Getting a replacement because of this issue today. The background hiss in video is pretty overwhelming on the phone I have now.

Got a replacement today and I have the same static sound when recording. It's only noticeable if I record in a silent room or environment. Going to wait a few weeks to see if the new batches are better.

I somehow think they are all going to be this way. Its become more and more prevalent now from what ive seen on the forums. Hopefully Apple can put out some sort of software tweak in the future to help this out.

Yea I'm hoping they're able to. This is more of a hardware issue but somethings can be fixed or patched with a software update.

Got my replacement today, this one is week 38 as opposed to 36 for my first one. I would say it is better with background hiss in video but it still has the same sound character. As well the first couple of times I made a video there was a blast of static at the beginning, but that has not happened since.

There are some other unexpected perks with the new phone however; the display is practically perfectly consistent and the camera is better. As well reception and call quality are improved.

So all in all it's your typical iPhone lottery. I've actually come to love the adventure of iPhone time each year, but I live in a place with several stores so it's easy to pick and choose. If you didn't have that option there could be some real disappointment.

So I suppose I will be keeping this phone.

Maybe it's just me, but isn't there always going to be some sort of static noise when recording a video? Especially if you're listening to the video with max volume. My phone has static noise when the volume is maxed out, but if I set it to a volume I'd normally listen to it at, the noise is gone.

My issue and my friends that I posted in the other thread isn't the white noise but when the phone is under heavy load like downloading an app and you record a video you can hear odd beeps/clicks. I did two tests one which was recording when not under heavy load and you can hear the white noise which is fine but for the second I set garage band to download and did a recording and you can hear the phone make odd noises and interference.

And how often do you download big GB file size apps and record video, is this a common thing you do? I don't think in 8 years of owning an iPhone Ive ever once downloaded apps while recording videos in silence to hear a noise, but thats just me...

Not being a super noob but I have he same issue should I make an appointment and have them order me a new one?

Jet black plus 128gb.. I'm sure it'll be ages but they can still order me a new one and I won't lose this phone till they bring the new one right?

At&t JB+

Bought via Apple app.

Others have recorded outside with children playing and screaming and you can still hear the noise on the video, it's just easier to demonstrate and show the extent of the problem by filming in a silent room. You have no way of knowing when your phone's CPU usage might be high, it could be downloading updates in the background for e.g and if you happen to be recording it would ruin your audio.

I think the majority of replacements have had the same problem. Some have been quieter but still have an issue when recording video.

Very good point. However, I my daughter's iPhone 6 Plus, my wife's iPhone 7 Plus, and my iPhone 6s Plus do not make the static/crackling sound that my iPhone 7 Plus makes when running Geekbench 4 and Speedtest. Granted, I hear it only when I put my ear to the back of the device. But the concern of whether a device that makes such noise is faulty is still valid. To date I have not read or heard an authoritative opinion on the subject. If someone at Apple were to offer me an iPhone 7 Plus just like mine, except for the static/crackling noise, I would spend the time and effort involved in the exchange process.

Also the sound could be more pronounced at full volume as now we have dual speakers and it can be heard more clearly. If you cover the top speaker, you don't hear it that much

Every device I have has the same white noise sound when recording in a silent room, iPad Pro, Nexus 6P, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s. Try it yourself

I just tried a 6S+ and a 6 and neither one of them has the white noise sound...

I recently came back from the apple store to get it looked over and I was told all 7 devices have this static noise in the background. The person mentioned it was because of the new and improved mic, yeah right.

My 7 plus does it sometimes, other times not. Most of the time I don't hear it or care. I have no idea if my old iphones did it, as I never paid attention. Frankly if I'm recording video in a quiet room and it really matters to me, it wouldn't be tough to pull the audio track out and make it truly silent later...if I cared.

My iPad Air 2 has white noise of course but I don't hear any high pitch static sound that I get from the 7plus

So just received my replacement and it is doing the same thing as the original.

Man that sucks, mine is so freaking loud when recording videos-- like an ocean is behind it or something.
[doublepost=1475089012][/doublepost]I wonder if there is even a point in returning mine.

And on top of it, the screen is more yellow. My original only had the video issue so I contacted apple and I'm sending the replacement back.

Did you do this over the phone..? What number do you call to have it swapped out or is it better for me to go to a local store

I initiated the original replacement through Apple chat. They assigned me a senior advisor who I have been working with. He gave me his email and phone number. When i received the replacement today, I checked for issues and emailed him telling him I was still having the same issues plus now a yellow screen. He said to send the replacement back to Apple.
