I recently said in another post more and more people seem to be getting them recently. In the last 2 or 3 months my wife, parents, siblings and a few friend shave bought them. Im seeing more in the wild too! At least now I have people I can send sketches too!

People make fun of all the band choices but that is what makes people like the watch so much. Choices... you first think of women liking color choices to match, but guys like to match as well. Belt and watch and shoes are a good example.

Mocking Apple for all the bands and they cost $49 or higher while Apple is maintaining 95% margins on the sports bands makes it an obvious duh moment for more colors.

I have purchased several off brands and end up buying apples for slightly better quality.

I wouldn't say I see them a lot but I do see them fairly often (I'm in central IL). Seem to notice them mostly on waiters/waitresses.

I've been holding off for the 2nd gen, as I assume a lot of people are. 2nd gen hardware plus the performance enhancements in watchOS 3 should help a LOT. Wouldn't be surprised if sales take off once it's released.

I've seen two. Whether they still own or wear them, I don't know. They may well have been returned.
What an odd comment to make. You just assume that every Apple Watch you've seen up to this point has since been returned? Just because you don't like the Apple Watch you assume random strangers wearing them don't either? That's a little presumptuous don't you think?

He posts everywhere about his hatred for the Apple Watch and wants Apple to quit making it. Why? Who knows the motivation. You got to give him credit for his incessant desire. If he saw 100 of them, be wouldn't say that and he has to add the negative part to fit his mantra.

Has anyone seen any editions? Seems to be the majority is the sports and stainless steel models.

Not seen any but I'm thinking of getting my stainless gold plated. Think the gold looks great but I could never afford to spend £10000 or whatever it is on a watch!!

I'm seeing several every day now.

Far, far more in airports. I used my watch to get through security and board a couple of flights this week. Far safer and easier than messing about with a phone. No chance of dropping it on those lovely polished marble floors that airports seem to like.

Tide has definitely turned.

You put your boarding pass in Wallet and then access it on your watch, easy peasy!
Wow.

I'm eager to use this on my next trip.

My wife will be impressed with this boarding pass ability.

Already, we can lock and unlock our front door at home automatically.

Sheer magic.

In my area I go nowhere now without seeing them, kids working in Target even lol. S. Florida has a lot of apple users though, we have 8 Apple Stores in a 50 mile radius.

I've had a watch for over a year, travel weekly and only just started using it in airports. Before that I was always printing paper at the kiosk or asking the bag drop guy/gal to print me some paper.

But the watch works great. Don't know why I waited so long to try it.

As of the end of the spring semester at the university where I teach, I had only seen three others, all students. (I'm off for the summer, so I can't speak concerning the summer classes.) But in the last month or so, people have noticed me wearing my AW much more often.

I noticed a guy wearing one at the final table during a World Series of Poker event. It surprised me; the WSOP has very specific rules about no phones out at the table because of the cheating possibilities. Obviously. they haven't addressed smart watches yet.

It doesn't surprise people as much as it used to when I use Apple Pay with my watch, although it still gets a reaction now and then.

Yeah, I actually don't use the fitness aspect at all, either.

Being an owner of several Swiss watches, I feel the opposite about round smartwatches. I think they're a bit too uncanny valley looking (if it were possible to apply that to watches, rather than people,) or maybe it's that they're trying too hard to look like a "nice" watch, as in the department store variety. The Apple Watch looks best with the screen off, IMO.

In regards to seeing them, I still see them all the time in Portland and LA. When I was in Hawaii recently, I was surprised how many resort and waterpark workers were wearing smartwatches, and a lot of them were Apple. It must be a way for them to skirt rules about using a cell phone on the job, I'd guess.

Check the time, see who's calling/texting and sometimes responding. That's essentially the whole point, and I find it very useful.

To me, the "killer app" of the watch is having Siri always at the ready, wherever you are and whatever you're doing. I like dictating random notes to myself -- the watch can't take a "note" (as it doesn't have the Notes app) but what I do is say "Hey Siri, tell (my name) blah blah blah", and it sends me a text with that message.

I was particularly inspired to do this when I watched (no pun intended) the "welcome" video regarding Siri -- it showed someone saying "Hey Siri, call Mom" while he/she was doing something else. I really think this ability takes us one step closer to having our brains connected directly to the internet :)

You don't need the notes app to do what you want to do and still have it create a note.

On your iPhone in the reminders app, create a notes list. Then, you can tell Siri - "Add blah blah blah to the Notes list"

Your idea works as well, but this adds right to your reminders app without being a reminder but a notes.

I use mine during travel as well, and it works great. I've actually assembled a "travel face" that I switch to when travelling! It's basically the Modular face with my airline app using the large center portion, date in the upper left corner, and calendar, local temp, and home time zone time across the 3 complications at the bottom.

The airline app gets updated constantly through the phone and lets me know immediately of any flight delays or gate changes. Of course, you should have (and be logged in) to the airline app on your phone (American is one of the best IMHO).

Some airline apps allow you to see your boarding pass, but I think the best way is through the Wallet app. Once you check in through the app on your phone, you can add the Boarding Pass to your wallet on your phone. It will be reproduced in the Wallet app on the watch. If you have your Notifications set right, at the time you board there will be a notification on the watch where you can swipe down, touch the wallet icon, and your boarding pass will show (or you can access the wallet app manually).

Keep in mind that when going through security, the TSA does not have the proper downward-facing scanners to scan your watch. You will have to present your phone and place it face down with the boarding pass showing in order to be cleared. Also, note that likewise, not all airlines have a downward-facing scanner to scan your watch. You'll have to use your phone there too.

I don't know that this is a 'killer app' for the watch specifically. I can also do this with my phone, no matter where it is. In my pocket, on a desk across the room, it doesn't matter. Having it always available on my wrist would only be a benefit when I'm away from the phone, and the way the watch is set up currently, that's not very often.

Exactly. The watch is a little ahead of its time. At present, I find the phone much easier to use in most cases when I travel. I've also found that to be true with Pay as well, as I find that I usually have something in my hand I have to put down, that makes using two hands to confirm Pay on the watch more difficult than just doing it one handed with the phone.

I'm sure things will improve as the world adapts to the new technology. But they're going to have to sell a lot more smartwatches before it makes financial sense to upgrade 100% of the infrastructure to support them. And as long as people are traveling with their phones, there's no real need to do it, since it doesn't really save any time otherwise.

Went to Disneyland last weekend. Here's the rough breakdown of what I observed:
  • Fitbit: 35%
  • Nothing/Mechanical Watch: 35%
  • Apple Watch: 25%
  • Android Wear: 5%
There's probably a large overlap between the target audience for both AW and an expensive theme park, but it was kind of mind blowing how many there were everywhere. Fitbit still has a strong hold in the market (mostly the lower-cost units).

I haven't seen a ton in the wild yet, and was reading through this thread just now wondering if I'm oblivious or what, and what do ya know - I look up at the TV and there's one! Caught one on Jim Gaffigan in his show. Funny timing.

A bunch of my friends have them, but they're really not representative of the general population, I think.

Hmm, I couldn't get this to work. In the iPhone reminders app I created a "list", not a "notes list" -- I didn't see any way of creating a "notes list"... I even named one of my test lists "Notes", to see if that's what you had meant. In all of the cases, when I told Siri exactly what you mentioned, she referred to and created notes in the Notes app, not the Reminders app.

Be sure you are on the topmost page of the Reminders app when you create the "Notes" list -- swipe down from the top to get there. I now have three lists: "Scheduled", "Reminders", and "Shopping". I can tell Siri "Add milk to the shopping list" from my watch.
