I am currently subscribing to the Ubisoft + game service so I got early access to the new Star Wars game. Played an hour or so yesterday so still in sort of that tutorial aspect of the game. It has been mentioned in YouTube reviews, but man the character model looks so bizarre. Not sure why they did not just map the actresses face and stick with that. First thing I noticed when walking around a little was all the NPC's are like unmovable statues, which really hurts the feeling of an open world game. Bad writing so far, and this I expected. Just convenient things and people in convenient places to push the story forward without actually trying to be realistic about anything. Again just barely into the game, I am curious to explore once the game opens up to see what they have really done to be as immersive as they make it sound like in some of the reviews that were positive about the game.

I've only seen videos/screens and the picture of the original actress posted for comparison and the character model reeks of too much art direction for sure. It's also possible that the still image of their character might look acceptable but that facial animation distorts it just enough to appear really rather unattractive (a common issue).

From the looks of it they wanted an unconventional look still in line with the overall Han Solo vibe - and went a bit off the rails. Really just looking at the chick from Rogue One should have given them all the leads in how to develop their own character for this universe and not get the fans aggravated. ;)

I saw this and am interested. All the NPCs are statues, what the hell? 🤔
Yes, they cannot be moved. When you compare walking through any crowded area in any Assassins Creed game people move or are shoved out of the way or the character stumbles going through. Same with GTA and Red Dead, everything feels fluid moving through crowds, this is just people who are immovable objects which.

I think it is more they are trying to get away from having an attractive female lead because that is bad now. If you are going to have someone play the part and do the voice active as well as mapping face and body then get the actor that fits. This is not new and has been done for many many years. I heard in one video that they made some claim that it was difficult to match a face with the model,

which is complete garbage as they do it all the time, really really well

Even back in the PS3 days they did it well, I think of Force Unleashed. Character looked just like the actor that played him.

Fans get aggravated when they are trying to make statements or push agendas in these stories rather then just tell a good story and don't worry about all the buzz words that need to be shoehorned into every story. Now I don't get that feeling with this game outside of them just not wanting to have an attractive lead character for whatever reason, and really that is the big complaint I see about the game in that regard. The rest of the negative reviews I am leaning more towards the more I play. The game so far is just very mediocre which is what Ubisoft has been putting out for the last number of years so they are doing what they do. A potential interesting mechanic is as you work with different crime syndicates you get trust or distrust with them, which could lead to some interesting elements in the game but will have to wait and see how it turns out.

I woke up to a notification on YouTube from a gaming channel I subscribe to that it is "the worst game he's played in 2024" ... bad design, bad mission design, and mind-numbingly bad stealth mechanics (in a stealth game that is unforgivable). I can't believe in 2024 you have missions that require not triggering alarms - but a single guard spotting you means every guard is instantly alerted, and so on.

For $70?!?! No thanks. I'll wait until it is under $10 within 6 months.

I would not say it is terrible, but they do spot you pretty easily and you don't have an indicator like you would in Assassins Creed, at least one that I find as easy to catch and avoid. Might just be getting used to this games mechanics. Definitely some really janky stuff through going over rough terrain or rocks. Some rocks you can climb up onto, but then another that is like the same height you can't.

I don't own either but consensus is Black Myth Wukong is a better game to spend money on than Star Wars Outlaws.
I don't know the Black Myth Wukong game, but the more I play Outlaws the more mediocre it is. I am riding my speeder bike to some mission, I see some small home or farm being attacked. I get a radio plea for help so I go help. Then I somehow engage in a scene where a mother is asking my characters advice if she should go join the Empire in the city or stay at home. All the while pirates are shooting lasers and throwing grenades my way, but the NPC's take no notice of that, they have more important things to do like discuss if the daughter should move out or not. This is what I was expecting from a Ubisoft game. Basic story that I would have enjoyed when I was 15, but as an adult it is just silly and dumb. I don't think I will finish the game, when my monthly subscription is up with. Ubisoft I will be cancelling and trying out the Xbox option with a much bigger library for the same price.

I see it's on it's (first) Steam sale? $52.49. Hey I see people moving in the trailer. Looks to have great atmosphere. Are NPCs still statues in the game?? If that persists, I'll never play it. If it changes I'm with @txa1265, maybe when it's $10. 🤔

Heard mostly negative things about this game and the game company behind it. Think it launched on Steam this week and capped out around 700 concurrent players which is horrendously bad.

Edit: Correction around 800 players.

Still terrible numbers, considering games like Wukong and such hit hundreds of thousands to millions of concurrent players.

I'm not defending it but to be fair it was released three months ago on Ubisoft and Epic so not surprising Steam numbers are low. Despite being considered as a failure it has sold 1 million copies. Black Myth lost 1 million players on Steam during its first week and another million the following month so player count went down from 2.4 million to 400,000 in one month and now after three months it's down to 40-89 thousand.

Black Myth had more than 2.4 million concurrent players as it also released on multiple platforms similar to Outlaws. That was just 2.4 million on Steam. As you know, 1M sales across multiple platforms isn’t the same as 2.4 on just steam. 1M isn’t enough to break even unfortunately.

It’s a single player game, likely after finishing it though 2.4M stopped playing so the drop in players is expected as of any single player.

I love it when in the middle of a battle, a companion tells me there is something bothering them, you know, besides imminent death and could I talk when I have a moment (Starfield). 😐 🤣

Are NPCs still statues?
