This came up on the beta mailing list, there is no support for case-sensitive file systems, nor do they have any plans to support case-sensitive file systems. I've heard some people are working on independent fixes, I'm sure they'll appear within a few days of everything going live.

They should fix this, or they are going to have some serious headaches with the Linux port. :D

How do you guys manage to download Portal? I click on the link in the store, steam starts to load it, but then it redirects to the same beta-store page...

I think it is in order to ask why that person is using Mac OS Extended Case Sensitive...

Guys, it's NOT RELEASED YET, so what a surprise it's not working properly. Just wait for Valve to update the homepage and it'll probably work, albeit probably with a tad overloaded servers.

Guys, click on your Library and Install it from there.

BUT! This Portal doesn't work and didn't work in Beta with this Workaround. Somebody said it downloads the wrong GCF Files.

Yup me three.. it loops.

Anyways.. they're going to work out the kinks.

When I start Steam the app just freezes nearly immediately and I have to force quit, never even see the interface.

Wondering if my Intel Mac is too old (2.33 GHz Intel core Duo, with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 Ram, and a dinosaur of a video card, Nvidia 7600 GT)

UPDATE: Well, Steam client did an update, but then froze up again. Odd that some people with brand new machines are having the same problem while most people aren't having any trouble loading steam.

My wife is playing one of the old LucasArts Indiana Jones games right now on the Mac side, thanks for the link to get around the beta message :D.

Portal doesnt work for people who weren't actually in the beta.. You've been able to get the client from bittorrent sites for a couple of weeks and this has always been the case. Friends who have bought Portal previously and just get "game not available" even when they've used the bypass code thingy. So everyone's still waiting. :)

It's not too old I have an older machine running it just fine right now.

This is exactly what happens to me. I'm on a brand-new 27" iMac. It instantly locks up and I need to force quit. I don't even see the interface either.

I'm curious I have a steam account on PC, could I get the mac version of games for free? (I wouldn't expect so but would be cool).

Like I have the half life games, but importantly portal, which already has a mac version so could I play the mac one for free?

Valve releasing on time?
Is there a rupture in the space-time-continuum? I'm scared!

Relax, everything's just fine. It was supposed to be released way back in April, but it was pushed back to May. Now that the client has been released, the service isn't up and running just yet (as of this writing). Sounds like Valve time is running just fine.
