Yeah, we all know what happened to the Mac v PC/Win in the 80s. This time iPad is the Mac and Android/Chrome is the PC!

Has Eric Schmidt become the new Bill Gates?

All of those years ago Bill was "inspired" by what Steve was up to... looks like history repeated itself.

I wonder if at some point in the future we may learn about the conversation that these two "friends" had last August that lead to Eric's departure from Apples board. Whatever it was you can almost feel it in Steve's statement regarding Google.

It's said that you cant take business personal, but in this case it may turn out that Steve takes his business now with Eric very personal.

Couldn't agree more. I think it is greatly exaggerated. I've never had my browser crash due to Flash that I can recall.

"No one will be using Flash, Jobs says. The world is moving to HTML5."
Problem is there are a lot of sites that are using Flash. A lot of designers who use Macs use Flash to design for the web. I'd wager that a majority of us prefer HTML since Flash's interface has grown ever more counter-intuitive but when exactly is this date that Flash dies on the Web? I usually concur with Steve Jobs vision but I'm just not drinking the Kool-Aid on this one.

I second that emotion.
This sounds like he's defending this bone headed move by coming out attacking. Bit like the Google and BluRay quotes.
BTW...no one here seems to care much about the fact that with his slag of Adobe he has in all likelihood sealed the fate of CS suite on the Mac.
So much for us pro's out here.
Apple stopped caring about us years ago and it sure looks like this could be the beginning of the end.
I wish the damn iPod/iPhone had never happened...tuned Apple into a friggin' consumer electronics company.

This will hopefully put to rest the requests for Flash on the iPhone/iPad. It's not going to happen, everyone can move on, and we can look forward to HTML5.

All those who aren't Adobe fanboys have known this and been very excited about it the ENTIRE time!

One little comment by Mr. Jobs and, suddenly, 50 pages of response pop up. 30 years and the man still captivates us. Even though he is a little temperamental, he seems like the type of guy I'd like to work with. Focused, motivated by excellence (not money or power {Gates. Schmidt}), and honest about a situation. What a cool dude.

I concur. Wish we had more people like him in this world; especially in politics.

Now here's a REAL FANBOY!!!!
OMG...why don't you give him a big kiss while your at it

An iPhone using the same industrial design as the iPad would be pretty god damn slick. Never liked the cheap plastic build of the 3G & 3GS. It's fine for a low end option but you gotta give people a premium option too. I'm guessing the "A+" is not only hardware but software. I keep reminding people of the copy & paste situation. It took a while but does anyone dispute the iPhone has the absolute best mobile copy & paste implementation out there today? Sometimes it takes a while to get some of these features out the door but when Apple does it, they do it right.

I have been saying for quite a while that Google is the new Microsoft but free! Think about it. It is VERY true! I am liking Google less and less as time goes by!

I am pretty excited about all these things Steve said, and they don't surprise me at all! I just hope iTunes can take HD to 1080p this year since we won't be getting Bluray for sometime if ever.

I also REALLY hope Apple does not abandon us film-makers with the Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio. They have made several comments lately about the weakness of their pro products! :( I will weep if they ever drop that segment of their products! I think with the economy picking up and if they issue a GOOD FCS upgrade like Cocoa rewritten 64bit open CL and grand central, then they would see those sales all pick up again!

AidenShaw: technology manufacturing inventory specialist.

That's a new one.

But I think Apple has done an amazing job with inventory management without your help - in fact, I believe they are at (or near) the top of the industry in this regard.

Thanks for the gratuitous insult, it makes being here fun.

By the way, I *was* describing Apple's inventory management....

Agreed - Adobe are a crap company and I'm not surprise Jobs has labelled them 'lazy'.

I invested in them because how well they've done with Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator.

But if you have ever had a taste of their customer service - you are instantly left with a sour experience that is sadly repeated every single time you contact them.

Subsequently - I dropped all my Adobe shares and have lost faith in their company.

I was interested to see that Flash CS5 will export Apps directly to the App Store - that shocked me??

So obviously Apple have been working with Adobe closer than I thought.

It's a shame Jobs has dropped Flash support because of the poor implentation on the Mac. Flash has worked well on Windows for years....

Those comments about Adobe can only mean one thing: Apple is about to release a serious rival package against Photoshop as part of iWork.

So far, Preview (Acrobat Reader), FCP (Premiere), Pages (InDesign), Aperture (Lightroom) Artist/Palette (Photoshop)...

I wouldn't be too surprised if they also produce some sort of Flash emulator (but that may just be wishful thinking on my part) until HTML5 is fully adopted.

In the US there are no alternatives - T-Mobile uses the wrong frequency.

What do you mean wrong frequencies? I have used my iphone with T-Mobile for over a year with no problem, data plan included.

Im Looking forward to this year, i think its gonna be a game changer. Hopefully Apple can keep ahead of the curve, as they have been doing quite effectively recently. im looking forward to the iPad, iPhone 4.0, n these quads that people keep talkin about ;)

I think Jobs was onto sommat about flash though. Correct me if im wrong, but its one of the few things that is still in 32bit mode. (by 3rd party developers at least) Adobe do need to get their respective fingers out.

On google im not too sure i like where google is going. I get the impression that with time they can become alot more monopolistic than apple and microsoft put together..

Google is a federated company (sure seems like it) that is only differentiated by its size. It has no actual style or overarching design philosophy to speak of.

They have no taste and don't put much culture into their products. They're not unlike another large company we're all familiar with.

It's not just the Mac version that sucks. Show me one mobile version that doesn't blow as well.

Apple? I agree

Flash is buggy, no matter the platform. Unfortunately, it is such a standard that Apple's disinclination to support it for the iPhone is a headache for many. I don't think it's ever going to happen...Apple is moving on and expecting everyone else to follow.

I see Apple's doing some pop culture promotion...Stephen Colbert had an iPad on the Grammy Awards tonight.

"- Next iPhone coming is an A+ update"

Sorry, I dont get it? why are people hyped up about an "A+" update?
Is this an american term as I have never heard of anything being described in this way other than at college?

In Apple marketing speak it translates to "If we tell you it's the best, it's the best....BUY IT"!

These comments have got me questioning my choices for 2010 a little. I've been using a MacBook+iPhone setup for quite a long time, and since the iPad's announcement have decided to move to using iPhone+iPad+iMac. This means 2010 would be the year of my first iMac purchase. Should I wait to see what this 'next level' iMac is, all the while, my MacBook Pro drops in resale value? Or should I just move to a 29" Quad tomorrow...Steve's just gone and made things a lil confusing...
