Thats really great for Apple employees... nice bonus!

"The first leg is the Mac business, which Steve addressed by saying that they have the "best Macs" in the new product pipeline ever right now"

Apple *ALWAYS* say this...!! They have to really, they can't say otherwise.. i.e., "we've got a few lame iMac updates coming up.. etc etc".

[sarcasm]
Yeah, now the question is: will we ever have the chance to see those "best Macs in the new product pipeline" one day? ;)
Now that iPhone is pretty much canned...
[/sarcasm]

but wait a minute, what's that about OS X on iPod...

Wait, now I'm confused... I interpreted this as All full time employees will get one, and part time who worked for apple over a year will get one. Is it actually full time AND part time WHO have worked 1 full year get one? In which case my friend who just started working there about 6 or 7 months ago gets the bum end of that stick...

- Eric

that is A LOT of iPhones.

so...

No

They got the shuffle models. I realize that is a huge price difference, but retail employees have not been left out in the past. Why should they? They are doing all the grunt work getting the phones out to the public.

Any full timer regardless of how long they have worked there

Any part timer who has worked there for a year or more

good deal, but....

and what about the part time retail specialists!
theyre the ones who have to sell them!

the ones who have been there less than a year i mean.
and im sure there will be very small discounts.

Seriously, if you are going to misquote Steve Ballmer, at least spell his name right. He never said it would not break even, in fact the actual quote was "$500, that's the most expensive phone in the world! [...] Now, it may sell very well"

in the interview, ballmer didntt know what to think or say ...... he has been dissed by Job's keynote, again!!

I think he was not serious about saying it is a bad idea or something, but he wanted to show that MS was apart Apple's move!

Yep, disappointed and unimpressed.... you sooooo called it there, sport.

Like when the Mac first came out, with arguably the most iconic product launch ever in the computer industry.... totally unimpressive.

And when each stunning iMac design came out (you know, the ones that won all those industrial design awards).... TOTALLY unimpressive.

And when the iPod came out, and the octocore MacPro, and the MacBook, and oh yeah, that humdrum little phone thing of theirs...... people are TOTALLY disappointed and unimpressed. I mean, nobody is even MENTIONING the iPhone in the press lately. Let's face it, there's no buzz whatsoever.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

They were talking about the computers that have been coming out in the last few years.

they are Apple's employees... arent they?

No, they're ... employees of one particular franchise location of an Apple Store.

Nice move. A friend of mine works there, he'll surely be pleased (unless he was already one of those who had one months ago). If you're out there.... Hi Clarus!

Edit: OK, so that's not how it works in the Apple world. Sorry guys.

You have no idea what you are talking about. People that work in Apple Stores owned by Apple are Apple employees and get all the rights and benefits.

I wonder if non-US employees will get one, at a later stage.

Hope not! (Serves the guys I know working there right for not spilling the beans on new releases!):p

If it's US-only, full time employees who've been working there for over a year that cuts the number down quite significantly.

since when did apple sell franchises?

They do NOT have Franchise stores. All are APPLE COMPANY OWNED...Not like AT&T

I guess this means :apple:apple is gonna release WiFi iPods? in which therew will be safari, mail, iCal?

I sure hope so! Been waiting for one of these puppies for a long time now.
I like the iPhone but no good here! Poor AT&T coverage and can't find any place within 50 miles of Erie, PA selling them. Not to mention that would be a very expesive Ipod as one would have a monthly bill just to use it here.

Fingers crossed I'll se an iPhonless Ipod soon!
:D

I wonder if they'll have any left over for the people who actually make them? Although seeing as how they live where they work and only a few hours to themselves every day they might not need a phone.

And seeing as how this arrangement is about 1500% better than living in a cardboard box under a bridge, or scavenging food from a garbage dump, which was their life PRIOR to getting this dream job, your point was?

Never mind. You suffer from rich, white guilt and as a result demand that everyone else pay to assuage your conscience.

Coverage for you might be an issue but I don't understand the montly bill part. The plans are actually cheaper than other Blackberry types. Yes more than just a cell phone bill but not much. I have used ATT (Cingular) for years in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York with hardly any problems at all!!!

Well doesn't one have to activate the iPhone in order to use any of it's functions and doesn't one have a minimum monthly bill they pay to keep the device activated. Pick even the smallest monthly plan, would you pay that just to be able to use your iPod? I don't think so, errr wellll would ya?--)))

Yes, we've heard that kind of rhetoric many times before, and people have been pretty much disappointed and unimpressed when new products have arrived.

All you naysayers. I know I'm looking forward to a new kick-ass iMac. So what if I have to switch to ATT and sign a 2 year contract to use it. :p

And iChat, and skype, and maybe a full SDK, and then a gazillion applications from independent developers. In short, an iPhone w/o the phone gets around any (if there are any???) restrictions that AT&T may have demanded of the iPhone.
