I was just telling a related story to someone today:

My first experience with SW merchandise:

When SW came out, I was a kid, and back then digital watches (not ipods) were the hot new thing. OMG it had *glowing* red numbers instead of a boring hour/minute hands. No one had one.

Then I remember, on the playground, this kid named "David" showed up with a digital watch with glowing numbers. When we took a close look, it was absolutely unbelievable: it was a DARTH VADER-digital watch. . . we were so envious!

At the shy young age of 6 or 7 we were already materialistic for movie-branded high-tech.

what will it be called??? The NerdPod???

please Apple, don't associate yourself with this Star Wars crap..!

Hey, lighten up! Lucas and Jobs go way back-- Lucas sold Pixar to Jobs, for example. There are still a million ties between Pixar and Lucas-- here's an article about a recent one. And if you watch the "making of" documentaries on the prequel dvds, you'll see that EVERYONE at Lucasfilm who has a notebook has a powerbook. I think there's a special relationship between Lucasfilm and Apple and that a Star Wars tie is appropriate.

Whats next a black iPod with in large friendly letters 'Don't Panic' on it???

and a G5 running of a cup of tea with cake ;-)

Marvin OS, wich gives all external drives a death wish? ;-)

Don't forget the nerdPod mini! :D

I think this is getting a little carried away, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what the darn thing looks like, if this rumor is true at all...

These will be prizes, not something you can buy. You will probably never be able to buy one.

This makes them collectable. This makes them valuable.

Better than licensing iTunes to Motorolla for a phone or two, or the whole iPod to HP. Bring it on I say.

Anyway, couldn't any old company 'pretty-up' an iPod or add a custom case/cover after production? I am sure it would be possible without Apple...

It should come with hackneyed dialogue inscribed on the back and be pre-filled with soundbytes of god-awful acting. That way, it will be just like Episodes I-III.

Since I'm a big Star Wars fan I would love to have one, but it better be a REALLY limited number just for this contest. The U2 iPod has been available too long. It's not special if it's not limited.

I always thought the iPods already looked like the coolest Stormtrooper accessory! :p

The Death Star as the scroll wheel does kinda sound cool... ;)

<sarcasm> Apple will just re-use the U2 ipods as "Sith" iPods - same color scheme and all red/black - this was amazing foresight by Apple. </sarcasm>

I don't really have an issue tying the biggest music player in history with the biggest movie franchise in history.

Prediction: They will come in black and white. And will have George Lucas's signature along with other celebrity signatures perhaps.

oooo, how about a reversed display (white on black background) for the black ones!

Parody Predictions:

The Black ones will only work on Windows PC's, the Whites: only on Macs.

They will come with bluetooth and the ability to auto-discover each other. They will vibrate in the presence of opposite colored iPods so you know there's a distrubance in the Force nearby.

They will be video capable with color screens, and will come with abreviated versions of the original trilogy.

You will be able to pick up the Star Wars iPods from the floor easily if you drop them, without bending over.

A special Planet of Endor version will have a brown furry iPod sock included.

bahahahaha!@!!!!

I think there's a 100% probability you're right. :-D

oh god, oh no, oh no. Please, no apple. You know that cool image you have? That is nearly universal? That lets your computers be cool beyond the population of decidedly uncool computer geeks? Yeah, the kind of cool that doesn't make people go... ugh, the only people who think computers and gadgets are cool is people who are still obsessed with star wars.

Dont' do it.

It's just a limited edition of 100 iPods...hardly a blip on the radar.

Yeah... it would be stupid to partner with a franchise that's grossed over $3.5 Billion Dollars in just 5 movies. Apple is moronic.

I have a idea for a iPod SE-Invader Zim iPod SE-well it has a cult follwing, and is my fav. TV show, the DVD's and action figures are proving popular (and the creator Jhonen Vasquez also does comics) and there is a iPod mini in green-so the iPod SE could use that color, and it'd be easier to do (as Star trek , batman, etc would involve more costly licenesing fees)

Doom!
Dooom!
Doooom!

I'd actualy go for a Zim case, though springing the bucks for a ZimPod might not happen. [Edit= FleshPod iPod... Humm- ok I'd spring for it.]

Just think, next will be the Eddie Bauer Edition. Isn't there an Eddie Bauer edition of everything.;)

[Edit]Foolish Earthlings, resist not the branded iPod!

lol I would TOTALLY buy an Invader Zim ipod!! That's something I can see going for $1k+ on ebay some day!! ;)

With the exception of IZ ipods, thanks Apple, what about competing with the Dorthan offerings that are finally going into production??!! What about updating the PM or iMac?? What about hurrying up with Tiger?! NO MORE IPODS!!! YOU ARE A COMPUTER COMPANY NOT A FAD FACTORY!!!

This discussion is very interesting. A lot of good ideas on al sides. Now to wait and see what Apple actually ends up doping.

It says there are only going to be one hundred of these. None of you will ever see one except on a web site, so quit moaning and groaning about it.

I am usualy wrong when I debunk rumors, but dosn't some of the language seem a little odd on the printed insert.
skittles_huntforgrievous_gameticket_2005.jpg

Grand prize- ok, but First Level Prize, and Second Level Prize-, isn't it usualy just stated as Frist Prize, Second Prize, etc... sans 'level'. Mars (The Company that owns Skittles) dosn't use that language in other contests. See here for an example.

Secondarily, it may not be a partnership with Apple. A modified consumer product, such as a car or doll, can be offered as long as the company that is giving the prize away doesn’t infer that there is a partnership. Apple would have no say as to what happens to their product once it is purchased by another entity

Lastly, Star Wars Geeks, Trekers/ies, LOTR Freaks, etc.. will always-mod things. I am sure that some of us Apple Cult members have already started to Photoshop iPods and PowerBooks into movie shots. Heck, I’ll bet there are people that are going to be looking for iPods in the movie.

Hey, if any of the Lucas Ranch people are reading this, just insert the U2 iPod onto young Darth’s belt.

Edit: Sorry if I missed any fanatical groups or offended anybody. Belong to the Cult of Apple, Know that there is only Apple, and Jobs is the Profit.
