Hey - its the cutting edge of tech.
If you can't be patient - buy a 3gs - awesome phone
I have a 3GS, that's how I know the call dropping is real and why I need to know if they are going to fix the problem or not so I can return this defective merchandise and go back to what works. The complaint is that  is trying to have their pie and eat it too (the cake is a lie) by not saying anything officially.

There is a point where taking adverts literally becomes pedantry.
So I should have just known that the way they advertise holding the phone, the way I have held all previous iPhones, couldn't be expected to work on the iPhone 4?

Why do I get the impression if they had made it out of feces you would just be telling me all I have to do is hold my nose while I'm using it and why am I complaining?

Uncritical support of a defective product can only take you so far before you start seeming, well, a fanboy.

I can't remember many statements by microsoft that vista wasn't a great OS.

Its business.

And apple even more secretive.

the solution will be released when its ready.

Yes this is faith - this faith has been earned.

Its cutting edge design - not a week old in the wild.

A LITTLE patience is probably in order.

Why do I get the impression if they had made it out of feces you would just be telling me all I have to do is hold my nose while I'm using it and why am I complaining?

the 3.1 coma issue was far worse

Is "not shorting out 2 pieces of metal" SUCH a burden?

A ferrari will never be as reliable as a huyundai

Uncritical support of a defective product can only take you so far before you start seeming, well, a fanboy.

Whining that initial flaws on what is looking like the benchmark phone for the next 2 years have not been hammered out within a week of launch makes you seem equally churlish.

Actually when they are exactly where a normal person holds a phone yeah, stupid on their part to have put them there.

Whining that initial flaws on what is looking like the benchmark phone for the next 2 years have not been hammered out within a week of launch makes you seem equally churlish.

And not expect  to make it clear if they are going to fix it or not before people return windows are closed makes you seem positively clueless.

I am with Steve on this one. New designs are always experimental.
Cut them some slack or buy a 3GS

The experimental phase is usually before a product actually launches! They had testers with this phone months prior to launch! Are you telling me that they didn't know about this issue? Is that why they magically created a bumper that ONLY covers the sides, and announced it at WWDC? They've never announced accessories before, not like they did with the bumper.

Julz you're a piece of work. You've got your head so far up SJ's butt that you don't even know reality from your distorted fiction.

You're a waste of a user account.

Er, how long have you been following :apple:? :D

remind me of the last time they washed their dirty linen in public?

Got to agree. Apple never even acknowledged the problem, even when they released the update which fixed the coma issue.

Olly! There is pen pic from the past!

Hey, that coma issue was mad. The wife is still on ios2!

You are right - they fix the problem and job done.

Taking time to admit there is a problem and to tell people they are working on a fix is not :apple:.

I agree. But if someone comes to your house and pisses on your favorite chair, "that's just Lenny being Lenny" isn't going to make you feel any better, and a chorus of "just be patient. it will dry eventually" isn't going to make you feel any better either.

Apple being Apple isn't doing Apple any favors right now, and people who are afflicted with an obvious flaw, and with no way to return their phones for a full refund, have every right to be annoyed so long as Apple refuses to tell us what it plans to do about it. Hell, at least if they consistently said "there is no problem" we'd know where they stand. Instead they send out mixed messages.

Apple is not as high as the bar can or should go. Simply because Apple behaves in a certain manor or has historically behaved in that manor does not say anything about whether or not it is good customer service. Simply saying Apple is going to behave like Apple doesn't change the nature and effect that behavior has.

I don't have a problem with Apple as a company; I like and use their products. I don't, however, let that stop me from criticizing them when criticism is due. If there is an issue with a product, customers expect the company involved to be honest and forthcoming with information. Apple doesn't get a free pass just because they're Apple.

Indeed. Babies cry - that is what they do until they garner a little more understanding about how the world actually works.

crying!=complaining.

you excuse apple's bad behavior by stating that this type of behavior is just the way apple operates.

but you don't forgive the people who are deleteriously effected by this behavior for complaining about it.

UPDATE: looks like Apple plans to do nothing: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...=Feed:+TheBoyGeniusReport+(Boy+Genius+Report)

Indeed not, let hem know when there is a problem - then let them fix it.

No - but customers should expect customers should expect what has gone before.

Apple are reserved and secretive - that should be no surprise.

When the solution is ready - we will get it.

If you don't have faith they will do that, then take faith in a another company.

Any PR person will tell you that's it's always best to keep silent until you've identified the problem and have come up with a solution.
If they'd done that it would be a different situation, wouldn't it? Steve has said there is no problem,  Experts last week said they were working on a solution, now people are reporting the Experts are lying saying 'its just the way cell phones are'.

If they had been silent they might have gotten away with it, but now they have to say something.

Yes, i can short out the antennae if i place a sweaty finger over the contacts - but you know what? Now that i know that - I don't.

I bought a 3g case for a couple of quid that got delayed and arrived the same day as my 4 and 3rd party bumpers are about a fiver.

Seriously - look long and hard in the mirror before supporting frivolous scamming by law firms.

Do you sue Lem Motlow if you get a sore head after a night on the jack daniels?

Do you sue corvette if you flip out on a corner in the wet when you stamp on the throttle?

Do you sue god if you get cold when it snows?

Fun toys have their drawbacks.

If you know them, and know how to avoid them - Do it.

You are a joker!

If you bought a Ferrari and every time you held the steering wheel with your left hand, the engine cut out..I suppose you would just laugh it off as "Fun toys have their drawbacks"

Apple fans have three right hands, one to wipe their backside with, one to hold their Iphone 4 and the other to give some loving to Jobs.

And before you ask, I am now on my second Iphone 4 and it is still as bad as the first and will be returned asap.

After readin that, i think i will stay far away from here for a week, there will be a 1000 threads running on items 1E and 4

People don't like buying spending a lot of money on something that does not function properly and then being told they cannot return it for a refund - that should be no surprise.

Early adopters pay heavily for bragging rights.

I will give it a couple more days but if that's true then I will just return mine (maybe AT&T will give away free bumpers to try and offset Apple idiocy?) and advise the many people who ask me about their tech purchases to cancel their orders if they have them and wait for the revision we all know will be coming in the future.
