So maybe I'm holding the iPhone even higher than with those previous phones, nearer the center of the keypad, so that key pokes don't cause it to rock.

And I've always anchored an input device by having it supported by as much of the left and right sides as possible - no rock possible.

Please explain your theory on the difference between complaint/bitch.....

Complaint: A customer who is annoyed at a product and puts their grievance across in a mature, concise manner.

Bitch: Uses the term "fanboy" when they can, seemingly refuses to acknowledge their opinion can be challenged and may be done so with valid points, may not even own the product in question.

Put it this way, on the forum of the local football (soccer) team I support, there is a handful of people who post anti-Apple posts any time an "anti-Apple" story breaks and it descends into slagging match.

I've leaned to no longer post my opinions, because despite having product knowledge and a willingness to put my point across in a well constructed manner, these people who have based their opinion of Apple on hearsay and other views that it's "cool" to hate on Apple, do nothing but bitch.

And in case you ask, these people on the other forum I use, I know for a FACT they have never owned an Apple product, some have never even owned an iPod and have argued in favour of Creative's MP3 players in the past despite not even owning those either.

That is bitching.

Well the phones are all faulty, some are blind to it ... but at the end of the day all will have signal issues if they're not lucky with the area coverage lottery...

True about every cell phone. They're all faulty, and will lose the coverage lottery somewhere.

Just because your last lottery ticket won a few bucks doesn't mean the next one will (although the feeling that it might is certainly making a lot money for the lottery.)

They might be implying that an e-mail from the CEO - from his corporate account - is an official statement. Which I'm inclined to agree with.

If that's the case, his 'stay tuned' comment gives me at least enough hope to hold out on my return until I get closer to the end of my 30 day return policy.

I think that's fair.

Well the phones are all faulty, some are blind to it (the radiant light of Saint Jobs in their eyes) but at the end of the day all will have signal issues if they're not lucky with the area coverage lottery - in addition the proximity sensor doesn't work and you will mute the phone with your ear if you're not careful. Oh, and the "vibrate" mode is ineffective to say the least, I don't feel it in my pocket or hear it on a table.

Many WILL be returning the phone but we're waiting on an update from Apple - they've got about a week for most of us.

If you're smug enough to think your phone is perfect so the rest of us must be idiots then good for you.

I don't know how anyone can say that.

However, where's the video of the perfect phone, at least with the antenna?

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been busy in recent days responding to customers emails, many of which have been addressing signal issues on the company's new iPhone 4. Boy Genius Report shares a new conversation between Jobs and a customer on the issue containing several interesting aspects.

First, it appears that contact was initiated by an Apple engineer who reached out to the customer after seeing a YouTube video regarding the issue posted by the customer. The engineer reportedly informed the customer that Apple does not consider it a problem and asked him not to post any additional videos.

The customer followed up with an email expressing frustration at the situation and sent a copy to Jobs, who responded, "No, you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down." With the customer arguing that the situation is much more than just rumors, Jobs again replied, claiming that the customer is "most likely in an area with very low signal strength."

Unappeased, the increasingly agitated customer continued to press the issue by claiming that the entire country must have low signal strength. Not willing to give up the fight, however, Jobs replied yet again to claim that the customer "may be working from bad data" and reiterate his earlier suggestion that customers should "stay tuned." Jobs also noted that Apple is "working on it", although it remains unclear exactly how the company is planning to address the issue.

Jobs also sent one final message, encouraging the customer to "retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it."

Wow..Not for sure how to take this one. It could be delayed that you cant return it because your taking a chance on a "so called fix"... Now everyone has made statements about every phone does this and has quoted decibals for mearsuments..NO one has showed proof as to the extreme as the Iphone 4 is doing.. Five/Four bars to 1 or zero( what percentage drop in decibals is that?) Also, even if it was designed to be more powerful antennae what good is it if it cant not maintain what you say it was designed to do? Im just waiting to see the outcome before i cancel my order, which is due to ship before July 14...

The sad thing about all of this is that no matter what happens from here on, the iPhone 4 will forever be remembered for this debacle.

Get over it already

Gee whiz people. First it was "the emails could be fake" and now you're arguing about how to hold the iphone so it doesn't affect the antenna. If you bought the iphone and you dont mind the defect, then great and if you do mind it, then return it. If you have not purchased it yet, then WAIT. I expect apple will actually fix the defect at some point.

I can understand how all the apple followers that have spent thousands of dollars on overpriced hardware would defend their precious apple loyalty to the grave. I have several apple products and the quality is lacking, the planned obsolescence is blatant, but they look awesome, right? I'm no longer fooled.

Lovely, 40 pages worth of people freaking out, and it turns out that Jobs didn't even say "It's just a phone"

That's the problem, most of us were expecting better - we're probably all upgrading from a 3G or 3GS that didn't have these faults, we're spending that money because we loved the previous phone and were told this would be an upgrade...

"All phones drop signal" comment from the Apple Fan Club - Yes, they probably do - but I've never lost calls on any of 5 previous mobiles the way I am on this one, this phone is worse due to design, with full signal strength indicated you shouldn't drop a call - face up to it, accept it Apple can make mistakes, the evidence is all the fuss this is causing.

We want to keep the phone but we want the PROBLEMS fixed - we are waiting for an official Apple statement telling us if they intend to listen to the vast number of complaints or not - as I said they have about a week before they are facing masses of returns from those of us sitting on the fence...

Here at work, my signal is amazing. Run to Subway for lunch, and Ive got full 3G service there too. Hold the phone tightly around the entire bevel and cant drop a single bar.

Then...I stop in at home and quickly drop to Edge. Lay the phone down, 3G. Pick it back up...No Service.

Obviously there is a weak signal in my apartment...but there is a signal. My brothers 3G model works just fine. Full bars on Edge, minimum.

For all those who claim that their iPhones are fine..I am seirously happy for you..no sarcasm. I just hope you never enter a weak signal area because you will quickly discover that the iPhone 4 cannot deal with it.

Video or it didn't happen.

I can do the same thing, but only when I stand in an area that I know has good coverage.

Again, that's the whole issue. If you're in sparse coverage, holding the phone makes it more susceptible to dropping bars.

Yeah, isn't it stupid how certain individuals on here will blindly defend Steve Jobs, no matter what he says or does.

They can't ALL be Apple shareholders surely?

I regard 'Fanboys' or 'Fanbois' as uninformed, reactionary individuals who lack coherent, intelligent thought, no matter what/who they're 'fans' of (Apple, Android etc).

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. It all depends on how fast Apple fixes the problem for people that have the problem. There were issues last year with the 3GS and the iPad had the no-wifi problem. No one even remembers those now.

Fingers crossed that turns out to be the case, because it really is a fantastic device.

Way to go on misquoting Steve Jobs, Macrumors! Maybe that will teach them to verify information before posting it on the front page.

But don't insult me or others because i'm not going to apologize that mine works. And i feel bad for you and others that you let your life become consumed with a electronic device. Life is too short and iPhones will come and go but life will only go.

wow, you must have an apple tattoo on your arm. Do you have any thoughts of your own on this matter or do you have to bite off steve jobs words?

If its not worth it i think everyone with this problem should just return their iphone 4s until the issue is resolved. 1.7mil iphones sold? 1.7mil iphones returned! NEW RECORD!

10,000 phones returned, oh noes.

Apple's continued response to this is getting more and more asinine as the days pass. Asking a consumer to stop posting videos, are you kidding me? Based on that response everybody should start posting videos now and keep posting them. Apple just doesn't get it anymore and the touch they had with customer service is long gone. Granted, we've only seen the gist of the emails between the parties but from what we've read, Apple initiated the email and asked the person to not post anymore videos.

Yeah of course at some point Apple might seek damages from people posting libelous/slanderous videos hurting their business.

I have not seen any video that demonstrates there is an issue beyond the person making the video not having the first idea of how to troubleshoot or debug any kind of problem.
