I just called Apple Care about the bottom yellow of the screen and she said the problem was very unique.

Now I have to drive an hour and a half to an apple store and try to get them to see the yellow :(

Been there, done that. Now waiting for them to get new stock. The drive is about the same for me too

That's funny. When I took mine back I mentioned it to a few floor associates on the floor and they all gave me this bewildered look. I think they know or heard of the yellowing but are instructed to play dumb. Any acknowledgement from any Apple employee will be an admission to the problem and will make Apple look bad if don't take measures to resolve it across the board.

If you can't easily reproduce it or the Geniuses claim they can't see it then I recommend loading up the gray image I posted here. The white rectangles at the top and bottom should look different when looked at dead center. When I took mine back the Genius couldn't see it on a white webpage, but was convinced of the issue when he saw the gray image.

I hope it helps and good luck!

Edit: I'm also waiting for them to receive more in stock.

That picture you posted a few days ago is what finally convinced me that it wasn't just me, but that my screen was indeed yellow. I showed my parents and they agreed. That'll be the first thing I show them. Thank you.

No problem. Now if I could only send it to the Apple Hardware Engineers \ QC team for the Macbook Pro line. It would be more constructive for them to see what we see (if they haven't already) then just talk amongst ourselves here on the forum.

my first 15" MBP 2.4 glossy was a samsung and had an overall yellowish cast, with slight additional yellowing on the bottom. i was really unsatisfied and luckily the warpage on the lid was so extreme it actually fell outside of apple specs! it was pretty bad; to the point where i could lift the cover without the latch.

last night i exchanged it for another which happened to be a LG screen. i must say it looks fantastic with no yellowing. i'm surprised to find an LG glossy. maybe that's what they are delivering to stores now.

Well, there is definite yellowing on my MBP that I just got today. Debating whether to exchange it or not. The comp is fine other wise, and the yellow does not bother me at all times, but I do notice it every now and then.

I will decide over the weekend. Mine is a CTO, so I will have to do it via mail.

Edit - on the phone now - I am returning it

i just got mine. it's a 2.4 7200 rpm glossy samsung display. yes... yellowish crap... i can see it.

Not too bad... brighter on the top... what the **** should I do?

I had the same problem. Didn't want to take it back but I did knowing it would bother me as long as I had it. I'd take it back if it bothers you

When you took it to the store, did you take the entire box and manuals and everything it came with? Did they keep it all until they get more or what? I've never been to the Apple store before, so I don't know what to expect.

When I took mine back a few days ago I took back everything. They normally don't keep the machines if they don't have any in stock but made a special case for me because of the circumstances of my transaction. Usually though if they don't have any in stock they'll just give you a refund and then you can repurchase the new one when it comes in.

What did they say on the phone? Did they recognize the yellow screen as an issue? Also, do you have the Samsung or LG screen?

I've ordered CTO too and wondering if it will be a big hassle to return for a non-yellow screen on the bottom...

what the **** is wrong with those apple designers? how can they send thousands of these f--ked screens to people? quality control... hello?

CTO means custom configured, I ordered a 7200 rpm Hard Drive.

Did not say anything except that they will put in the request for replacement right away. Just wanted to verify that there was nothing physically broken with the laptop. It was the Samsung screen.

They expedited my shipping at no extra charge. Expected to ship between July 11 and July 16.

So all you did was tell them that the bottom part was yellow, and they said send it back?

ok... mine is CTO too then. screwed. i have to wait again...

yea, we have to mail ours in to return, can't bring them to the Apple stores...

What is the deal with the Samsung vs. LG anyway? why would they do that? I suppose LG is the superior display?

how bad is your yellowish stuff? mine is not THAT bad. but i didn't pay $3000 for that though, i made an appointment at the Sacramento Apple store. i'm going in on Sunday.

how come WE have to mail it? they don't take care of it? what is the deal?

It's not too bad, but I notice it a lot because I work with graphics. I'm going to try the software update tonight when I get home, but I doubt that will fix a screen hardware issue. Hopefully they've stopped using the bad ones?

I've had two LG screens and the first one had some yellow at the bottom, mostly to toward the left. But today I went by Tekserve and saw what REAL yellow is! Their 15" MBP on display has a Samsung display with pretty awful lower 1/3 yellowish tint and it's much much worse than the LG I had. To the point of feeling the LG yellow tint really was minimal.

If I had a display with that kind of yellow, I'd return it immediately for a replacement since it's obviously a defective display.

Yep. My feeling exactly. After (3) Samsung screens in about 8 days, I got a full refund late last night, with NO restock fee. I'll wait this one out, or may lean towards that beautiful 17" HD MBP.

On a side note, the crew were at the Irvine, CA store were terrific to work with!!!

sorry to hear this happened yall but with 400+ posts about this these have to be hitting the refurb store soon...hopefully they'll be the same price as the current c2d 15" mbp...if so i'll be buying one immediately

Yes - I sad my MBP was defective in that the bottom third of the LCD was yellow. I guess since I purchased it from ADC store, they take me a bit more seriously since I am a "developer" :)

Person I talked to was very courteous and did not argue with me. Just put me on hold for a few minutes while she set up the exchange and FedEx shipping and I was good to go. Very painless process - and one of my better customer service experiences - even if it was regarding a defective product.

And now the waiting begins anew
