this one videogame site recently, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't infected.

Go to System Prefs, Display, Color. Open the Color LCD profile and click on line 13. Your model will be either 9C67 or 9C68. 67 is LG, 68 is Samsung.

is this normal? this this my second machine, first one had a faint flicker but didn't have such a noticeble line in gradient test.

There have been different problems - though the last two were screen issues.

this is very strange any one else notice this?? I had a yellowish tint on the bottom middle of my screen on osx but when I log onto windows vista I dont see the tint anymore on safari under vista!! this is weiird it has to be a gpu driver issue on the osx. anyone else try this???

Not sure if you read my earlier posts... I had the yellowing and a dead pixel. Finally decided that I couldnt live with the defects. Sent it back on 22nd. Now the replacement is not slated to ship until the 5th! My original order was placed on June 11th! There is a possibility that I could get my replacement / MBP a WHOLE month after the original order. What really makes me nauseated is that there is also a chance that it could be defective...

Here is my question- I am actually considering calling them and telling them to keep the exchange unit and ship me a macbook instead. Will they do it? My order status is still at "not yet shipped" of course...

Thanks...

Also got a MBP 15.4 yesterday. Had a stuck pixel and yellow tint. Recent available softwareupdate for macbook pro didn't fix anything.
I send it in today. Had the same decision to make: Refund or replace. Told them that they should open the next macbook pro for me to check if the new one is ok. Only after that they should send it to me. - They agreed to that.

Hopefully the next one is perfect :)

I've just talked with somebody from exucutive relations regarding my new Macbook Pro SR which has also the yellowish.

He told me that the Apple engineers where investigating this issue on a world wide base. He could not give me a date when the issue should be resolved, but Apple is aware about it.

I will keep you up to date when I know more.

Same here. Noticeble line in gradient test. (Samsung screen)

I took a couple of more photo's, just not sure wheather this is the gradient banding issue? I know the screen is 6bit and Im not expecting it to be smooth, but as far as i know grandient banding doesn't look like that.
might give apple a call and send them the photos. other than this which is not noticeble in normal use my mbp is perfect.

It's a color profile issue. I wrote about it earlier in this thread and it helped a few people out. I also broke it out into its own thread here. Try it out and let me know how it goes for you.

I am looking to replace my MacBook Pro I took back last week due to the yellowish tint tat the bottim 1/3 of the screen. Can anyone confirm that the update fixed this problem? Should I try again purchasing one or wait? Thanks

I've installed the update, but it didn't fixed the yellowish at al (not even change my color profile as some are saying:confused: ).

I just downloaded LCDtest v2 and ran the same gradient test, and there are no lines there

I just called Apple Care about the bottom yellow of the screen and she said the problem was very unique.

Now I have to drive an hour and a half to an apple store and try to get them to see the yellow :(
