Ordered the graphite in 44mm with a solo loop blue Size 9 ( my wrist is just under 7 inches) hope it fits. Schedule between September 25-29

Please let us know how it looks
Will do and compare with my series 4 space black.
I only upgraded because I plan on getting a new car (bmw) so I plan on using the digital key with hopefully the new iPhone in October. If I wasn’t getting the car i would have skipped this release

What do DLC and PVD mean?

Diamone like carbon coating vs. physical vapor deposition. DLC is actually a type of PVD, and, in Apple's case, their DLC coating seems more scratch resistant than their regular PVD coating.

DLC doesn’t seem like it’s more scratch resistant it is in fact way more scratch resistant than PVD. Have had my Series 4 Space Black for over 2 years and not a single scratch or scuff! Whereas I’ve heard people owning PVD coated watches complaining about frayed edges and scratches with only a little over a year of use.

What do DLC and PVD mean?

Diamond-like-Carbon-coating, which is a very durable coating that protects against scratches, scuffs and discoloration.

Physical Vapor Deposition coating- It doesn’t have nearly the strength that DLC does, but applies a coating for anti-smudging and protection against light scratches. It’s a similar coating that you would see it on firearm slides and was also used on the Gold stainless watch.

I ordered one and I have a Series 3 Space Black at the moment so I can do some comparisons. I hope it's quite black to be honest, I like that look but it is what it is.

Should get mine between the 22nd and 24th of September.

I’ve got a SSSB series 2 with a link bracelet. I hope the graphite matches the bracelet. I’m not getting another bracelet.

Space gray, black, space black, graphite, etc... It’s just marketing. Technically is the same carbon-based coating, a micrometer layer, applied by different techniques and on different metals. From a material’s point of view, both Al and Ti are neat metals, it means they are softer, being Al the most ductile, and the coating gets inherently a more mate finish so it can be seen as more black. Stainless steel is an alloy of Fe/C with low Ni and Cr contents to be protected from general corrosion, it is harder and more shiny so the final aspect after the same coating process is a more grey-like color. My opinion is that the difference between graphite and space black in stainless steel versions from previous models should be very, very subtle and I am educated guessing the Hermes version is the same. Again, just marketing.

Good info for folks.

Interestingly the Graphite Milanese Loop product page claims "An additional physical vapor deposition (PVD) layer gives the graphite stainless steel its distinctive finish." https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MYAQ2/44mm-graphite-milanese-loop

... before reading too much into that, the Gold Milanese Loop page says "An additional physical vapor deposition (PVD) layer gives the gold stainless steel its distinctive finish."

I'm guessing the marketing team fkd up the description.

It's simply a description rather than marketing per se, to distinguish one colour from another. Apple aren't alone in doing this, every car manufacturer in the world does the same, the name changes if the colour changes whether subtle or otherwise. Tomorrow we will all see :)

You’re right but only for the 40mm size, 44mm is not available in Space Black Stainless regardless of which edition.
Not true ... I ordered the Hermès 44mm Space Black Stainless:

It’s not the best video but tucked in to the videos on the MR homepage is one that shows the SS graphite series 6. It looks to be a little lighter and more obviously grey than the old SSSB, on the video at least.

Yeah there is a really quick side by side at 8:02 but wish he would have done a better comparison with the SBSS. The graphite does look quite a bit lighter. Will have to see if I like it when it comes in.

I mean it's much lighter.

Looks to me like the watch sides are reflecting two different backgrounds due to angle differences.

Looking at the corner of each, where they're reflecting a similar background, the difference is less apparent.

We shall see though. Would be nice if the Forbes author had lined them up like he did the Graphite vs Space Gray aluminum watches later in the article.

From the article:
"Of course, because it’s stainless steel, it’s shiny rather than the matte finish of the aluminum Watches, but the graphite color, noticeably less black than the Space Black stainless steel, is classy, subtle and demurely attractive. It looks less full-on than the defiantly black Space Black finish."

It almost looks like it's closer to my space grey iPhone XS.
