I'm curious I have a steam account on PC, could I get the mac version of games for free? (I wouldn't expect so but would be cool).

Like I have the half life games, but importantly portal, which already has a mac version so could I play the mac one for free?

Some games will support Steam Play allowing you to play already-purchased-on-PC games on the Mac.

What exactly is steam? and what does it do?

It's like iTunes, only for games.

From Wikipedia: Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute a large number of games and related media entirely over the Internet, from small independent efforts to larger, more popular games. Steam is set apart from similar services primarily by its community features, completely automated game update process, and its use of in-game functionality.

Oh great, Steam Quit Unexpectedly while downloading Portal. And then when I clicked Relaunch, it launched Crossover Games and the Crossover Steam... How lame! WTF!

*sigh* Portal's roughly a 5gb download. Looks like I'll have to let it download overnight. Will have to make do with Torchlight and World of Goo in the meantime.

Am I right that even if Steam is launched today there will be only Portal and Torchlight available? I have only Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 bought through Steam and does it it mean that i'll have to wait for XXX time period until they will also be out?

is no one else getting this error?

This is the error I get. I've been getting it for a few days when I click on "login with an existing account."

TF2 isn't showing up in my games list uhhhhhh

It looks like the Mac Games category is empty! Choose to 'Show' another category above to display items here.the Steam store or choose to 'Show' another category above to display items here.
