Right on. I miss Apple Computer.
Steve may have brought Apple back with the iMac but that was more than a decade ago. It's time for him to move aside and Apple to get someone who can do justice to its computer business.
Amen...amen.
Apple has reached critical mass with Jobs. He is too hands on, almost maniacal, that is why there has been no innovation on the "Macintosh" computer side. He focuses on one thing at a time becaouse he does not properly delegate.
He has also been too concerned about increasing the bank account balance and accommodating the music/movie industry, screwing Apple customers in the process. How is it possible Amazon and others offer better quality, DRM free music for FAR LESS $ than the giant iTunes store? Why don't we have the option of Blu-Ray yet? Why don't we have HDMI on Mac's "dated" video cards? Exactly what is the compelling reason to by Apple Mac hardware for a premium price? Why are we asked to pay even more for Apple Care when 3 years warranty is now a PC industry standard? Mac users have been paying a premium while getting less and less in return.
To me, only Mac OS is compelling, narrowly so at the moment. Yes, Snow Leopard is 64 bit now. So what? Apple has made little effort in working with developers to bring more 64B apps to the platform. In fact, it has done little to further develop its own software in the past few years.
The reason the iPhone has succeeded is because that has been his focus, and he has done well. All the while the Mac has been neglected. The mac Mini is pathetic at the current price point. The Mac Pro has only gotten a new processor slapped in every 12-16 months. The only ones getting decent (not great) updates, albeit once a year, are the iMac and the laptops.
Jobs critical mass is running out of momentum. More and more Mac users are getting frustrated with the products, or lack there of, Apple is producing. "Do less for far more $" seems to be the new motto. Hell, even the iApps have been stagnant for a long time now. Once again, Apple seems to be squandering a great opportunity to grow and stay competitive. It will not take much for consumers and Wall Street to become disenchanted with the "new" Apple, as it has in the past.
After 20+ years using Macs exclusively, and a fortune, I am seriously considering switching to Windows. Bugs or not, there at least I can do whatever the hell I want for far less $. I am tired of Apple trying to tell me what I need/don't need. Those choices are for us and us alone to make.
