From the article:
"Of course, because it’s stainless steel, it’s shiny rather than the matte finish of the aluminum Watches, but the graphite color, noticeably less black than the Space Black stainless steel, is classy, subtle and demurely attractive. It looks less full-on than the defiantly black Space Black finish."

It almost looks like it's closer to my space grey iPhone XS.

I've read the article, thanks.

I was wishing the photos were more apples to apples vs. the angles creating effectively different lighting so I could see for myself rather than just the author's impression.

I hear you. I'm just saying, between the pics comparing graphite to both space black and space grey, and the author's impressions, it's pretty clear to me that graphite is noticeably lighter than the space black.

the graphite looks like a shiny version of the aluminium space gray. It doesn’t look like it will match the link bracelet Especially the sides of the bracelet.

It kinda just hit me that may they stuck with Space Black for the Hermes bands simply because they had leftover straps with space black ends to sell through. Who knows???

This kinda pisses me off as someone who just bought an Hermes Single Tour in Space Black, gives me almost no reason to upgrade now that I know my $356 watch band will be virtually useless

It’s purely speculation. No idea if it has any truth to it.

I wouldn’t get too upset over a guess by a random stranger on the Internet. 😎

I agree for now, but it seems unlikely that Apple would just change the name when the colour is the exact same

There’s increasing evidence that the Graphite is slightly lighter than Space Black - how much so remains to be seen.

Another theory is that Apple is differentiating the Edition watches (Titanium and Hermes) by making Space Black exclusive to them.

This might be the case going forward, will suck for my wallet, but Space Blacl Stainless Steel is by far my favorite watch casing. I have the series 5, so I wont be dropping $1399+ for a 6. I will spend the extra money for the Space Black going forward whenever I decide to upgrade as long as it is available in some capacity.

SBSS has been a favorite as well but I’ll learn to be happy with something else rather than spend $1300 on the Hermes model.

I think the contrast actually gives Combination of the link band and watch more character. I used to pair my black stainless link band with my regular 316L stainless watch, and it looked really good.

I think the Milanese loop this year is of a lighter graphite gray PVD than the Milanese loop from last few years with the DLC black

My partner just picked up a graphite SS and it's a very shiny and a nice colour

It's a shade somewhere between the silver and space black SS. Looks gold in certain angles and black in others. I like it a lot.

You’d think if that were the intention then they’d have made the ‘new’ colour, e.g. the graphite, exclusive to Hermes. As it is there will be many previous gen SBSS Apple Watches that are not Hermes on people’s wrists.

Long video (in Chinese) showing off the Graphite model:

Honestly I’m loving the Graphite more and more. Looks so premium.

(That video was Japanese, btw...)

Graphite does look good. The only negative from my perspective is that there isn’t (currently) a Graphite Link bracelet. I love the Link band...

I think it will still look good on the SB Link bracelet. The bracelet is not fully black, it is close to the Graphite color already.

Just received it! I matches with my space gray iPhone X and I guess also with next iPhone versions based on stainless steel. It will probably line up with the colors of the new iPhone 12.
