Whole mbp looks more yellow but that's not "wrong", it just has a lower color temperature than the macbook which seems very blue and cold instead.

Run a real calibrator or the one in "displays" in your system preferences and you can probably change it to something else if you want to.

I wonder how many of the machines people complain at just have a different color temp on the whole screen. Or eventually a little darker backlightning at the bottom part.

Corrected colors:

"Omg, the macbook is so blue, omg the macbook pro is so yellow!"

Cybergypsy did you buy this from an applestore (not online) as it maybe their old stock and not a brand new factory fresh one of recent weeks.

So what was the fix? The issue people are saying they have is some more yellow area at the bottom, but I guess it might be there because of a little less brightness, but some people probably complain just because they think the whole screen is "yellow" because they are not used to a more usable color temp than the 9300k or so which many monitors use but which doesn't look like reality (unless your reality are always in the shades outside)

If thru the calibrationtool in system preferences did you use advanced mode or not? I would guess you will get even better colors using advanced mode but it takes a little longer time.

yep, it perfect now

So could it just be slightly darker at the bottom rather than a yellow tint. I was about to bring mine in to get the screen replaced but then I read that these displays are dimmer near the bottom. I looked at the white at the top compared to the white on the bottom, and it was just slightly darker, but not yellow.

Thats how mine was. After calibrating, it looks just fine. It looks dimmer near the bottom, but if you look at it straight on, its not dim.

Lame lame lmae

Its honestly all about the viewing angle and calibrating the screen. YES, the MBP is a little darker near the bottom, but NOTHING that a person cannot live with comfortably. It is almost a non issue tbh.

These people whining and returning $2400 MBPs are WHY WE PAY $2400 for a MBP!! Apparently this thread does not have many business people posting in it.

PS and before you flame and give me "well I paid $2400 for this and I demand perfection", look in the mirror and ask yourself if you give that in your person and professional life to others...MBP is a great product. Quit knit picking and enjoy it. Besides, mommy and daddy prolly bought it for you anyway, so enjoy the free product.

OMG the left side of my lid has .008mm larger gap then the right when closed, I had better return it! WTF people!

It's not about the viewing angle and screen calibration. If only the lower portion of the screen has a yellow cast where it should be white, no amount of calibration will fix that. There are many posts that explain this if you would bother to search. Other than this misinformation, the rest of your post is very helpful.

+1000

Uneven backlightning is probably because it's not filled with thousand of diods but rather a few bright ones and for whatever reason they haven't got the light to spread perfectly, and the people who belive a WHOLE screen which goes to the yellow tone is a flaw should learn something about color temperatures.

I can't decide if I'd rather have a more reliable old 17" kind of "tube" in it and live with less light / year and lower battery life or rather have leds.

Anyway, I asked in a swedish forum if the calibration changes the output levels from the graphics "card" and in that case if that will affect the dynamic the display can give for each color. That is does it become more "balanced" in colors but can't show as many levels and that you therefor lose something by calibrating it another way or will they still go in as many steps and so on?

But is it really yellow or only darker?

With all due respect, have you looked at the quarterly profits Apple is posting? This ain't no Sony PS3 where Apple is selling everything at a loss. Returns end up getting refurbished and sold at a little less than educational pricing.

We pay what we pay for Mac products because people have bought into Apple as a top of the line brand and are willing to pay that premium. It hardly takes "business people" to understand that concept. A small percentage of individuals returning/exchanging/asking for repairs (as is in every consumer's right) is hardly going to put a dent into Apple's profit margins and raise the costs of their products.

But is it really yellow or only darker?

It's yellow. I've returned two MBPs with this problem and decided to get a refund. As an experiment, I placed a GretagMacbeth colorimeter in the lower third of the display (instead of the center of the display) and ran a calibration. The resulting profile caused the upper portion of the display to have inaccurate color rendition. When I ran a calibration with the colorimeter in the center, where it belongs, the upper portion of the display looked very good, but the lower portion still had a yellow cast to it. When I returned both MBPs, the Apple store employees could see the difference in color at the bottom of the display. They understood that calibrating the screen wouldn't correct two different renditions of what should be the same color. It was a disappointment since I was looking forward to the LED backlighting.

Well mine has a Samsung screen, it has been calibrated with Eye One Pro and the bottom of the screen is YELLOW. Not just dimmed, YELLOW. Just because you don't have the problem don't think it doesn't exist or everybody is a moron except you.

I haven't been following this thread, so I'm sorry if this has been brought up already. Is there a bigger chance of getting a Samsung panel if you order glossy, or the other way around, or is it just entirely random?

I've had two glossy LGs, and now a glossy Samsung, and I didn't notice any yellow issue in the LG panels (it was only slightly darker towards the bottom, but not yellow like this Samsung panel).

Good question! I would like to know the same thing.

So, am I correct in assuming that the darker display towards the bottom is because of the viewing angle of the display, and NOT a defect?

Also, how much blacklight bleeding do you guys see? Mine's got about 1-2 inches at the bottom and about 1 inches at the top, and it's kind of annoying me ..

I assume the same thing, mine is slightly darker at the bottom due to the angle. Its 10x better than my last laptop (Compaq), so I am happy. As for backlight bleeding, I have some around the top where the iSight camera is. Its not very noticable most of the time, so its not a big deal to me either.

If it's darker because of the angle then there is nothing wrong with your screen and you don't have the problem.

There's speculation that the LGs panels are less likely to have an issue than the Samsungs. But its impossible to say with the limited sample size here. Keep in mind the fact that many people don't think there is an issue at all and believe the issue we are reporting to be "within specs." To them, we're just being a bunch of anal nerds. :)
