Not sure I understand why you've quoted me.

My point was simply that a space black sport doesn't exist.
I just assumed he meant space black with black sport band. Seeing a lot of those was surprising to me, so it makes more sense that he meant space gray.

Nicho, I wasn't aware that there were rules about how to respond to a quote when posting. I hate when I see a huge quote and can't find the response because it's buried at the bottom so I always put my response above what I am responding to. If my method of response is against the rules, however, please point out where in the forum rules it tells me how to respond to a post.

It's not against the rules but nor is it great etiquette. Does your browser not automatically collapse long quotes? Mine does :

You're absolutely right, my opinion on minimum wage jobs has nothing to do with whether it's in the US or Canada. It's not as if Canadian minimum wage is that much higher than in the US, the average being around $11 CAN depending on where you live, or about $8.50 US. So that's still only about $23k CAN a year, or $18,000/year US. And, typically because of the weak Canadian dollar, things tend to be more expensive in general in Canada. The 38mm Watch Sport for instance retails for $399 at the Canadian Apple Store compared to the $299 price tag you'll find it at in the US.

...

So I stand by everything I've written.

i don't disagree with what you're saying, but i think your evidence is massively wonky.

initially you took the price paid to be US$399 and compared it to a US minimum wage of $16,000 - that's a massive difference upwards in price and downwards in minimum wage... ⅓ higher cost and over 10% lower wages. that's basically making it out to be 50% more expensive relatively than it is.

plus when you say "things tend to be more expensive in general in Canada", the apple watch isn't a great example. 299 * 4/3 = 399. 18,000 * 4/3... well that's 24,000 - so the difference isn't as dramatic.

that aside, i think @IphoneIssues has summed it perfectly to say "there's no one minimum wage lifestyle" and clearly people on the one you describe should be considering much more important things. but it's definitely not always the case that just because someone is on minimum wage they are struggling.

Now, having stated all of that, I have also been very clear from my very first comment on the subject -- if someone earning minimum wage has a justifiable reason to buy an Watch, then that's fine. If they received the Watch as a gift, that's fine too.

I haven't weighed in on this discussion because it's irrelevant to my op and the intended purpose of this thread. But I just can't let statements like this go. You say these things as if everyone who is on the lower end of the pay scale has to justify everything they buy to you. You come across as if you see yourself as some grand arbiter of whether someone is responsible and worthy enough to spend their money on things like the Apple Watch. Perhaps you should go stand outside the Apple store and start asking to see the W-2's of everyone who walks through the door.

There, I said my bit. Now this entire discussion is not relevant to the topic I intended to discuss when starting this thread. Can I please ask that if you wish to continue discussing this you either do so in a new topic or over direct message?

People can spend their money on whatever they want, they can then complain all they want about it afterwards.

On topic:

Saw a few people jogging with the watches. Wonder if they were using that new Argus app.

Here I actually don't see any more day to day than I did at launch (although I did see a lot last summer)... Which means as more and more people buy them, for some the novelty seems to be wearing off and they're perhaps going back to wearing normal watches. Or it could be a switch to improving android phones, I guess (the new Samsung galaxy phones, Xiaomi's latest phones are really good) that's made them take them off and put them in the drawer.

Jogging? If they can't even afford a car they shouldn't be spending their money on an Apple Watch. I'll just assume that because they're jogging they don't have a car. :p

Rich people jog because having a car allows them more time in the day.

Poor people run to get it done quicker. Or don't do either because they're too busy walking everywhere. Obviously.

Still haven't seen one in the north east of England. Even in the Apple shops no one seems to be even looking at the watches.

It's funny, but my first smartwatch was the first Samsung Galaxy Gear. Had a Note 3 to go with it. If an Apple Watch was out at the time, I know it would've been better than the Gear. People here complain constantly about apps "sucking". Imagine what they'd say if they bought the gear and the store only had the same 14 apps it started with, a year later, LOL.

Some of them had on cheap running shoes. Like less than $50 cheap. There's no way they should've had those watches. Probably stole them. I should've called the police.

Since I was able to barely afford my Sport on my pauper's salary when they were on sale at Best Buy for $249 I have noticed more and more watches in the wild. I seem to notice it more since I got one both on TV and locally. I personally know at least 5 people who have one and love it! Heck, even one of the baristas at my local Starbucks has one and it's a stainless steel model, something tells me Mac128 wouldn't approve unless of course they have a "justifiable reason" for purchasing it. :)

It's funny how perspectives and times change (pardon the pun).

When the iPhone first came out i recall reading that most of the users were people with income closer to six figures than not. Then it proliferated and people thought it "wasn't fair" only those better off had them and we as taxpayers get to subsidize the cost of phones.

Buying a $750+ phone and then spending $100/mo for a voice/data/texting plan is not wise for someone making closer to minimum wage but, now, we've got welfare subsidies for smartphones.

iPhones/smartphones are still a luxury item and not a necessity. Need an alarm? Dirt cheap at Walmart. GPS for driving? Garmin for a one time payment of $100. Timers? Compass? Point and shoot camera? Can all be bought together for less than the cost of an iPhone. Yes. The iPhone replaces many devices but you pay for the convenience.

Was picking up my SBSS Link Bracelet at an Apple Store and there was a 10 year old kid that had an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and was wanting an Apple Watch. Glad the parents said no. Hell, I grew up happy with just a Game Boy.

So much misinformation here it's unbelievable. First of all, times haven't changed much, it's only been 9 years. Second of all, we don't have "welfare subsidies" for smartphones. Yes, we have the Lifeline program that provides cell phones to low income people. The Lifeline program was enacted by Ronald Reagan in 1984 and applied only to landlines at the time, of course. It has since been expanded to cover cell phones instead with technology evolving quite a bit since 1984, but certainly not high end smartphones. Taxpayers have never subsidized the cost of a $750 iPhone. That's a load of BS.

Thank you, WarHeadz! Wow, I was trying to figure out an appropriate way to respond to that post and just couldn't do it. Welfare subsidies? Is he freaking serious? If he isn't talking about the Lifeline program the only other possible thing I can think that he's referring to is when someone gets a subsidized phone with a 2 year contract or whatever. Heck, since they started offering Edge and Next, I don't even know why anyone would do that any more at this point. Definitely wouldn't call a phone subsidized because of a contract a "welfare subsidy" any more than I would a phone through the Lifeline program.

Anyway, to make this on topic I saw four more watches in the wild yesterday so they are definitely getting more out there. Two were on audience members on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, one was on a cashier at the local outlet mall and one was on someone I was playing team trivia against at the local sports bar last night. They are out there in both Sport and Stainless Steel form. What I want to know is has ANYONE seen someone wearing an Edition? I would love to see one of those suckers in the wild!

I've started to notice people wearing them on a few tv shows. Host of the Nightly Show has a Space Black and I saw on another episode that one of his contributors has a regular SS. I actually happened to be watching the show while typing this and I saw her wearing a black sport band with it.

I'm finding now that my eyes will often go to somebody's wrist to see if they've got one.

Good job Apple didn't launch a bum bag/fanny pack, right?

The last twelve months I've been doing exactly the same. I check almost everyone's wrists. Never gave a crap before.

I regularly see about 4-5 a day now. I actually see more women wearing them than men. I see more women with the AWS and a few guys wearing the AW. A lot of gold and rose gold sports for sure. I always ask people about them, too.

I've been getting these random mental cues to peek at somebody's wrist. It might sound crazy but it's like every time I do that, and I start looking around me, there's a 90% chance I see at least one.

Just got the cue while I was walking down a dark sidewalk outside a store and one guy was walking in my direction. Sure enough, the light hits his wrist and I see it reflect off his watch screen.

Looked like he had that Louis Vuitton strap too. Looks nice in person.

Saw a number of them on reporters during the coverage of the Republican National Convention.

Must come in extra handy today.

Im the only guy I know that has one but 5 agents in my office have them. It's pretty common where I am. Only two agents have android wear. That's more rare than an Apple Watch where I'm at.

I went to dinner with my wife in downtown Minneapolis and we sat outside with about 10 other tables and at least 5 tables had at least one Apple Watch. One table had both people wearing one. All in all, I've seen about 40-50 but more like 20-30 in the past month. Most while walking in the skyway. Was surprised to see 5+ out of 20 or so people and that was this past weekend.
