I hooked up with. someone on Steam marked as "developer". He/She offered suggestions, I tried them nothing worked, will not be purchasing this game at this point in time. You can see the interaction here:

It is a very bland Ubisoft game. The Jedi Survivor games is much more fun, though a really stupid story. If you want an enjoyable Ubisoft game I was pleasantly surprised by Assassins Creed Shadows. Still lacking in many ways compared to the golden years of Assassins Creed games, but the world looks great and the 2 characters you can play are unique and actually fun.
Thanks for your opinion. I do like the atmosphere, yet, I am holding off for now, especially due to the bug I saw in the Demo. Really glad I played the demo. I would have easily run over with my play time during the refund period on Steam, which I think is 2 hrs playtime, and time period of ownership, 1 or 2 weeks.

I had a quick mess around with it this evening and of course, I couldn't find a grappling hook that I could use. The irony. If you can remember where this is one off hand I'll go and check both the controller and keyboard commands.

EDIT: I see it in your post. I'll see if I can duplicate tomorrow.

The grappling hook isn't free use, you have to have the contact icon show up on the branch/hook thingy first. It is also distance specific, so if it is too high up you cannot use it (which is dumb).

Yes I remember that too - some spots it was too high and it was only useful for coming down, not for going up.

Found somewhere. On controller, press the right stick. On keyboard, press E to connect, then W to climb.

Typhoon's Rock on Toshara is where I went, but there is another grapple point also at Typhoon Rock which is too high and is for coming down only. i.e., you can see it but cannot use it.

30 Apr25- No, the NPCs are not statues. 😜 There is a StarWars Outlaws Demo on Steam for the playing, it gives you 3 hrs of playtime. I'm trying to figure out if I want this game. Anyone currently playing? Maybe you could help me with my Grapple Hook problem, keep reading.

Star Wars Outlaws The game itself is marked down to $35 (from $70) on Steam till 5May. If you played it, would you recommend it? I'm trying out the free demo.

Don't install this on mechanical hard drive.
Note: Got a warning, you installed this game on a hard drive (vs an SSD), "you may get erratic behavior and faults". I had difficulty getting the ship landed. Started above Tatooine, got no instructions on how to land, a message said hit V to scan, I did, then X popped up to tell ship to land. It started heading in, landed after taking forever, talked with Sheriff, after initial encounter, the sheriff would not talk to me. If I tried to return to my ship, I got a leaving quest area message and a countdown. If I tried to call my speeder I was in a "no speeder zone". I was stuck.

Reinstalled the game on a M.2 drive, and on Demo launch I got all sorts of info that was not there the first time. Ship went right into land, everything seems to work.

The Demo
I'm playing the Demo, nice graphics, nice atmosphere, outstanding Tatooine. You have a critter as a companion. Playing on PC, but...

The Damn Grapple Hook
However, I'm on the first mission, at a place here I believe a grapple hook is required, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use the grappling hook.
  • Do I have a grappling hook on me from the start or do I have to find one to get it?
  • I'm on the First Mission "The Heavy" and I'm following a guy named Joss. I've reached a point where I think I need a grapple hook. I see a place high up on the side of a cliff, a metal beam when I look there, a grapple like icon appears on it.
  • However in my equipment slot "U", I don't see a choice for grapple hook.
  • Do you come with a hook, or have to find one in the game to get it?
  • If I have one, I have no idea how to equip it and use it.
  • Several articles on line talk about grapple hooks, but NONE of them speak of how to equip the damn thing or to throw it.
  • Inventory controls show: grapple hook C- release E,Q to extend or reel in. Equip?? Throw??
I'm not buying this damn game until I figure this out. 😛

In the game you have what look like branches etc or metal poles sticking out, if you look at them right a character will appear over them and it should tell you what to press to use the grappling hook, which ion the demo is equipped by default. If that helps?

I appreciate the help, but when looking at the grapple point, and see the grapple icon appear, E does nothing. The guy on Steam calling himself a "developer" for the game, gave me some suggestions (Steam Link in previous post), I tried them and nothing on my install of the Demo, gets my grapple hook to work. It's kind of necessarily. If I had purchased the game, and had overran my refund time trying to get it to work, I'd be pissed right now. As it is, I was willing to give it a shot, but not if it's acting up for me. My understanding is this kind of glitch breaks progress in the game...online I noticed quite a few comments about grapple hook issues, and other problems. :(

That is weird, and yes without the grappling hook you are kind of stuck in the game, it is needed as it’s used quite a lot to get to places.
Just as well it’s only the demo you are trying, sorry you can’t get it working. Perhaps you should report it to Valve and Ubisoft, ask for another go on the Demo to see if you can get it working?

Yeah I don't know if you have one, but you can also see if a controller gives you the same issue. Maybe the demo is screwed up.

I have run a file validation check, I might uninstall and reinstall the demo, but the sale ends today, will not pay the full asking price, so I think I’ll wait for the next sale.

I do have a controller I could hook up, which would be an excellent troubleshooting technique, but I’m not a fan of console controllers, so I would not use it to play the game. It irritates me that a basic control like this that if not working, breaks the game, is not working and I’ve tried it many times at this location: passed the crashed speeder, climb a few rocks, see a beam laying on the ground, and up on the side of a cliff is a vertical I beam, and at at the top of that, there is horizontal pole sticking out from the cliff. When I look at it, an icon that looks like a grapple hook appears over it. Hit E, nothing, hit every key on the keyboard, nothing, remapping the key does not help either. 😐 Will wait for the next sale.

So, I have noticed that at a certain distance from the grapple point, when looking at it, the grapple icon does not appear, but when I stand under the target, the icon does appear, which would signify to me that I’m in range to use the grapple hook, an accurate description?

Can you see the grapple icon, but not be in range to use the hook? At this location, I’m standing in a crevice with the cliff in front of me (at the bottom of the cliff) and high rocks I can’t climb on my left and my right. I looked around to see if there might be another path to get a little higher (closer to the grapple point) to use the hook, but I’ve not found one. 🤔

Have you tried jumping up when you are the closest to it the hit E key.worth a try.

It has been a while since I played Outlaws, I don't remember any issues but then I also use a PS4 controller to play the PC or cloud version in a browser. Game is pretty forgettable so I don't even remember using a grapple.

At Typhoon Rock's lower grapple point, yes the icon shows and the hook point is highlighted when using Nix's look function. (Shows R3 or E prompts depending on kb/controller).

At the higher grapple point, no the icon did not show but yes the hook point is still highlighted using Nix's look function. No R3/E.

Well it's a Ubisoft game, so they are likely too busy to fix it dealing with Tencent buying then up due releasing crap games and having a worse attitude...

Q-6

To be fair, they did a TON of work on this on, post-release. Sure, work that should have happened prior to release, but still, I was impressed to see how much effort they put in.

Hmm, Nix's Look function... Maybe for next time, I thought the sale was through the 5th, but it's over... 🙄

It'll be on sale again - worth waiting for IMO.
The games I’ll pay $70 are few and far between. So far 1, Starfield and I’m glad I played it for the exposure and experience, yet disappointed in it. The stellar games I repeat play, and I have no urge to return to it. That’s all I’ll say here, As I said plenty in the Starfield thread. 😉

I jump back and forth between Xbox and Ubisoft subscriptions. Around $20 CDN a month, lets me play some of new games that come out and gives me access to other games I want to play. When I don't want them I just cancel. This lets me play a new game like Outlaws or Shadows without dropping the price of a new game. Neither of them are games I would go back to after finishing. Outlaws I stopped part of the way through as it is boring and just not a good game.

I keep saying it has a good StarWars atmosphere, but environment will only take you so far as I discovered with Avatar Frontiers. 🤔

Fair enough, however I dont want to support the likes of Ubisoft until they change their ways. I prefer to support AA and indie devs who are a lot more honest & transparent.

I will never pay $70 for a game. There are so many good titles on the market for a fraction such as the recently released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Produced by a small team of passionate developers that is completely embarrassing AAA priced at just $50.

AAA wants to push prices to $80 if not more. Frankly that's their problem as they are top heavy, bloated and mostly completely disconnected from the players hence why many AAA are seeing flop after flop with multi hundred million USD budgets.

All these studios & publishers will simply, fail, go away or be forced to change as their product continuously fails to sell in volume and they continue to burn money, stockholder confidence, worse player support. In the real world I look to get value for money and fully expect the item to meet the description.

The digital realm is no different; broken releases get refunded, games loaded with forced political agendas & designed by committees with excel checkboxes simply ignored. I'm an a long-time gamer same as you. What I see now is many are utterly saturated & sick of how they as the end customer are being treated. They are voting with their wallets as is the only solution. Studios & Publishers dont wake up, well Tencent beckons...

I find it all pretty bland. They really need a better company to come along and take a risk creating something creative and unique. If someone out even a quarter of the effort RockStar does for their games, we would have an amazing Star Wars game that you would want to play over and over again.
