Why would I want to support or even see a (reluctantly self-described) fictitious movie that pretends to be an authentic biopic to portray someone in a negative light. Cook nailed it on the head, "opportunistic"
Because then you would know first hand if it really is opportunistic and not have to trust other people's opinions.

People are going to hate me for saying this, but it's the truth. It tanked because it's rated R. This type of film should have the same target market as films like The Social Network. If they would have left out the F-bombs, it would have made more money this first weekend. Just sayin'....

Spot on. Leave out the F-bombs, drop the R-rating, and more people would see it.

My question is why do we have to keep rehashing the 1970-1999 Mac era? They have only made like 10 films about this time period. Why can't they make an Ashton Kutcher SJ follow up that focuses on the 1999 iMac launch and conclude with his death in 2011? I'd rather see that than another "remake" of the early days of Apple.

I think all the nerds blew their movie-going budget this week on pre-ordering the new Star Wars tickets, going to see a screening of Back To The Future II on Future Day, or in my case both.

This! A movie about the CEO handover that informs us about how he viewed his legacy and his concerns and that also included his relationship with I've and Cook... I would watch that in a heartbeat.
They probably took the daughter angle because most people can relate to that. Us Apple fans who have been following them for years realize where the real meat of the story is—but will that sell at the box office? Obviously this really didn't. It will be interesting to see if someone else takes a stab at it in the next 10 years.

Big Silly. Steve is the guy who used to run a kind of different, but really great computer company. Since his death it has become a telephone, wrist watch, ghetto headphone company but some of the older Apple fans remember the computer era.

Agree except that Steve made it into telephone company. He was the one that changed the corporate name from Apple Computer to Apple precisely because he saw the company had evolved into a consumer electronics company that sold more than computers. And it was Steve who famously said toward the end of his life, to paraphrase, that computers were like big trucks, and something that not everyone needed anymore.

The problem with the current Apple is that while Steve recognized trucks were useful to people, so make the ones you make great, Cook and company see them as mere commodities. Apple doesn't really make insanely great "trucks" anymore. And all the other products they've released post-Jobs have been for the most part insanely boring.

As a film I thought it was alright. I didn't walk out of the theater disappointed, mostly just indifferent. It wasn't nearly as good as Pirates of Silicon Valley was.

I knew it wasn't going to do well when there were only 3 people in the theater including myself.

I had no idea it has an R rating. That pretty much killed it.

I think MS is trying to make great "trucks". I got to play with a Surface Book. I like it a lot. I never buy a 1st gen product so I'll have to wait for the Book 2.

I guess the actual size of the true Apple fan nation can be found on MacRumors and that adds up to what 140 - 150 people max which is reflective at the Box office.

They missed the window a long time ago with all the delays and nonsense with this film. If this came out a couple years ago, it would have done much better. Each year that goes by from Jobs' passing, you lose ticket sales. I will see it (online) but the trailers I've seen, Steve can answer something YES/NO, and he goes off on this epic rant when all the other person needed was like Y/N. I haven't seen the movie yet, but from the trailers/clips I've seen, Sorkin writes to the myth and not the man.

I am not supporting anything Seth Rogan has anything to do with. If he would just keep his politics to himself and act, he might be in a better position. Glad the movie is suffering.

to each their own taste, it doesn't mean your taste is going be the best in the world now...unless the person is God?
Not all people are educated in a craft enough to identify certain attributes as well as others, and therefore, not everyone's tastes are as valuable as others.

My wife and I went Saturday night. She hated it because she didn't know what was going on in parts and didn't know who some of the characters were. I think Sorkin and Boyle made assumptions that everyone who watches the movie knows quite a bit about Steve Jobs and his career. Most people don't, so she was confused for much of the movie.

I didn't hate it, but I certainly don't think it was a good movie, mostly because I feel that they focused on some of the less interesting aspects of his life and career. Then, they threw in bits of dialogue that felt contrived. I get the feeling that they were trying to make an art piece. It just didn't work for me. Steve Jobs' life and career is very interesting, but that didn't come through in the film as much as it should have. I would have liked them to just tell a traditional story. The script practically writes itself! Fassbender did a good job pulling off the role and nailed a lot of Steve's character traits and eccentricities. I also thought Kate Winslet was very good, although her Polish accent was nonexistent in the first act. That was kind of strange.

It's long. It's poorly written. It's boring. The soundtrack drones on and on throughout the entire movie. It seemed like it was never going to end. And there were a total of four people in the theater on a Saturday night. That's not a good recipe for success. It's too bad. I had high hopes for this film.

All of this, of course, is my opinion. It might be a fantastic film that just didn't resonate with my wife or me.

It's not a bad movie, but the fact is there are not enough apple fanboys. And if you're not an apple fanboy, you don't care about this mostly, there are more interesting things to see out there. It's just a movie about the life of a tech visionary, a life which quite everybody -or at least everybody who knows who he was- knows more or less, not what you call amazing stuff.
