I've just talked with somebody from exucutive relations regarding my new Macbook Pro SR which has also the yellowish.

He told me that the Apple engineers where investigating this issue on a world wide base. He could not give me a date when the issue should be resolved, but Apple is aware about it.

I will keep you up to date when I know more.

This is interesting - how did you get to talk to them? I wonder now if I should just keep mine and wait for a recall / replacement...

i took a picture with my Nikon D200 with Nikon 18-200 mm lens. i used tripod. as you can see the bottom part of the screen is darker than the top with some kinda strips or folded paper...

I received the computer this morning and sending it back on monday for another one. Mine is 15" glossy 4g ram 160g (7200 rpm)

What screen does your MBP have?

My 14 days ends on Monday, I'm still waiting on someone from my local Apple store to call me when they get mattes in stock. If they don't restock till after Monday, am I screwed local exchange wise?

I see the strips, but that usually shows up in photographs, can you see them with the naked eye? I really don't see the yellow (or uneven illumination) on the bottom though, maybe the photo doesn't make justice to what you are seeing?

I see the yellowish tint.

If you want to test, simply open a safari browser window at the top and look at the address bar (where you type the links ie www.macrumors.com). Now move it down to the bottom. If the bottom part is offwhite in comparison to the top part, than you have the yellowish tinge.

Most people won't notice this as it is not extremely evident, but once you do, its hard to not notice it.

I am not talking about the little strips... it's the one where the mouse is pointing... (smaller ones around). like a wetted paper... folded... you know what i mean.

You can't see the yellowish down the bottom? the top is brighter... are you sure? I am very picky coz I'd use this machine for design work.

I didn't pay $3200 for a yellowish screen. Therefore, exchange is a must.

No. Take it in before Monday, let them see the issue and log it in their system. They will still allow you to do the exchange locally once you do that. That's what I ended up doing. I actually just got a call 15 mins ago from the Apple 5th Ave store saying that they still don't have any and are expecting some next week. They still said I can do the exchange whenever the units come in even though Saturday is my 14th day.

I just got off of the phone will apple care and they told me that even though it is after my 14 days i can still exchange it out at my local apple store because it was doa meaning that it was bought with the yellow tint. So on Sunday they setup a appointment for me at the apple store and told me to give them the case number and they will exchange it out. :)

I received a 2.4 7200 matte MBP today. I thought I saw a yellow-ish tint at the bottom of the screen, and this thread confirmed what I thought. Tomorrow I will probably call Apple. So am I going to have to mail this machine back to China and receive another one in the mail in 2-3 weeks? :(

I picked up a MBP SR 2.2 standard yesterday. It has a samung panel, but i only see yellow in an angle of the side of the screen. In front the screen is bright and crisp, much better than my Iyama or samsung screen i use at home or the Dell and philips screen at work.

Or do I have an eye problem? In the applestore when i said i want to have a MBP with a LG panel the genius looked at me if i was crazy. In fact he refused to open the boxes yo have a look for a LG panel. Well i dont blame him, with all the items on the forum i never will buy a MBP when the box was opened.

Of course i calibrate the screen. I will not say that "faulty screens" do not excist, but all I read is that samsung screen are yellowish thus "bad" are there others that are satisfied with their samsung panel in their MBP SR?

Just do a quick test. Open up Safari and put the Address Bar part at the top of the screen. It should have a crisp white color to it. Now pull that window down to the bottom of the screen so that the Address Bar is near the bottom. Look at it again, if the color is off whiter to light yellow, than you have the problem. Otherwise, you got lucky :).

go to page 14. someone created two very good testing images. use that to determinate the yellowish problem.

Yes I played arround with the images and sliding the safari browser at the bottom, i do not notice any diffrence. Apparantly I dont see it or it doesnt bother me, ok I will leave it as it is and continue enjoying the bright crisp screen and the performance! Thanks for the replies!

When I first got my MBP with the Samsung panel, I thought it didn't exhibit the yellow tint problem. Over time, I've realized that it does show a slight yellow cast in the lower left. I'm trying to decide if it's enough of an issue to warrant replacement. I'm still within the two week exchange window. Since everything else seems to work, I have to decide whether to roll the dice and possibly get a replacement which has the same or other issues. I've never purchased a computer before that seems to have such a lottery aspect to it as a MBP.

Yeah, I have the Samsung panel as well and have the lower 1/3 with the slight yellowing. Everything else is absolutely perfect though, so I'm really not happy with the thought of taking it back and getting one with more problems... I got the 7200 rpm hard drive option, so I'll have no choice but to send it back to Apple and wait for a new one. I'm just not sure if I can stand it. :(

I am getting paranoid.... If you swivel the screen so that the keyboard is more up, do you experience the yellowish is gone?

I must be blind, I used all the example pics and gestures... do i have a perfect screen? Other users with a samsung screen that have no yellowish?

I had a Samsung with the yellowish tint. Took it back last week. Has anyone received a MacBook Pro recently that doesn't have this problem?

I've had some major issues with my Macbook

- first macbook dead pixel
- second macbook smoke under the keyboard, killed my iPod to
- third doa, iPod crooked screen

Apple Customer Relations replaced it for a Macbook Pro

- first Macbook Pro wrong configuration (matt instead of glossy)
- second Macbook Pro swollen battery (replaced battery)
- second Macbook Pro screen malfunction after 4 months of use.

After the screen malfunction i've send an email to Mr. Jobs and 48hours later i've got a call from Executive Relations "Mr Jobs personal assistent...".

Last week apple replaced the defect Macbook Pro again.
The replacement (SR MBP) has the yellowish and screen flikkering. I've complained about it and talk about it with the Executive Relations agent.

He told me to call me back when he new more. So yesterday I received a call from him that Apple was investigating the issue on a more "wider base". He would not confirm it was a "know issue" but he confirmed that Apple was looking in to it. Reasons he would wait before replacing the Macbook Pro.

As soon as he has new information he would call me back. So I hope to receive a call from him next week.

This is actually quite helpful, because no one really knows if they will get a good screen by returning, as they are so random. But, if this becomes a known issue, I'd rather just have them swap out my screen on an otherwise fine computer. Who wants to hassle with returning and etc.?

Also, I'd bet that many of these screens do have the issue, but people just don't notice/ are not sensitive enough to see the gradual change in hue. (it's quite subtle).

I just spoke to Apple on the phone. I have the MBP 2.4 15 inch matte 7200rpm. It's custom made, so it came from China.

I have the yellowish tint on the bottom of the screen. My options were to send this computer back and receive a new one in the mail (which would take weeks), or send this machine to Apple Repair and have them replace the screen. I opted for the latter. I'm sending this computer back on Monday and I should receive it with a new screen in 5-7 business days after that.
