But my take on the device is quite diff from yours, Nilonym... Summary: It's a great product for me. I suspect millions of others will come to that same conclusion for their own lifestyles.

My point was addressed to everyone who believes the lack of certain features, e.g. multitasking, USB ports, "open" platform, even Flash support, will doom the iPad. We heard the same arguments in the post-iPhone-launch era. The fact is that many people who are interested in a portable device don't really care about any of this; they just want something that's fun and easy to use.

I'm with you. I'm a hardcore Apple user, with multiple notebooks, iPhones, Apple TVs, Airports, etc throughout the house and office. I was initially disappointed by the iPad, but now that I've had some time to digest and put it in context, I'm more favorable inclined. At this point, I think I'll be "in line". ;)

Droid by Motorola > IPhone

Android OS > IPhone OS

Apple's iTunes Market > Googles Android Market...

You know when villains lose their **** in mangas, animes, movies, cartoons, etc...? They lose their **** because their opponent poses a threat.

Steve Jobs, lost his ****... he is feeling threatened... but I don't care! Cause I will be buying Google and Apple products! LOL HAAAAA

I'm hedging my bets on touchscreen being what he's reffering to as 'the next level'.

They've shown that they can deliver this technology in a 10inch (almost laptop sized) screen - its plausible they can scale it up to macbook pros, maybe even imacs too. It makes sense because they're the only technology group which has managed to make multitouch work in a really sophisticated way, its a big edge ready to be exploited.

I'm betting macbook pros adopt this technology in the 3rd or 4th quarter.... I was right about the 'iPad' name :p

"The world is moving to HTML5." - May it be so, Steve, may it be so!

"Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with." - Better make it quick Steve, your competitors aren't exactly sitting around. The yearly refresh cycle probably isn't going to cut it anymore.

I think rapid updates to the iPhone OS is more important.

The OS is the key to any Apple as RIM keeps updating nearly every month and has not dented Apple iPhone sales.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Just read this on Patently Apple...could we still see iChat/front facing camera in time for iPad launch?

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2010/01/apple-wins-ichat-and-major-tablet-patent-prior-to-launch.html

Right on. I miss Apple Computer...It's time for him to move aside and Apple to get someone who can do justice to its computer business.

I think you guys might be a little short-sighted. The way people will interface with computers isn't the MacPro or MacBook Pro. Computers are going to become more intimate, more ubiquitous, and less "machines." The iPhone and iPad are, IMO, revolutionary devices and a glimpse at tomorrow.

The iPod and iPhone are ubiquitous because they operate exactly how/where people want them to. That speaks legions of a company's vision. And the fact that they're ubiquitous yet not banal speaks even louder.

concern about ipad

I have many doubt about this ipad.

1. It is obviously adressed to the mass, right? and the mass wants what Steve Jobs said in the keynote: Media, Games, Internet. Ok, I agree. But isn't "the mass" using dvd every day more than streaming o video files downloaded on the HD? (i'm talking about my parents, not us). So, no DVD players.. I guess it could be a bummer if you start thinking about mass. Let alone flash in the near future for streaming experiences. HTML5 will work, but not NOW. (ipad is shipping on march)

2. the Mass just got used to "point and click", "drag and drop", "zipping" etc etc.. now a new interface... Ok, 75 Milion users of Iphone already know what Steve is talking about. But the other (hunderds of millions) could have doubts on buying a "computer" that doesn't work like a computer. (As for the 75 milion Iphone users, many won't buy the Ipad, at least at the begginning, because the difference won't be so noticeable before a year os software developping.

3. Where do I put this device? Can't put it in the pocket, so it will say at home/office or in a bag. But the screen is a bit small compared to a standard laptop... Then again, why would a common user jump into a whole new interface experience where he can get a good old desktop/laptop for the same price? It takes balls to change our habits. People usually love to redo the same things they use to do. It's called Homeostasis.

So, that take me to a hypothesis:

Ipad will sell when cool killer app will come. Cool killer apps will come if the Ipad's market will be as remunerative as the iphone one. Ipad's market will be remunerable as the iphone one as soon as enough people will buy it. And the Ipad will sell when cool killer app will come... etc etc..

Catch 22.

Plus the doubts running around the net about whole machine... Advertising is not that good around forums, and many doubts are here. The one I posted are only my personal doubts, but many other have posted many other doubts. no Flash, no multitasking, no camera, closed os, no usb, "it's just a big iphone." Wich is actually what people think it is, because the news said so. And people watch tv, not engadget, nor gizmodo. Just simple 1 minute news that says "Apple created the Ipad, wich is like a big iphone."

Ask your non geek friend what they think about the ipad. Most probably they will say "it's a big iphone".

I never had so many doubts about an apple product. Steve jobs is getting aggressive, and some Very very intersting things are happening.

We are living beautiful times :)

Microsoft enjoyed a 14% increase in revenue from the same quarter a year ago to a record $19.02bn. Windows 7 is fastest selling OS in history. They doing fine. Just saying

If 80% of the world chair-using male population was forced to either sit on a chair with a dildo on it for 2 years or sit on a 2001, very uncomfortable stool; then in the end of 2009 a decent chair was released, wouldn't the latter probably be the fastest selling chair in history?

Just saying.

Ok, I bought into Mac around 1990.
Congratulations.

I used a g4 as a magazine editor from about 2001 for a few years, and slowly came round, but didn't make the leap til Intel.

I have seen nothing but sunshine and progress.

If the only thing i am missing is flash ads, pirated pron and farmville - i will happily live without.

Steve Jobs' Fire + Google Rival = Apple Domination

Apple loves to prove people wrong. Just you wait; you haven't seen anything yet...

-On HTML5, my web developer friend explained to me it's not there yet to take over from Flash and won't be for many years to come if ever. He stated the browsers just run it differently and it's not even being considered at many places. He attended a conference with other big web developers and very few people there were considering it. Considering he is a lead web developer for a Fortune 500 company I'll go ahead and think he knows what he is talking about.

-Flash has rarely crashed my browser, on my Macbook or Windows machines. My guess is when it crashes it's due to a poorly implemented website. You know, those annoying websites where everything is Flash. I've watched countless movies and TV shows on Hulu and Youtube and I can't remember a single crash. I use Grooveshark a lot which is flash based, never a crash.

-Apple isn't big enough to control the market. Most people are not technical. In a year they'll be seeing users with Android and WebOS phones playing flash content and they'll be disappointed their iPhone doesn't do that. A lot of iPhone users have no idea who Steve Jobs is, much less care about what he thinks about Flash. Make no mistake, Apple's decision to ignore Flash isn't so much a technical one as it is a financial/business one.

-Nobody can kill the iPhone? Why? The iPhone has yet to kill a single phone. There's plenty of market for Google to join in and right now Android 2.0 is better than iPhone OS 3.0 in my opinion. Apple is now playing catch up with 4.0.

Anyway, if he says that macs are going to be taken to the next level, im expecting some crossfire capability for ATI cards, garbage collection for SSD drives and a fix on the green button in the finder and other applications as it does NOT properly maximize windows.

Keep Waiting. :p

Since you asked. Things I think Nexus One (Android OS) does better than iPhone 3gs:

Gmail & Calendar (w/ gmail experience)
Contacts App
Google Voice (only web based on iphone)
Maps & Free turn turn navigation (even without pinch)
Multitasking
User customization
Build quality (w/ scratch resistant coating)
Seems faster even with multitasking
1: Don't use it much don't knw
2: Never had any problem with the Contacts app, works pretty flawlessly IMO.
3: You mean the Google voice that actually CENSORS what it types from your voice?? lol yay freedon of speach (Must not swear, must not swear)
4: Crap, I'd much rather pay for a reliable sat nav (Apple don't make there own so how is it a plus anyway?) then use a big brother solution. They probably record all your routes!!
4: iPhone doesn't mutitask.... yet..... so of course the Nexus does it better!
5:Give you that seeing as you can't customize the iPhone but teh OS doesn't lend itself to that anyway.
6: Rubbish, the iPhone IMO is VERY well built and feels VERY solid.
7: Well duh, snapdragon 1ghz versus 633mhz? Hmm take a guess at what's faster!!!

Dear internet,

It's spelled "lose." "Loose" is the opposite of tight.

Thanks,
A guy who can't understand what's so hard about this

Let me ask you this... what is the opposite of "above me"?

Right - the answer would be spelled wrong but you get the point don't you?

I type 120 WPM (with mistakes) - get a life... just sayin...

Congratulations.

My point was that the principles of the company have radically changed over the last 20 years. From making great products to dominating markets. When the goal is dominating markets it's obviously a wet dream for shareholders, but customers needs get lost, and that's when the decline starts.

The iPhone sales didn't pick up until it was subsidized by AT&T. People are interested in a portable device, I'm not so sure they're interested in one that starts at $500.

This analyst is predicting that Android might overtake the iPhone in 2012, while also claiming that the iPhone market share will grow from 10.8 per cent to 13.7 per cent.

I was looking for sources to backup the claim that many experts were predicting the demise of the iPhone within three years.

Just saying.

IF they are happy with a chair from 2001 then why upgrade anyway? And they can all run flash no problem. And as you say Win 7 is good.

On Google: We did not enter the search business, Jobs said. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them, he says. Someone else asks something on a different topic, but there’s no getting Jobs off this rant. I want to go back to that other question first and say one more thing, he says. This don’t be evil mantra: “It’s ********.” Audience roars.

Quad isn't this classic man!!??? I can just see Steve preaching this and the Apple employees cheering it on!!

Google crossed the wrong CEO & COMPANY for sure

Why are people arguing over the who'll flash statement and not the Google statement.

I just don't get why they can't just add Flash and make it so that in the settings panel it can be easily turned on and off like Java or other plugins at the moment. That way it you don't want to use Flash you don't have to and if you do you can just flick it on.

Apple will sell more iPads and everyone can have what they want.

It's all a little narrow-minded for my tastes.

Because Apple wants to sell to the masses. This is good.
The masses are novices who can't deal with crashes. This is.
If the device crashes due to Flash then Apple will get blamed. This is bad.

The simple solution is not to have Flash. Problem solved. Yes, there will be some whiners who complain about the lack of Flash but everything done with Flash can and should be done in other ways. Flash is mostly used for junky wasteful glitz and ads. I run with Flash turned off using PithHelmet to turn it on as needed. The web is a much more pleasant experience this way.

:)

Jobs is right about flash. Whenever a browser crashes on my Macbook, its because of flash.

Steve was surprisingly open here. I'm surprised. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeve this year.

My favorite thing about the Droids is that users always claim they are either as good, or better than an iPhone, and can't name one thing it does better.

Multi tasking :)

Faster

In the US it is will be on Verizion. Yes you can not make a call and use data but considering how bad things are in San Francisco I would prefer better data.

I love my iPhone it has it drawbacks compared to newer phones. I really hope this A+ upgrade rocks because my two year contract is up at the end of the year and I would like to upgrade my 3G.

IF they are happy with a chair from 2001 then why upgrade anyway? And they can all run flash no problem

It's not a chair, it's a stool. Would you enjoy working on a stool? Most do not. Same as for the dildo.
The new chair is not good. It's decent. It may feel good because it doesn't hurt your spinal cord. Or your...you know.

1 lost sale, but there are at least another 2B people with money in their pockets, too.

Even those who don't have money in their pocket (me!) want this thing. I'm thinking it's beans and toast for the next few months till I've saved up enough to buy one of these delightful devices.
