IMO this will only happen more and more.
That is the nature of fads.... and the iPod is a fad.
That is made evident by the way people talk about it right now.
Someof the main reasons everyone is lining up to get one is "because they are cool" and they have a great "image". Those statements have fad written all over them.
My prediction is the iPOD craze will slow down to a trickle of sales by the the end of 2006. Companies always dilute the brand of a product by making all kinds of silly branded items( like Apple is starting to do with the iPODs) once they start forcasting the tapering off of sales. And they do it trying to keep up the unit sales numbers which only causes the fad to die earlier.
You may disagree with me about the demise of the iPOD but I say watch and see.
