Thanks steve, for showing us how material things don't matter. How one should care for everything around him, and create amazing things in his life, instead of focussing on growth and money only. You were amazing. I'll miss you.

This is sad news! What a great visionary. You made a great impact and affected how we interact and think about technology, that will stay with us. Thank you Mr Steve Jobs and RIP.

I just saw the news on this...omg so sad. He was a grat visionary. I didn't have interest in apple product until the first iPod, then iPhone in 2007. I've been followed all the news of apple since then...damn it. RIP.

You brought us not only innovation but also inspiration.
You strengthened us not only by your success but also by your failure.
You showed us what it's like to live every day as the last day of our lives.

You will always be an example for generations to come. RIP.

Saddest day this millennium.

Sad sad day.
You will be missed more then any CEO of any company.
My condolences go out to his wife, family and friends.
You were a true visionary, who can surpass you.
Thank you for being such a great man.
R.I.P. Mr Steve Jobs

I was woken up at 05:30 by a family member on hear way to work to her Steve had passed. Its now almost two hours since that, I'm in bed reading the comments here and elsewhere and I'm still crying. Words can't describe how sad I am about these terrible news.

RIP and condolences to family.

Thanks Steve.

My first computer was an Apple ][. My dream job was to work at Apple, I got to work at Adobe, I've had opportunities to go to Cupertino for work and see you live at keynotes.

Without you I wouldn't have my career. Without you the world would still be beige.

Rest in peace my friend, you've earned it.

This. I could not have said it better. I have you to thank, Steve, for where I am now in a career I love.

"Siri, Steve Jobs was an amazing man, wasn't he?"

Siri: "Yes, Yes he was."

I doubt if there's another CEO in the world whose passing would sadden me so personally.

Saddened. Feel like I got punched in the stomach.

My heart sank. Rest in peace, Steve.

There's nothing else to say other than this man was an inspiration, an innovator, and a pioneer. Rest in peace Steve

I shed a few tears, knew this was imminent but still.. really depressed. RIP Steve

I really don't know what to say.

I never feel affected by the death of famous people - and it's not because I don't care, it's because they're so far removed from everyday, common life it's like they're merely products in and of themselves. Not so right now; Steve has had a profound impact on the way I use the internet, the way I connect with friends, the way I work, design, create, write, research, and entertain myself.

The world will be less for having lost his influence and passion, far too soon.

My family and I feel very fortunate to have lived in a time where we got to experience first hand his visionary genius and our lives have changed for the better because of him. Thank you Steve, and may you rest in peace.

Thank you all for the words I can't seem to find. I am at a loss.

Thank you Steve. You added to the joy in our lives. Made our work better. Made our fun better. Made our work fun. My thoughts are with your family. We all grieve, but none of our grief compares to theirs.

You will be missed. You will be remembered.

Apple's products have played such a constant role in my life. I blame Steve jobs for my obsession. Hes had such a major impact on our culture and will be remembered forever along with the great inventors and innovators of all time.

Sad day indeed. :(

For all we know, Steve has been up and at it all this time nothing stopping him. As healthy as someone who has been through what he has can be.

And then last night, after sending a text confirming plans to meet for 18 holes and lunch at the club, he kissed his family good night, climbed into bed, fell asleep and had an unexpected heart attack that no one saw coming.

And I disagree that Tim or Phil or anyone else looked horrible. They looked like themselves being themselves. Neither man is known for being big and loud and bouncing around making noise. You want that, go watch Steve Ballmer. You'll get more than you ever wanted.

Just to set the record straight.

Steve died peacefuly this afternoon while in bed suffering from cancer with his family surrounding him.

Please. This is not the time to argue. Respect that.

:)

Many visionaries and other great men never receive proper acknowledgement in their time, let alone reap the fruits of their own success.

Therefore, I take comfort in the fact that in his last year, Steve not only got to see the astounding success of the iPad, as well as Apple becoming the #1 smartphone vendor by volume – he also got to read headlines stating that Apple passed Exxon as the world's most valuable company, not to mention that Apple at one point this year was richer than the US Government.

He was an orphan who started his journey in a garage and ended it as king of the world. An inspiring story, reminding us to never walk in anyone's footsteps but to make your own path.

Steve was a truly visionary man - with uncompromising clarity and determination about how things should be done - and equal determination to make it so. His impact on the world of technology will be felt for many many years to come.

My condolences to Steve's family, as well as to his friends and colleagues at Apple.

RIP Steve.

Rip

He was a regular person just like the rest of us, except unlike most of us, he took that potential he had deep within himself and unleashed it and in doing so, he made the world even better. Thank you Steve for living life to your full capabilities and allowing us to reap the benefits of your beautiful mind.

RIP:apple:

Not to be 'that guy' but I wonder if this was considered likely on the 4th when they were pitching the iPhone 4s - several people seemed subdued and I can't help but wonder if news of his (Likely near) death arrived then.

In any case a great mind has passed. I wish him and his family peace.

Steve,

you understood that we didn't want to fiddle with plastic and glass toys. We wanted to show friends pictures, listen to music, learn about the world, call our family, create art. You made products that made connections between people grow. You made transparent devices that linked human beings.
