Apple has had more modest upgrades year over year. Extra GPU core, better cameras and satellite connectivity isn't bad for an extra $100 if you wanted those features. If not, stick to the 13 at a discount.

Im still rocking an 11 and think the Pro is my next phone. I just have to see if that camera bump with a case is going to be annoying in my pocket.

I looked at all the places I would want to travel too to see if I needed a physical sim and luckily I can get an esim everywhere Id want to be.

nope, the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G had the exact same 412 MHz ARM11 processor, both had 128 MB of RAM, both shared identical two megapixel cameras.
As did the 5 and 5C.
As did the iPad sixth generation and seventh generation.
As did the Apple Watch Series 4 and series 5, and again the series 6, seven and eight.
As for Apple keeping the product the same, but just adding new colors, they’ve done this several times.
They used to do it all the time in the iPod shuffle days, shuffling the colors without changing anything about the product.
Most recently, they did this with the iPhone 13, adding Green.

You are right on keeping the same SoC but

5 and 5c is different..the 5c was cheaper than the 5 and the 5S took the iphone 5 price
and the 3G iphone had the same cpu but a lot cheaper ...again not the same thing
This is the first time ever, that Apple keep the prices even if they dont even change the SoC

Could’ve said the same thing about X to XS to 11 to 12 to 13. No one iteration has been that profound in the past 5 years. That’s the symptom of a mature market for a product.

Thee's not much profound happening with any devices. It's kind of all been done already....except for tweaks...or folding devices. There's "flip", "candy bar" assorted screens connectors, etc. It is now a mature market and the manufacturers need to to keep doing whatever tweaks they can to entice people to keep buying a new device annually. For one, they are public corporations and are required to provide the best ROI that they can for shareholders and still try to keep customers happy.

From the iPhone 13, sure... But tons of people would be upgrading from earlier models. While quite a few people do upgrade yearly, I suspect far more skip a year, or two, between upgrades. Making it a nice bump, even if you don't want to spring for the Pro.

Year to year upgrades are almost always a bit lackluster, except for the occasional surprise.

Well, a founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, has had far, far worse comments about Apple than this meme joke. BTW, Woz is still on Apple's payroll.

That said, I disagree with her. I think the iPhone 14 Plus is the biggest update to the non-Pro iPhone line in years, and iPhone 14 Plus is going to be Apple's best seller this year.

Guess the same marketing comments and incremental improvements of the iPhone 14 family are finally having an impact with some Apple iPhone fans. Compared to the spontaneity of past events this show was like being stuck in a long meeting. It does raise an interesting question at what point in the iPhone evolution does the technology plateau at?
