All the posters bagging on the movie that haven't even seen it, you should really see the movie first before deciding how you feel about it.
Nope, sorry, I'm not about to line the pockets of the likes of Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle, and I'm certainly not about to contribute to the "buzz" about this movie, however small that might be.

Frankly, reading the Walt Mossberg review told me everything I needed to know about it.

Some people may wait to watch it when it comes out on Netflix; given that box office, it shouldn't be long.

Secondly, quite a few people that I know don't even know who Steve Jobs is, although they have an iPhone. I don't expect this movie to reach the commercial scale that The Martian

Not at the level of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (and really, what other movie this year is?), but it seemed to me over the weekend that the movie had a similar ad buy to that first week "The Martian" was released. From what I saw, the ads for "Steve Jobs" were literally all over the college and pro football broadcasts. Universal spent some serious money promoting this movie over the weekend. Shouldn't that invite comparisons?

I'm guessing someone at Sony is feeling pretty smug over having dropped this film like a hot potato...

I don't want to see it because Steve's wife didn't want it made. That alone is enough reason for me. It's called respect.

Nixon didn't want 'All The President's Men' made either... not a reason to skip it.

My main reason for not going is that it doesn't meet my criteria for spending $50 for a movie. (Needs large screen and/or needs seeing with big audience.)
Do want to see it simply to immerse myself in Sorkin's writing.

Yes, the theater was largely empty, the movie came out way too late, the R rating was unnecessary, and Fassbender doesn't look like Jobs.

And none of this mattered to me. This movie definitely captured Jobs' character. I'm 51 and have read about him through all of the magazine articles, books, and documentaries over the last 20 to 30 years to say I have a good enough background to spot the inaccuracies. The theatrical device of using backstage interactions that obviously never happened still tells the story beautifully and makes the movie go quicker than I wanted it to (and yet some called it a snoozefest. Did we see the same movie? To each his own!). The one complaint I agree with is that they could have titled it differently, like they did with the Social Network, to help underscore that this is a drama not a documentary. Regardless, Fassbender made me feel like I was watching Jobs in spite of the difference in appearance, which I forgot about half way through the film. The way he captured both the harsh and tender sides of the Jobs could not have been done better. Awesome, awesome movie.

I completely disagree. I have seen every Jobs interview, and everything he has done pretty much, like literally, all of them. And I thought it was a huge misrepresentation. Hated the movie and wadsn't a fan at all. It was just so off base. When Lorainne Paul Jobs mentioned that after seeing it and trying to stop it from being released because she didn't see the man in it at all that she knew, I knew exactly what she was talking about. Junk and opportunist. The movie sucked, terribly. You're completely wrong.

It was boring.

... and the completely fictional personal assistant.

Do you mean the character played by Winslett? That was Joanna Hoffman, original head of Macintosh marketing, and later a founder of General Magic. Not fictional the first two acts.

But my date almost fell asleep twice during Sorkin's dialogs. Very fictional, and not good fiction at that.

Something about Apple and "below expectations". Two things I thought I'd never read in the same sentence!

You get confused hen you hear the actors talking about this movie and the best script they have ever read, they really convince you. I guess thats what they do for a living...

The simple truth is, outside the Apple community, no one gives a bleep about Steve Jobs.

True, most people don't care to see a movie about a CEO / salesman. (Unless it's a comedy, or sexy Mad Men.)

Since the personal story was fudged, then the main attraction left for me would be seeing a good version of early computer history. But if that's been fudged too, then even that attraction falters.

I am not supporting anything Seth Rogan has anything to do with. If he would just keep his politics to himself and act, he might be in a better position. Glad the movie is suffering.
Ok I'll bite.

What are his 'politics' that offend you so much?

Big Silly. Steve is the guy who used to run a kind of different, but really great computer company. Since his death it has become a telephone ... company but some of the older Apple fans remember the computer era.

It was Steve Jobs that made Apple into that so-called "telephone" company. He even presided over the corporate name change, back when iPods were still "the thing".

He clearly saw the value of putting a pocketable Internet-connected touchscreen computer into peoples' hands -- better than anyone else in the industry. Calling the iPhone just a "telephone" belies its true power, and SJ would have been the first to tell you so.

Disclosure: I'm a huge Mac/OS X fan, including El Capitan.

Shame, it was a pretty good movie. I understand all the criticisms surrounding it, but it doesn't change my opinion that it was well-written and really well acted. The second act with Sculley/Jobs was great.

I would guess you and I have both read everything about him as well, not just watched the interviews with him. Assuming you did, then I'm sure we can agree that even those closest to him had wildly different opinions about him and will obviously have different opinions about the movie as well.

Lots of ignorant comments in here. You're probably ALL going to see this movie in the next year. Stop pretending like you know anything about Steve, his family, what Apple wants, or why this film was made.

Big yawn. I feel bad for the people who have made this film. I have a good amount of respect for their work. However, I doubt I am going to see this movie, either in theater or on DVD. I don't particularly like biopics, no matter if they portray the individual in a good or bad light. I think I've heard enough about Steve Jobs life that I can do without having to see this movie.

I actually have no interest in seeing this or any other movie made about Steve Jobs.

Honestly, I don't really care.

regurgitating old tired worn out memes is probably one of the most annoying things about the internet and people who use it.

Not near as annoying as people complaining about the memes ;)

On the contrary, at first Jobs was against third party apps, and made a point of publicly denying that it was a computer instead of a great phone.

Just a few days after introducing the iPhone, he was asked during an interview whether he thought the iPhone represented a trend toward the convergence of computing and communications.

I don’t want people to think of this as a computer,” he said. “I think of it as reinventing the phone.”

People forget that Jobs was quite often against things that he later changed his mind about, usually after his top execs struggled to convince him to reverse course. The fact that he could be made to change course, was something that helped him enormously.

I'm not sure accuracy has anything to do with it. I just don't think most people are interested in a film about Steve Jobs period. While there is some interest in die-hard fans like people on this site, there isn't much there to entice somebody to go see it in a movie theatre.

Since most of what he did is known and once we read the book, what else was there to make a movie about?
His private issues were his business.
I understand that celebrities are in the lime light and not everything reported about them is true.
Again, just not enough to make a movie.

Classic: Wait for it on cable movie , if that.
