for the commodity reason. Since it took so long to process the item, the phone now is not worth what it was worth before. If they sell it wholesale, they cannot even make the 200$ now. So they rather pay a few dollars for shipping and return it back to me, than loosing 30-40$ on the phone assuming that they have to pay me the real value of a phone in good condition as originally quoted.(200$). (Thank you for asking that, I had not thought of it)

Yes, but like you said above you can sell it for around $300 so why cant they sell it instead and pocket the $80-100 profit?

They cannot sell it for 300. They probably sell it wholesale. It takes up to 14 days to get the phone back. That would be exactly 1 month without the phone. By the time i get it back i will see what to do and the price i can sell it for. I just hope that the phone is in the same condition as when i sent it in.

I know some smart ass will come and say, oh your phone must have been in bad conditions etc.
OK I'll bite
Your phone was in bad conditions, etc

There 6 billion opinions in this world. But if this is a contract, this has certainly been poorly written, and it may lead to false interpretation.

Can't be too poorly written as you seem to be the only one on this thread who had misinterpreted it

Here is what I was about to post:

I sent my 4S on Monday and have not had a response from Amazon. I just checked my account and they said they are processing it. I checked the "good" condition, although it was in almost pristine condition but I did not want a problem. I also checked the return the phone option as it does not make sense to sell it at a certain point. They quoted me $344. I listed it on CL a few days before I sent it to Amazon and the only response I received was from an obvious scammer (wanted me to send him the phone and he would pay me via paypal). So there does not seem to be a huge demand in my area for the 4S.

I am interested to see what happens. OP does have some good points. If people check the box to let Amazon pay them a lesser amount, Amazon can pay the lesser amounts out as they get flooded with the phones.

If Amazon buys my phone for the $344, I will be thrilled.

New info - as I was typing this, I checked my account and it switched from processing to Gift Card Deposited -$405!!!!!! I love you Amazon!!!:D

I have now used eBay instant sale twice.

First time was when the new Ipad was released. It took 5 days from the time of acceptance to the time I had money in my paypal account which matched my accepted price.

I again used the service to sell qty 2 at&t iPhone 4 32gb phones in. It took 11 days from time of acceptance to the time I had money in my papal account which matched my accepted price. (Increase in duration was due to accepting the price prior to the iPhone 5 launch and not sending the devices in until I received my new phones).

All in all I would highly suggest ebay instant sale. Not only are the prices on average higher compared to other services (dependent on when you accept the offer) but no paypal fees are associated with the transactions. Everything on the website is very clear and prompt emails are sent when progress occurs.

So you had a bad experience. Most of us had very good experiences with eBay and Amazon. You're like the one bad review on Yelp for an awesome restaurant. When a hundred people say something is good, and one person says it's bad, it's probably pretty good.

I shipped my AT&T 16GB black to amazon on 9/25 and just got $260 credit today, 10 days.

I selected "like new" and return to me if not qualify as new.

Check out game stops' trade in plan. Done right in the store. Cash, or they sweeten the offer if you take store credit.

Sent two iPhones for trade-in to Amazon a few days ago. An old black 16 gb 3GS which I accurately described as good, and a white 64 gb AT&T 4S which I accurately described as like new. They quoted $102 and $450 respectively, subject to review. Today they credited $552 to my account. Absolutely painless. Excellent service from Amazon, as usual.

Think I'll put some of that to good use by buying a 256 gb Samsung 830 SSD for my MBP from them. :)

I have no problem with ebay instant sale. I sold my 2 iphone 4s 16g AT&T $300 each to ebay instant sale just received their payment today.... I shipped out the iphone on 9/24. So it take 2 weeks process to get paid. :)

I sold 4 iPhone 4S's through Amazon Trade In and they were awesome... took two days for them to get the iPhone's -- 2 days to process -- a day later I had all the credits deposited.

The main problem is actually with the people who are sending the iPhones in and not correctly evaluating the condition....

Heres my receipt from two if my iPhone 4S's through Amazon.

Ebay Instand Sale

I sent my iphone 4s in to Ebay Instant sale and they received it Oct. 1st. Their site says they will give you a new quote if your phone is in different shape than you told them or they will confirm their bid to you. Then they state, it will be in your Paypal account within 2 days. I have received nothing as of yet and it is Oct. 7th. I am worried because they have my Iphone 4s and I have no money. Just saying......

I did eBay instan sale last year with my ipad 2. I had no problems what so ever. Once my iPad got to them, it was all of three days a he most from evaluation to payment.

Bait and Switch

I sent my iPhone 3GS in just a few weeks ago. Not only we they slow processing my shipment. But my revised offer was $13!!! Down from the $110 advertised offer. My iPhone was in pretty good shape, good screen, and little wear on the back but otherwise good condition. Bait and switch advertising. I declined the offer, so am waiting for it to be returned.

In your case I suspect your assessment of condition was wrong.

Sold mine 2.5 years old scratched and used as hell by my son iPhone 4 16G on Craiglist for $140 in 10 min. It was line with around 50 people :) Cash!!!

UPDATE.

TODAY I JUST RECEIVED 200$ from the ebay instant sale. Although it took a long time to get the money, they sent me the agreed amount.

Amazon sent me the phone back after 5 days. the phone was in the exact same condition as the one I sent to ebay. As per this experience I recommend EBAY over Amazon.
